Blackrose DW is totally fine though. Nothing to see there. Completely balanced. One might even say irrelevant. Move on people.
Unbalanced. Please rework.
(less uptime or minor protec,...)
So youll get a set that reduces incoming damage by 15% at the cost of reducing incoming healing by 15%. At this point, you might as well save yourself the trouble and not wear anything.

Love this. Can't beat them? Try to guilt them into wearing something else, then you will be able to beat them.
But remember, it is THEY that lack skill, not you!

Yeah minor protection with a 100% uptime sounds better. So no minor defile as well because the change to a minor buff from major. A bit like slimecraw is right now, but a defensive version instead. So youll get a set that reduces incoming damage by 15% at the cost of reducing incoming healing by 15%. At this point, you might as well save yourself the trouble and not wear anything.
Of course you would remove the defile portion when changing the protection buff from major to minor.

That moment where it takes you 200% longer to kill someone who is completely flailing and doesnt know what to do because of a broken 2 piece set. It's a carry set. No better than any of the proc sets people historically love to whine about

Lets neft it for convenience of cp players.
If you're a magbuild with pirate skeleton + blackrose resto in a no-cp environment, you're basically roleplaying cp levels of survivability.
Pirate Skeleton (and blackrose resto) needs to be gutted completely.

Yes, I wear it on several builds on live because it provides significant damage reduction at a minimal cost.
This would warrant a discussion on the value of effective HP, which considers things like mitigation and damage reduction both through debuffs against the enemy and buffs on yourself. Without boring everyone, it can be sufficient to say that reducing damage by this much is far outvaluing the incoming healing you deprive yourself.Massacre_Wurm wrote: »Sure. This is a good point. Blackrose DW and a few other items (Steadfast, etc.) are also likely warranting review.
Blackrose is interesting, because compared to pirate skeleton:
- Still allows you to run a 2/5/5 setup, with Blackrose DW on one bar
- Can have 100% uptime, compared to other sets
- Have no "downside" i.e. minor defile
- Does require the use of a skill

Temporal is awesome of course. The change to minor would open up the other morph. Not to mention you would have the protection on both bars while wearing it. Then there's templar, but it would still be a good set on templars that do not slot aedric spear abilities (as healer). Change to ransack would also mean minor would not be good to pair with it. Anyway how many people will slot ransack in pvp? Surely there are other options for those people. Even with 100% uptime on minor protection I could see myself slotting pirate skeleton.

I understand that some players who enjoy fighting outnumbered view this set as a godsend, but they should realize that the reason they view it as such a strong option is because it is overperforming. There needs to be suitable counterplay to this set, and a 3 second window that can be hidden by certain disguises and a polymorph is not nearly enough.
Nothing is more frustrating then running full damage and coming across players that can mitigate anywhere between 30%-50%+ of your damage all the time just by running a 2pc set and using skills they'd normally use on their respective classes. The same concept goes for the straight tanking or healing oriented players in PvP - they become unkillable while not actually having the skill level to support being unkillable - just by wearing defensive sets and having 810 CP. Pirate skeleton does the same thing but for almost ANY setup.
I agree, the set is really strong. The only reason I like it is because it helps defend against all the other really strong things that I have to deal with as a solo/smallscale player than most players seem to be fine with. 20k zaans that go through walls, trees, ceilings and block, 10k assassins wills, 6-8k frag spams ect. These things are fine in 1v1 or large group play but really become op in xv1/outnumbered since speed was gutted. I would prefer if pvp had more counterplay rather than just using things like pirate, but that's not the case unfortunately, and it doesn't help that everyone moves so slow being forced to facetank and performance is always bad, making timing defense pointless most of the time.
I can't help but notice that all of the classes in your signature have access to great mobility and/or cloak. In other words, solid survivability options without being forced to rely on facetanking damage.

Sure they are, cause they are rocking a set that gives you mitigation worth of 20k resistances and it has 80% uptime with a poor excuse of a debuff that can be ignored easily and that's a 2 piece set. Yeah it's balanced cause it makes people who defend it not die in 2 seconds. *eyeroll*

I mean the uptime of pirateskelli is way too high being that it´s only a 2piece set .... look at steadfast for example in comparison, way lower uptime .... everyone and their mom runs pirateskelli, that just gives you an idea how strong, almost broken it is..

DISCLAIMER: I currently wear this set on different builds
It is clear from the numerous threads, in game discussions, and prevalence of this set, that this set deserves a review.
Having not been mentioned in these patch notes, it would be helpful to see a response from the developers about their opinions of this set. Maybe they will say that it is performing as they are hoping, maybe they just say they're looking at it internally and are/aren't going to change it.
A simple response that they have seen the many, many discussions would be greatly appreciated.
Please feel free to express your opinions and/or support for the review of this set.
Thank you!

The way people choose their builds (skill levels aside) is by looking at what the expected amount of damage will be that most people are putting out, and by looking at the expected amount of damage you will need to kill most people. This creates some sort of a baseline on which you choose your sets, enchants, etc. so that your build will be suited to perform against most people out there. Then you have sets like pirate skeleton, which makes people insanely tanky with high uptime, while they are still able to put out very high damage because this 2 pc set covers almost their entire defensive needs. Can you not see where this causes friction? It forces you to spec more offensively in order to take them down, but in turn you open yourself up to being bursted down as result of a lack of mitigation. The only solution would be either add more defense and struggle to kill a lot of people, or simply don't give a damn and slot pirate skeleton yourself.
The set itself is fine in a sense, the one thing that makes it OP is the uptime being way too high.
Aaah I'm already looking forward to your response

ZoS makes all this high damage crap, then people complain when they also give players a way to mitigate the damage.
10/10 will whine about anything.
