Disconnect - Messaging Rate Limit Exceeded?

I was wondering if ZOS is going to pass the buck on this, I had it happen a few times myself with just running around and noticed the landscape was empty and no people spawned so I figured it was either my ISP, or ZOS having issues with lag.

Good to hear, and yes competitive games are also unplayable at times for me due to unreliable connection. I do agree that this needs to be looked into. One question though, how are you so sure theres no risk?

To rephrase myself. Im worried that the excessive disconnects and messaging rate limits exceeding error 318's that I will be flagged as a gold spammer or something and get banned. This is why ive gone to such lengths to get this out there and see if it can be looked into.

Im not sure if they ban a bunch of people for exceeding limits or if they actually would investigate the cause. Thats what I dont know, thus causing me to worry.

I too use to get kicked out with the same error message. After like the 10th time I set about to troubleshoot what the heck was going on and focused on what the error message was saying.

It is essentially saying you are typing too much. We'll I wasn't typing anything but I was using my Logitech gaming mouse extra buttons to replicate keyboard presses, specifically I use a mouse key for sprinting. So I opened my Logitech gaming software and reviewed the keyboard shortcut macro I made and noticed that it had defaulted to repeating the key press every 25ms when the button was held down.

Well Duuhhhh! I changed it to not repeat while being pressed and I have not had a single instance of being kicked since. So, check any mouse or keyboard macro shortcuts you use and ensure they are not set to repeat every couple of milliseconds when pressed.

You won't be banned because there's nothing malicious or suspicious about your activities.

Also, gold spammers would never be banned for this reason. As I said earlier, it's not referring to chat messages at all. In fact, gold spammers actually send very few packets to the server, because they just sit in one location and occasionally jump up and down to prevent being kicked for AFK. :p

The kick is nothing more than the server protecting itself from a pseudo DDOS-style crash. It's an automated response that a lot of systems have. In fact, when functioning properly, the kick is actually beneficial because it will prevent the game from going haywire under unexpected circumstances (for instance, if you fall off the map grid and reach the absolute limit of the game's architecture).

I would guess that you are getting a lag spike and your input commands are being put into a queue. Then when the connection stabilizes said queue unloads without a delay between commands, and ZoS' servers say "WOAH THERE" and force you to relog.

Also, maybe your modifier keys (CTRL, etc) are being spammed as input when holding them down.

More than one guild leader has been banned for mailing his members, many others report being banned when not even chatting.

So many broken subsystems in this game, ZOS have failed totally to deal with RMT anf bots yet have managed to ban many legit players.
That's what happens when you don't hire real people to deal with real people, but let game decisions be made by poorly programmed bots. Governing by keyword...

You sir/madam are my hero. <3
It MUST be the same issue, only that I'm using the mouse software and there are no obvious settings for key press repeats like the keyboard one has.
I'm sure there are ways to change it though. Just need to find it...

    To Google!

Unfortunately this didn't work. I am still getting kicked for pressing my push to talk mouse key while sprinting on my mount.

Just to be clear, since you indicate above I modified my keyboard software. It was my mouse button causing me to get disconnected. I use the Logitech mouse software to turn one of my mouse buttons into a keyboard press (shift in this case for sprinting) that was set to repeat every 25ms when held down.

    That is what I fixed.

I have exactly this issue for the last few days post -Craglorn patch. I use no addons and no macros and I have a fairly good ISP connection otherwise.

What happens , is every time I enter combat ( worse when I am with groups in dungeons) I experience severe lag/latency and then I get dropped from the server with the pop-up '' you have exceeded your message rate limit''.
Today the game was unplayable because of that reason , I could not fight at all , either at Cyrodiil or at Craglorn ( open world or dungeons, made no difference).
I have observed that holding the key that I have assigned for ''block'' and moving at the same time made the situation worse ( the likelihood that I will disconnect , the lag was bad regardless) .....
