Do you believe that billionaires exist?

In the many, many auction house polls I keep bringing up something that I still have not gotten a legit answer to. My worry is that an ESO billionaire would buy almost every valuable item and resell them for a massive profit. Many people echo my worry and a few respond with “monsters in the closet” talk. Regardless, here is a very basic poll that could help hammer out the viability of any GAH poll. Simply put, do you believe that ESO billionaires exist?

I think most players have a few million gold stashed. Trade guild gold is constantly in flux, and I’ve yet to see a guild hall of a trade guild that isn’t decked out with millions worth of craft stations, test dummies, sometimes some really nice decorating if they still have the furniture space for it.

I’m sure somewhere a handful of people might have hit a billion, but only cuz I also know how easy it is to get millions through mostly casual play.

Edit: Since you’re talking about the ability to monopolize via gold. I can promise a few dozen millions is more than enough to monopolize a particular item. I only have a few mil banked and I could probably grab up every Hakeijo in a big hub.

Do I believe? No. There's an exceedingly easy way to prove it, too; Log onto NA or EU live server and open a trade menu with me. Then press R so I know it's not a visual bug.

I know of at least one person for sure on PCNA although I suspect he isn't the only one. I know quite a few people in the hundreds of millions.

Regardless of the wealth of people in ESO an auction house is a terrible idea. The servers can't even handle searches now. Plus, trading and trade guilds are a huge active part of the game. The day an auction house exists, I would quit playing. I would however be in favor of some of the tools that pc has via addons being added to the game

A billion is a duck ton (read with an F) of money. I don't think anyone can actually accrue that much. And at that point, why not just buy every motif, every recipe, everything, give new people 10k for a mount or just redistribute all that excessive virtual currency?

I'm not a billionaire, but I'm sure there are some that exist. To reinforce your point though, if an AH was introduced tomorrow, I'd buy every Cornflower posted and stand there all day long and buy all the new ones posted and repost for 5000 gold each just to hear the chorus of cries from players that complain about the prices currently.

I am sure for someone it is their whole purpose in this game to collect gold and it isn't that far fetched.

If I can amass millions of gold without ever seriously trying (no writs on 20+ characters, minimal flipping) I can easily see how some people have 100s of millions and even billions of gold.

You sound just like Bernie Sanders. Some people equate endgame with amassing wealth (just like real life)

There is no point to having 43 different mounts.

There is no point to having every motif - even the sucky ones

There is no point in having inventory issues when 99% of the stuff you keep is garbage

There is no point in stopping for harvestables when you already have more than you could EVER use

Yes there is no point in having billions - but it's simply what gives some people enjoyment and that's what it's all about.

The answer of "other" or idc were not available so I did not vote. Especially since this is all due to a hypothetical that does not require being a billionaire. Fortunately we do not have a GAH that would make it easier to manipulate the market.

I really do not see the point of this as Zos should not do anything about it. The people with sums of gold have merely been active and smart about matters that bring them gold and help them keep it.

I know this because I used to be silly about my gold and spent it on shiny objects I wasted it. As soon as I ceased wasting it I started gaining it hand over fist. Funny how that works just like real life.

Zos cannot do anything about this because they know if they punish show smart about their gold they will lose active paying players. We will just give Zos a friendly, but very specific salute as we go out the door. After all, we are among the most active players which is why we have all that gold

There are billionaires in ESO, and I have met them. I'm not sure any have a billion gold sitting in one inventory, but I know that with all their hundreds of millions, they can easily hit the one billion mark. Just look at the top trading guilds, see how much money they have stashed in their guild banks. It's... a lot.

Frankly I'm not bothered whether there are gold billionaires or not, it means nothing as they wouldn't have anything to spend their gold on beyond a few million anyway, and the relevance of it to the case for or against an alternative trading system is questionable.

Its only possible relevance is if defenders of the present system believe that it is a massive gold sink and it should turn out that most of the gold concerned isn't actually disappearing out of the game (which is the sole purpose of a gold sink) but is simply transferring from multiple player bank accounts into a very few player bank accounts. That would put in question both the effectiveness of the gold sink as well as the veracity of the claim often made that the game has a vibrant economy.
