As if there haven't been significant changes between the SP TES games...

This is playing as an actual elder scrolls game, because it IS an actual elder scrolls game.

it IS an actual elder scrolls game. it has the elder scrolls name, brand, setting, etc.

don't try and pretend this isn't an elder scrolls game.

It’s an elder scrolls game, like legends and blades are actual elder scrolls games I guess.

The events and storyline of ESO are as canon as any TES installation.

Like I said, the same as Elder Scrolls Blades and Elder Scrolls Legends.

But there are Elder Scrolls games that take place in the same universe like ESO, Blades, and Legends. And what people consider the "real" ES games, that being the single player open world games.

Personally, I think games like ESO, Blades and Legends play a bit fast and loose with the lore. Which the more standard single player versions did not.
For example; I am sure Disney COULD have the Marvel and Star Wars universes cross over and deem it to be canon, but most people who are fans of those franchises would just role their eyes and shrug. And pretend it never happened.
The latest race changes show just how far a field of the lore they are willing to go with giving Bosmer and Argonians the wrong resistances. And making Bosmer's unstealthy. It would be not that hard to make the game lore friendly, it's just not that high a priority with Zos. While with Bethesda they place a greater stake on that. And that is the real "If this were to play as an actual Elder Scrolls game..." difference.

Yes, the "events and storyline of ESO are as canon", but it's a canon that will hopefully not be brought up to much in the standard single player open world games too much. And since there is a huge time jump between ESO and the time of Skyrim the likeliness of that happening is very slim.

I fully appreciate what you're trying to say, but regarding the bold...

That is the problem of those fans to deal with. If Disney owns both properties and elects to merge them, the merger is canon. Anyone is free not to like it, every individual has that right, but not liking something doesn't alter reality.

    Fun fact:

Most players who want to teach us what a "real" Elder Scrolls game is have never played Arena, Daggerfall, or Redguard.

So, cause they may not have played them means what exactly? They haven't played a real TES game? So, what makes a TES game real or not? Or just a bloated opinion cause you played TES longer than some people?

I played Arena, i was maybe 12 when it came out. Loved it. Played Daggerfall, Hated it. Skipped the rest till Oblivion came out, cause it looked great, was hooked again, and believed it to be one of the better TES games and was hooked back in.

Staves don't shoot magic in Elder Scrolls games unless they have an enchantment on them to cast a spell, in which case they have charges. This is basically what we have with the glyph system now.

every staff that the player picks up in Oblivion and Skyrim shoots magic, pre-oblivion staves did not also in eso staves shoot magic without the need for glyphs.

Elder Scrolls lore is debatable. For example, it is objective truth that events happen in the lore. The interpretations of various authors' historical accounts suggest that canon can be more nebulous than ironclad.

By that, I'm stating that in my 'head canon', ESO is going to be interpreted/misinterpreted in the coming era's timeline. My main is a Dunmer DK, and is the ancestor of my nerevarine in Elder Scrolls III. The opportunity to do this is priceless, at least to me.

In Skyrim and Oblivion staves didn't shoot magic, they stored magical spells which used charges to cast.

If this were to play as an actual Elder Scrolls game:

All weapons would be stamina based. Staves would not shoot magic, they would be sticks. Glyphs on them would allow ranged magic attacks until they ran out of power.
All class skills would be magika based. There would be no stamina morphs. Class skills are spells. Most characters would use both stamina and magika unless they chose not to use any magic.
Your champion points would allow specialization into magic or fighting or sneaking or a mix of all of them, but not equal expenditures into each of the three constellations. You would choose specific skills or spell damage types to improve. For example, you would need to improve elemental damage types to cause status effects with those types.
Vampires and werewolves would be killed by guards as if they always had a bounty, but guards would be killable, if very hard to kill. They would also respawn instantly back at their spawn point instead of staying dead because it's an MMO and not a single player game.

And you wouldn't be able to kill any other player and t-bag them because you will alone the entire time... What's the point in that?
