Almost all ranged CCs used to be 22m max way back in the day - it worked fine, and people will quickly adapt again.

No it didn't work fine, people (unless melee) did not use those abilities. It's always been 28m range cc only abilities. And the consistency in combat rotation means everything. Having some abilities 28m vs 22m will cause you to miss kills, mess up rotations, etc. It's bad design and the change to 28m for scatter shot should not be reverted.
Should be even shorter. The skill is designed to knock away a melee enemy and create a gap. One morph even knock you back to create an even bigger distance.
Now it is just a skill mostly used by *** tier players. CC from behind the zerg, cloak/run when attacked and shoot again safely from behind the zerg.

flame reach/clench in live both have knockbacks and ccs. 22 m for the skills are fine
the issue is that you can use scatter shot efficiently once per 5sec because of the CC immunity it offers to your target while gapclosers have no cooldown.
=> the gap you try to create is more about buying 1s out of 5 than anything else.
they reallyy should keep those ranged CC 28m range like all other ranged skill so that you can combo properly.
we also need all melee skill to be either 5/6 or 7 m to be consistent. right now range are so messy: executionner have 5m range, light attacks have 6m range, i suspect heavy attacks to have a 7m range, and finally onslaught has 7m range.
this is bad for weaving and reliably landing skills.

The skill is just there to be tactically smart and is ruining the chance for Heavy Armor builds spamming Forward Momentum and some 2-H skill over and over.
A smart play style that is very effective against Toxic Heavy Armor 2-H spammer builds (mostly) used by trash players.
