Cleave is a common MMO term for incidental AoE damage during single target damage rotation.

Honestly never heard it referred to as such before, only ever heard splash.

It was a common term in WoW for the longest time. I'm pretty sure it was stemming from the warrior's Cleave ability, where it did damage to your target and two next to it.
