I think most of that is people being stuck with a crappy internet service provider due to a tendency for those providers monopolizing their local areas.

Do people actually have these conversations? I highly doubt it....most gamers I know check out things for themselves especially if they own a copy of the game.
There is so much BS on forums these days, everyone has their pet agenda, they get mad a developer for X and all of a sudden there are these in depth talks with others like it was a climate change debate or something.
Gamers just aren't that serious.
