Vampire & Werewolf Infections: The Ugly Truth

So by now most folks know where & how to get infected. (If you do not, feel free to ask here, I do know RIFT is one zone for the Pact)
But the Ugly Truth is, people who are infected will charge you between 15-25k to infect you. Which is fine, if they so choose to do this, that is their choice.
But the problem here is, those exact same people who are charging you for the bite, will then form hunting packs & prevent others from trying to get infected, by killing the mob as fast as possible.
This results in maybe 1 person getting it, then that person turns around & does that same most likely. It's a vicious cycle. Before people come in here say oh you want to get infected & charge people too & kill mobs to bully & racketeer like the others.
Nope, If I could ever become a vampire, I would gladly infect others for free. Sadly, since they only spawn at night & only few times a week. It's become a hassle.
So what does everyone else think of this? Should they get banned? Should the mechanic become easier for those wishing to get infected, etc...

mechasauce✭✭I think its disgusting...exploiting a game feature, to make crazy amounts of money and subsequently destroy the games economy. Shouldn't be banned, but hunted and burned at the stake!
However, having said this..I don't really care for being bitten/infected...so my point is mute.5 -

If you give it a few more weeks there should be enough people infected with the curse to circumvent the effectiveness of the small groups trying to control the market. The behavior is definitely less than fair play, but I think its something that the devs will tread lightly upon in the hopes that players find a solution for themselves without developer intervention. They're probably just sitting back and playing the numbers game I'm referencing. Since the potential number of people able to infect other has the potential to double each week, it shouldn't take long for there to be enough people infected to create enough competition for selling bites to stabilize the market at a reasonable price for players who aren't able to get infected by rare spawns.

Commonpain✭✭✭Sad as it is, I dont think this will be changed by ZOS.
Whole Clans of Vamps / WW's have formed early during beta to do exactly this. But it wont take long for this to change by itself. As Every 7 Days more people get infected, the amount of people who are Vamp/WW will increase exponentially. Just wait for some more weeks and a bite will cost you some few K maximum. The people who do this? Organised people who know exactly how to make money. And if the Vamp/WW thing is gone, they will already have the next thing going on to lighten your wallets
Anyways, best shot for getting bitten is joining a nice guild, asking friends or relogging over and over again at new/full moon 0 -
I have to say, as someone who has no desire to become a vampire or a werewolf, that is *does* seem like there's an over-abundance of concern on this issue when I have seen free bites offered (not often, but I *have* seen it).
I have a feeling that one's perspective has a lot to do with this particular issue. It seems like a huge problem to people who lust after vampire/werewolf status because it's of very specific importance to them, but to the rest of us it just seems like the normal issues that we encounter with any rare mob... they're gonna be targeted for a plethora of reasons, not merely to thwart your ambitions.3 -
Yankee✭✭✭✭Best to just join a decent guild. By decent I mean one where guildies help each other out, including infecting you for free with a nasty curse if you like.

Katkon✭✭✭As someone else said - it's a temporary problem as (1) hunting packs won't create sustainable fun - they'll eventually get very bored, (2) Zenimax will likely do something about it if it continues - i.e. create random spawn locations, and (3) gold is irrelevant in this game; other than to buy a horse there's literally no need for it. sure, you need a bit to repair armor, but that's it. You can easily survive with $2-5K in your pocket indefinitely, if you craft. So building up massive bank balances of virtual currency gets these players literally nowhere in a hurry.2

Phadin✭✭It would be nice if free bites were offered, but a player can only offer a bite once a week, and if more are holding back for large sums of money then are offering free ones, then that becomes the pervelent perception of the community. When I do get to become a werewolf, I'd definately offer free bites myself.... but i'm a slow player, only level 8-9 on my characters, so no where near that yet.0

Any interest I may have had in either was drowned away in the flood of blood and fur that's been plaguing the game since the first bite.
Gold and guild spam isn't even the true nuisance of /zone anymore. Now it's people spamming for bites.

Kyosji✭✭✭I do believe some of the GMs posted in the forums they are looking into this problem, as killing the mob you need just for the sake of you not getting it was against the EULA. I think one went in more detail in one of the postings about boss camping. Said that camping the boss for loot was perfectly legal, but camping it just for the sake of others not getting it being a jerk was against the rules. Chances are that in the near future you will see the people killing these mobs for the sake of you not killing them will probably get a warning and a suspension.0 -

Any how only the lazy people pay those 20k. Also it's supposed to be a rare skill line, not just available for every lazy ass who can come in specific time and get the bite.2

Hearts✭✭✭Talks have been going around some guilds (three that i know of) is that IF this is something some guild/guilds has organized then we would start giving away bites for free. Just to kill off the guilds who are trying to monetize on the bites.1 -

So what? If you are doing it with the intent of griefing someone one, it is still griefing. It'll be up to the DEVs/MODs to decide if it is griefing or not. All we can do is report them.mobs spawn, mobs are getting killed.
The fact that something is legal in a game does not necessarily mean it is impossible to exploit it to grief someone.

It'd be nice to become a werewolf or a vampire, i might stick to one character if that was to happen. However it won't with the amount of people that keep killing the mobs as soon as it spawns. I've also been in two guilds so far that has had 1 or 2 members scammed for bites, first guild was someone scammed out of 15k for a vamp bite and the second guild was a fella who got scammed out of 30k for a wolf bite. Plus asking someone to bite you for free is like asking them to cut their wiener off, they look at you, laugh, then laugh some more.
Tip; Unless you have a very trustworthy friend, don't waste you time. It's a 95% chance that you'll get scammed. I've come to the conclusion that i won't be able to become one until i manage to do it myself without any help.Edited by itsXthomasTAG on April 14, 2014 5:38PM3 -

✭Buying bites is the cost of convenience - fixing the market however is a seriously d-bag thing to do. But that's what happens when you have kids that weren't properly raised and had negative behavior enforced with the playing of sports where no score was kept and the winning of participation trophies.
It skews one's view on sportsmanship.
But then again there's gonna be *** everywhere so, just be wary - find people that aren't knuckleheads and gravitate towards them.

✭Also, your first mistake is joining a guild that CHARGES you for a bite - there are plenty out there that'll give them for free once you proved you're not gonna get infected then bail.
There's jerks at both ends of the spectrum - selfish *** that want want want now now now and don't care who they have to screw over to get it and the one's with the supply that wanna get something and give nothing

Selling the bites is 100% legit. If people are willing to pay, then why wouldn't people be willing to sell? They only get 1 bite per week and it took them time to get to that point (level 7 vamp) as well as a skill point.
Besides, I'd actually rather see Vampire and Werewolf remain relatively rare, instead of everyone being one or the other.2 -
I'd rather not become infected, my armor is made of silver and I wear garlic around my neck, armed with a pistol full of silver rounds and a bunch of wooden stakes. I'm up for hunting them!1

I'm torn on the killing the mobs issue. Part of me says it's griefing, and part of me says it's just another mob, and we shouldn't be cracking down on players killing mobs. I mean, if these people really want to waste their time in-game camping a mob and killing it so others can't get Vampirism or Lycanthropy, then that's really their prerogative.
I think more research should be made into how some players are affording the bites so early on.
