I dont understand how people can't see why this frustrates most of us.

I work, I have a kid, I get very few opportunities to play this game...Saturday night is one of the few nights I have the luxury to stay up late and play.

Just get it through your thick skulls no matter what the reason it is gonna annoy people and rightfully so.

That's fine and dandy, but have a little bit of compassion to the regular developers and IT folks who have to get paged out to respond on a Saturday night to fix an issue like this. Developers and operations engineers are people too, who need sleep and get frustrated when something they worked so hard to release have unexpected, inexplicable, critical problems like this.

Developers, sysadmins, and network engineers that are on call get paid to be on call. It is why they make what they do.

Source: My step-dad is a Cisco network engineer, who is constantly on call. He even had to work an emergency while he was on vacation in Mexico back in March. The reason for the vacation? They needed him to use some of his comp time, since he had several weeks' worth of comp time from previous emergency calls.

I woulda been just fine if they did the maint on monday morning.

Execpt you arent making the calls on when they do emergency maintenance. And should stop being arrogant. You arent special. You arent more important then the rest of us.

Expecting them to do maintenance when YOU arent able to log in versus them doing maintenance when the Server and the Community NEED it. You arent going to win that battle.

That is an assumption and is, in some circumstances, not the industry standard, particularly when you're not on call and you get called as a subject matter expert for a critical problem.

Even when you're on call, you're hoping for problems that can be easily fixed with either a quick server reboot or a database fix, not something that will keep you up from 11PM EST to 3AM EST on a Saturday night.

Source: Me - a platform operations engineer who has paid on call, but am often working nights and weekends when critical problems occur with our company software that results in an "All hands on deck" response.

I can confirm that on call reimbursement seldom covers the amount of man hours one might put in when on call.

I wouldn't have. Looks like it was game-breaking with problems that had no user workaround: login failures, progressively longer load times, bank slots and items missing, and players logging into the character screens of other players.

I dislike the usage of the word "maintenance" when referring to emergency issue resolution. Maintenance is planned; something like this is not.

There are plenty of things to do at midnight on a Saturday night lol... Sunday is the day most people sit around the house and play on the computer after being out all night Saturday...

Not in this household, which is representative of many in rural Illinois and most of the rural Midwest US. Sunday is the day we go to church and try and stay off the computer.

You've stated a few times in this thread that this issue was not game breaking for you, and you seem to be under the impression that everyone who did have these issues is either mistaken, confused, or what.. lying? Or do you mean to say that because you didn't experience these issues, it wasn't important that they be fixed for everyone else? Denying the validity of the statements of several people in this and other threads and then throwing church into the mix is in very poor taste. I didn't really have many problems, myself, as I was in AD newb island, but the lion's share of members in my very large guild had game-breaking lag. These were people from multiple time zones and continents, running every different spec. Raidcall was all full of loading zone sadness. I am glad that they took down the servers so that others could play after the fix, even though I didn't have issues. There's your sermon, feel free to skip church tomorrow so you can make up time in game.
