Why does it take longer and longer to research as you learn more traits?

If anything it should be the opposite. The first time you do anything it should take you the longest. Then each subsequent time it should take less time as you learn more and get better at it.

    yeah i guess. So does it just double after every trait? I guess it's not a super big deal since most people probably only want 3 or 4 traits.

    They want you to have priorities. Research first the traits that you think that are the most important. Also, to make you invest your time on crafting before being able to craft certain special sets.
    Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

    Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
    Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
    Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
    Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
    Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
    Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
    Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
    Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
    Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
    Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

    The research traits are completely broken. It takes 6 hours to research one skill from an item without the skill. After you get the one research skill it takes 12 hours for 1st item and 24 hours for the 2nd item. This is just terrible math. I wish I never spent a skill point on it but I don't want to put out gold to undo a skill that is supposed to help me. Please fix this!

    AFAIK, you need to have researched at least so and so many traits on a specific piece to be able to create a set item out of it. So it actually DOES make sense that it takes longer and longer for more indepth research, as it'll enable you to create better things later on.

    Think of it as a skilled crafter having to remember how to make different things. If a woodsmith only has to remember how to make a staff, he can make staffs every day. If a woodsmith has to remember how to make two different kinds of staffs, he'll probably be okay. If a woodsmith has to remember how to make ten different kinds of staffs, each with a separate design that conveys a separate effect, he may have to write it all down and read over it each time he wants to make something. So, the more styles he knows, the longer it takes him to learn newer ones.

    It makes sense to me.

    I personally don't mind the research settings.

    I like the Research timers. I makes Crafters valuable and not junk dealers. It forces you to dedicate time and items into leveling your abilities. It also spreads out the economy because people will buy different trait items from different players.

    They want crafting to be viable end-game. Which means that the high-level, know-all-traits crafters have to be able to make gear that is equal or better than gear that you can get elsewhere.

    (Bit of a future problem there as they add content... folks are loot driven, not experience driven...)

    But they don't want those high end crafters to be dime a dozen OR easily attained. The time sink of researching is their gateway, as there are already crafters who have almost maxed out their crafting skills...

    To force people to specialize. People are more likely to generalize if it gets easier towards the end.

    The top down approach makes people commit to a specialty early one.

    if you bothered to put more than 1 point into it you would have noticed you can research up to 3 items at once, genius.

    Dunno , but im researching 2/2/2 24 hrs a day , yeah it will take a while , but im pretty sure i will have it all.

    If it is true you can do 3/3/3 later on , then it will be even faster.

    research tracker and research assistant are 2 addons i use to help me keep this under control , ty for the devs who made them :D.

    the last trait in each line takes 32 days without traits
    I think its fine and a longterm goal to research everything.

    I understand the reason why they did it. although your rational for it doesn't make sense. You really think after a carpenter learns how to make a chair, it's actually going to take him twice as long to learn how to make a 2nd chair? I don't really know of any profession where as you learn more things, it takes you longer and longer to learn how to just make a variation of the same thing you learned previously.

    Now if you wanted to put two traits on the same item, that i can see taking longer to learn since you are essentially making something new.

    But to make a staff with a single trait? It makes no sense that it would take you longer and longer to figure out each additional trait.

    Like i said, I understand for play-ability reasons why they did this. I just wish they could have implemented it in some way that fit in with the fantasy of the game, rather then something that's just blatantly there for balance reasons.
