dumbo✭Having 2 maintenance windows per week is weird, and I assume ZOS are planning to drop (or try to drop) the Friday window when they are happier with the servers.
In general, Friday patches are a terrible idea (anything goes wrong, and you have fewer staff on Sat/Sun to deal with it... calling in staff over the weekend then leads to unhappiness/burnout).1 -
Allumis✭✭✭To be fair, its after 10pm on a Friday evening. I always thought prime time on a Friday night was 7pm - 10pm? Or am I missing something?
Everyone has the option of jumping in on the EU server for a while too which will sate your need for ESO.
Other options assuming the downtime is 2 hours the same as EU just pop a DVD on and watch that, by its finished the server should be back up and ready to play
The long term solution would be a dedicated server for that side of the world which I don't see as being an issue, if their are enough people who play the game in that time zone then offering them a dedicated server would be the fair thing to do, however I have to ask whats the difference in miles from AUS >> USA EC in comparison to AUS >> Germany? I know that as the crow flys theirs not a massive difference in it, but how about as the cable lies?1 -
Junipus✭✭✭✭✭It's always 10pm somewhere, and Friday AM in the US allows them to roll out fixes etc and perform maintenance before the weekend load. It's just an unfortunate circumstance that until they invest in an Oceanic server (if they do) that somewhere will have to take the hit and currently it's Australia.
If it's any consolation, you get to play when most Americans are asleep and can retake any PvP objectives and hit PvE content without overpop bugs.The Legendary Nothing0 -
As an American that is stationed in Europe I hate the current maintenance schedule... They should either start around 2am or move the days to Monday/Thursday for those of us that want to play on a Friday after we get off work... Very disappointed.....0

I can't believe someone started this thread. This has given me a good laugh to start my day. These maintenance times have been put in place to inconvenience the least amount of people. The lesser of evils has been chosen, so get over it. I just can't describe how disappointed I am in you right now Zenimax. I would've thought you'd actually look after your customers and actually allow them to have a decent play session on a Friday night.
This NEEDS to be addressed and I can't see the oceanic population backing down on this one guy's. Seriously... Get it together before you lose a whole bunch of subscribers... Really pathetic...

The only reason the population is LOW for those areas is BECAUSE they know they get screwed all the time. There is a reason the population for WoW is huge in Asia because BLIZZARD ACTUALLY ACCOMODATES them....1 -

Sorry you feel victimized because they couldn't stop to consider every timezone they might have players in, that's life.

I think you have confused Australia with another country...
Australia is in the top 3 for Eco freedom, and is currently 12th overall... Iran is 21st, they are equal in "Purchasing Power", in that what they export is of about the same value... however Iran has a population of 77M Aus on has 23.5M... If a country of 77M is only outputting the same as a country of 23.5M it's not had to do the maths on who has the better economy, as a generalisation Australians are more then 3 times better of then Iranians...

The only thing that needs to be addressed is that people like you can't comprehend that this is a brand new mmo, honestly they should bring the servers down a lot more to fix the issues that they have, and most mmos would do just that regardless of what day or time it happens to be.
If there is a problem it should be fixed, they're going slowly enough with fixes because people like you complain so much, go back to your xbox if you can't handle down time, it's the nature of the beast when it comes to mmos.

It was on sundays, but there was a huge back lash from the NA and EU communities about having it on weekends when most people in these zones are off work.
Unfortunately someone has to take the bullet for maintenance, and since NA and EU are likely their biggest audience, they sort of set the schedules, like it or not.
Yes, someone has to take a bullet for maintenance. Yes, it is usually going to be the Oceanic player-base due to population proportions.
But why a Friday?
Why not have the regular maintenance periods be on Monday and Thursday, when the majority of Oceanic players still have to be awake for work/school the next morning? It's still the same period of time between maintenance days, without causing as many issues for peak playing time.
^^ This. ES players prefer get to lv.50 than go out on a friday night. The problem is it was a friday, why don't pick a useless day like wednesdays, and leave the weekend alone. Whilst many ppls works on shifts, I think weekends should always be sacred and the server running 24/3.0 -
