Psijic quest line design is an abomination

It's quite interesting to see that the scope for the Psijic quest line wasn't "How can we create a fun and in-depth quest line" but rather "Let's create a superficial quest line based on running around in Tamriel closing portals/collecting items - and once a player thinks he's done running around he has to run another round".

I despise such "works", because I reckon their creators wouldn't find it fun themselves, having to run around chasing portals/items as the only activity during the quest line.

It's designed to make you hate it. Because soon they will release crown store guild skill line upgrades and if you didn't hate it, you wouldn't buy the upgrade.

I'd rather do the Annual Psijic Order Scavenger Hunt than run mind-numbing circles around the Alikr Dolmens or run around looking for glowing overdue books.

It's not as bad as the Mages/Fighters/Undaunted grind, to be honest. You get the chance to take a moment and explore the surroundings a bit more than usual. But since some people are only about rushing in this game, I can see how that would be a pain.

What *** me off is the excuse they give you that they cannot help, is they are too powerful, their presence will affect blah blah blah

Powerful my a**, what the whole psijic order story and Summerset story show me is how stupid and incompetent they are.

It does force a new character to unlock the entire map which you will be thankful for when there is an event.
I have done it so many time now I don't even have to look up a location map on google. lol

mages guild is the worst... i do like dolmen tough cause they require so little attention span that you van do them while watching movies / tvshows.... would be nice tough if you got an xp bonus for every char after the first

    Agreed.

At least when Gandalf pulled the "I'm the super powerful wizard walking away from this portion of the quest" schtick on Thorin & Company, he legitimately had something else equally important to do.

The Psijic Order ought to hire me as their janitor, because I'm just cleaning up their messes.

Every time I start a new character who needs this skill line, I think “Good thing I have houses in most of the zones. Gonna unlock a lot of wayshrines, skyshards, and lore books while I’m at it.”

Mages is the exact same thing. You go around collecting lorebooks instead of breaches. The only difference is that mages guild allows you to do it in your own way deciding which areas to clear ( choose books near wayshrines for instance). And completing a specific collection of books gives you extra points. Plus you don't have to go to Artaeum every 5 minutes to advance the quest. The only thing psijic does better is the Augur commentary. I would love a Sheogorath or Stibbons comment everytime I pick a lorebook.

The Auger is definitely my favorite part of this quest line. Meatbrains indeed...

I mean its bearable the first 3-5 times depending of how patient of a person you are but after that it gets kinda repetetive.

I think if they’d brought a Psijic skill like unlock to the Crown Store I’d instantly buy it. It’s by far the worst grind in this game, I find even the Mage‘s Guild more fun as it happens quite naturally whereas Psijik doesn‘t.

It really is an awful questline. I think I am around half-way through it and at that point I lost the will to even play ESO itself - it's THAT bad. I might get around to playing again in a few months.

If the goal is to find ways to ensure the paying customer continues to use the product, ie- players need to keep playing the game, then the Psijic quest line is perfect.

Is it mundane and annoying? Of course, but it accomplishes it’s goal by ensuring you, the player, must spend hours playing the game.

Devs really are “killing it” because they understand how to keep their customers engaged in their product.

Fighter guild is easiest skill line to level. I always max my FG before reaching level 50.

It's bad but damn guys it's not as bad as all that! Took me about 3 hours x 2 days to go through the whole thing. I've done way worse grinds for far less in other games. And I would have done it just for the reward anyway!

It's only bad if you have a slow mount and/or minimal wayshrines discovered. Otherwise, it literally takes 3-4 hours.

Why do so many people complain about this?

No question about it, it is boring. I used to think mages guild (lorebook hunting on console) was the worst but I joined the PC Master race and its a breeze now. B)

Psijic skills are BiS for many builds, both PVP and PVE, this quest line has sole purpose to push you to non-dlc zones so they will be more populated.

That's my general take on it. It's an opportunity for more storytelling for my characters, and I'm not the sort of player who rushes through anything in this game anyway. I definitely find Mages/Fighters/Undaunted worse because there is simply little in the way of storytelling opportunities built into it. Consequently, I don't bother ranking them up at all on my characters and if they level at all it is incidental rather than deliberate.

The way they did Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood was best, I think. My only gripe with Psijic Order is that it wasn't more like those quest lines. There was a central story but you also had to take some intermissions and work up your skills in order to progress in it. That made more sense to me.

I just wish you could start guild quest and have all the time breaches added to map immediately. Then you could close them while you progress through the game and zones as you see fit. The highly linear and batched approach to this guild quest feels out of place in One Tamriel.

Thats actually a good idea, though it would take a lot of reworking of the current quest/skill line. It would be nice to start the quest, and then when you have closed so many breaches throughout zones you rank up in the skill line. Sorta how Mages Guild does it...find so many books and you get the next rank.

Have to agree with those saying it's better then collecting books for the Mage's Guild, but Fighter's Guild is so easy. I have to say I don't understand why people grind the same 3 dolmens over and over. You get decent experience the first time you complete a dolmen, but after that it's nothing. Particularly if you have to split it with 67 other players.

Last weekend I leveled a character from 22 to 50 using a few 150% XP scrolls and doing every dolmen in Tamriel (45) just once. I was also doing group (world) bosses as I ran across them and discovering wayshines, points of interest, and doing the Psijic skill line while travelling across the zones to each dolmen. Took maybe 10 hours or so. Yes, I know there are faster ways to level, but this was, by comparison, non-repetitive, semi-interesting (seeing places I hadn't been in a while), and fairly painless.

Anyway, the Psijic skill line doesn't really bother me. It is a bit boring after the first time, but only takes 4 hours or so by itself, or adds maybe a couple hours if done while doing the dolmen run I described above. Not remotely as bad as Mage's Guild.

The Augur is insufferably unbearable. It's the sort if comedic relief that belongs in a frat boy B-movie from the 80's.

    Fortunately, he can be silenced.

I totally agree. Sometimes I wonder why do these people play this game after all. You see nothing, you hear nothing, you experience nothing. Waste of time, IMO.
