Gold Spammers Creating Guilds

Im not sure how wide spread it is. Or exactly what they intend to do with these Guilds. But today I received a ninja request to join a Guild that was named after a Gold Selling website.

The only thing I can think of is besides mailing people with offers. Theyre now using the Guild function to spread the word.

    Very likely.
Its not like it wasn't completely obvious that showing someones userID to pretty much everyone is a huge security risk.

It was just a question of time until the shady parts of the internet got funny ideas here.

No need to create a guild for that when you can just join one, get the roster, quit and join another.

The userId in guilds sorta make you vulnerable if you join a gold spammer's guild or join a guild that gives out random invites, which I suggest you decline and leave guilds that have no standard or validation check.

Im aware of this. Im just putting this out there so the word can get out that the Gold Spammers have changed their tactics. And people should be aware of what it is theyre up to.

Also, there's no way to block guild invites. They're just exploiting the next unregulated channel.

I had a bad feeling about this very thing the minute I saw that players were forced to show their login credentials in guild listings. It doesn't surprise me that hackers are forming whole guilds. I get mail bombed from gold farmers- I can't wait to start getting constant guild spam from them too.

In fact it wouldn't surprise me at all if players are randomly getting put into hacker guilds without approving it. I've been stuck in about ten random guilds since early start with different alts of mine, and I never said I wanted to be in any of them.

I think if you're busy crafting or fighting and don't see/can't see guild or friends' list invites, you are auto-joined after a set wait time. That must be the case, because I don't ever join anything but am in strange guilds with different characters all the time and I have to manually quit each one. Also, strangers have wound up on my friends list that I didn't put there.

Now that you mention it. I was invited while I was in an area full of Mobs. Does not shock me that theyre sitting out there where players are questing and attempting to slip in an invite during the middle of someones looting.

This definitely needs the immediate attention of the Devs.

In addition to creating their own guilds, they seem to be making characters and trying to get an invite to existing ones. I've seen at least 3 different characters, 2 named something along the lines of "dfdsadf".. and the last one being "popopo" all with the same "invite me to the guild" message. The message is two sentences long and basically saying they're a female player looking for a lovely guild. Second sentence starts without a space between it and the period. I don't think anyone has fallen for it, as most make fun of the name and it being a gold seller, but "popopo" sounds almost like it could be an actual character, so they might be getting smarter.

Um, do any moderators actually read these forums and report on what we say? Anybody at all?

An official response to this building debacle might be nice, before hackers steal most of the game's gold off the player base-- practically every new MMO gets major hack problems at launch, Rift being the first example off the top of my head.

Does anyone remember when hackers found a hole in Rift's code and bypassed the entire login system altogether, logging in directly as GMs, banging in 5 digit codes randomly (every login in Rift had a 5 digit code attached to it) and then raiding every last gold out of each player they were able to hit? Tens of thousands of accounts got hacked per day for weeks, and Trion outwardly kept throwing the blame back onto the player base. It was only when a white hat player (a former hacker gone good who went into internet security) found the hole in the code, announced that he'd found it on the forum, and said he'd tell Trion where the hole was but they had to 'fess up that the mistake was on their end, that the hole was plugged and the admittance made.

Do we really need to wait until tens of thousands of accounts are hacked here in ESO too? It'd be awfully nice to head this whole thing off at the pass. An awful lot of players are very uncomfortable with this "forced showing of login info" situation, and I'd like to know the official reason why global handles of the players' own choosing can't be used instead. Even decade-old games like City of Heroes used to use those. Why can't that be done here? Why *isn't* it being done here instead?

the best way to get information like this across is while ingame use /feedback

As I understand its more likely to be read than a thread on the forums :p theres only so many threads they can check here a day, in however much time they have to do so.

Almost certainly this. I have seen several people with gold-seller names (random letter strings) sitting around in cities doing nothing but asking to join guilds. If this isn't because they want to know your account name, I'll eat my hat.

They really need to reconsider making our account names so accessible. Maybe separate it into a private login account name and a public name that's common to all characters.

This one recognizes the "moonsugar pot" tactics used by dfdsadf. Not to worry, Ri'Darrit already reported seller of coin. All we really can do for now. Unless the makers bless us with gift of player marking for killing purposes, yes? The hunter becomes the hunted? Of course, this needs to be well thought of, such as 100 players report coin vendor for spam, you can kill then anywhere, perhaps? Coin Vendors won't have fun when getting grieved.

Looks like somebody donned his tin-foil hat today. It's dunny how people get all worked up about their account name but gladly take it from behind from countless companies they gave their data without blinking twice.

I don't know why they even bother - gold is not that hard to gain in-game just by playing the damn thing!

Which won't help them in the slightest except if players are careless, so it's not a big deal really apart from the annoyance.
