Awfully quiet on the forums about Necro, how is the class?

How does it perform as a magic build in PvE?

Everyone is busy throwing skulls at dragons.

So far that's all the class does.

I mean play it your way, but you can actually put six abilities on each bar. Just sayin.

There are still bugs to be worked out for sure.

The fluidity of weave takes a bit of getting used to for magicka users. Having your staff disappear is a bit odd when weaving with burning skull.

The summons are neat, blastbones needs to be fixed though. Hitting well under what it should be doing compared to PTS.

The class as a whole takes a bit of getting used to. The corpse mechanic specifically. Some abilities seem to fire better when aiming "in the general direction" of a corpse, some you have to honestly hover over for it to work. So i think there is some cleaning up to do yet.

One man's perspective, but overall it is fun. Lots of necromancer saturation right now though. :)

Running 3 harmony pieces with the self synergy is hilarious. Kind of a one-and-done skill, but it is still so much fun to fear 7 mobs into a tiny circle and watch them all drop at the same time. :)

Seriously. The Dolmen grind in Alik'r looks like the biggest zerg train you have ever seen. The minute anything spawns, they just get pelted with 30 skulls and maybe a scythe or 3.

you should never value the advice of anyone who says they know what necro plays like within 24 hours of its release. Very, very often in video games when new content drops people have final verdicts on things before they even launch, and then a month later everyone finally figures out how it REALLY works and it becomes the total opposite of what the original idea was.

That being said, here's some of my first impressions.

    1) Blastbones is weaker than it was on PTS, which is disappointing as it's a fun skill to use.

    2) Skulls is hard to weave, good luck with that dps mains.

    3) Graveyard is tiny, but cool.

    4) Atro ult is badass af. Love it. Lots of damage, too.

    5) Resurrection isn't nearly as useful as you'd think, yet. In overworld people just resurrect themselves, and in normal dungeons people don't really die. We'll see how that holds up in vet content though, as i'm only level 22.

    6) One thing I miss about old class design is that you have strong reason to level every skill tree, because every skill tree has a skill or 3 you need to use. Necro (and warden) feel like all you need the other 2 off-your-role trees for is the passives, none of the active skills are of any interest to you. just my opinion tho.

    7) Grave lord is my favorite tree by far. Each skill is very fun to use.

    Final Verdict:

Very fun aesthetic, cool sound and visual design. Will take a LOT of getting used to, especially with weaving tough skills and the corpse mechanic (which isn't as stressful as people make it sound in my experience). People who grind to 50 and then start experimenting are probably doing it wrong, but again i'd wait for a month or two to get an actual final verdict. One thing for sure though is that it's fresh and fun to play. Also, apparently tanking IS good, no experience required, because of some of the skills including minor vulnerability and 30k hp. So that seems promising so far.

It's a longish grind from skulls to boneyard for mag, and an even longer grind to Skeletal Archer for stamina. Blastbones are super fun but very marginal since they are hitting for less than skills with lower tooltips than they have.
Trying not to burn myself out by grinding the levels out hard and then hard grinding Psijic, Mage's Guild, and Caltrops.

Love love love how the animations feel to weave. Perhaps the single best part of the class so far. Just feels like... nothing's happening at all. It feels seamless by which I mean never get the feeling of a stuttery feeling weave.

Why a week? Hit up the Alikir Desert or if you prefer a more productive grind, use random dungeons to gain Undaunted, levels, skill points, and leveled blue/purple gear drops to keep you going as you hit lv50. If you're rich, you can use master writs to power level a new alt character in less than a hour if you power level its Alchemy and Enchanting.

Got up to lvl 31 yesterday. Im really enjoying it a lot. I have mained a StamDK since 2014 and have really enjoyed tanking over dps or heals. The necromancer I think will be really fun to tank with and skills are pretty neat. Can't wait to see the potential at cp lvl.

Maybe @SydneyGrey likes to take their time leveling and isn't in a huge rush to get to 50... maybe they are working and don't have time to level right now. What i think is funniest is that you have advice for the person who has 10 stars on the forums, I'm pretty dang sure they know how to play and know how to level. Just sayin that *** made me lol :D

It was stealth nerfed from PTS to live. Just like Warden. Stam in pvp is terrible but in pve its godly. Mag is great in pve and pvp.

Stars on a forum means nothing. Plenty of people here spend more time on the forums than the game itself, which is an entirely different issue, but my point still stands. My comment wasn't necessarily directed at the OP either since anyone could read it and think it takes a week when the reality is that it doesn't unless you choose to do it that way. I also never said a week's length was poor, either. Stop making an issue out of nothing; no one is being attacked here.

What can you learn about a character or a class or skills or morphs or passives or gear doing a dolmen zerg? You have no way to evaluate anything you do beyond able to follow a zerg.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

As a vet I don't find the slow, tedious combat of sub-level 50 worthwhile. I'd rather learn with fully morphed skills and proper gear to switch around and find what works for me at that point. Think of it this way: I'd rather have the full toolbox available to me to find the right tools for the job rather than try for hours to screw in a bolt with a hammer because it's the only tool I got.

Once again, I agree with Nestor, but we’re both grumpy old men.

I’m taking my time to really learn the flow of the abilities instead of racing to 50 then trying to figure out how they work in a rotation.

Or, you learn to use a skill to it's best advantage if you have no other choices to swap to when the going gets a little tough

Or maybe just, you know, actually play the game, quest, explore, and level as you go, and thus, yeah, come back in a week. Or two. Or more.

    Why rush, anyway ?
