Can steam accounts and non-steam accounts mail each other in game?

I was thinking of getting a second account to get some characters for storage.

I guess if Steam and non-Steam cannot communicate, I can just buy a second non-Steam account and somehow log in with different ID's or something if I want to.

They can communicate, if they are on the same megaserver.

So, if I buy a copy on steam an doff steam, and pick the same region, they should be able to mail each other?

Yes, there are only 2 PC mega servers available to the 'western' market. PC-EU and PC-NA.

Everyone on NA can communicate with each other, and the same is true for EU.

Yes, there is no ingame distinction between Steam and non-Steam, the only difference is in how they launch the game. As long as both accounts are on the same server and platform then there is no problem interacting between them, although ZOS seem to have a strict policy about not running them at the same time other than, presumably, for transferring stuff. Multi-boxing is not permitted.

However, I strongly advise against buying the game through Steam, it is completely unnecessary and adds an additional and somewhat regular cause of unreliability where launching the game is concerned.

They can communicate like all other players, note that you can not mail bound items, that is all dungeon or trial sets.
This makes the second account pretty worthless as I see it.
Overland and pvp sets are best sold if you don't plan on using them soon as prices tend to drop, that is outside of briarheart :)
The only storage use I see is storing drops during this event for sale later then price goes up again.

Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

You can run multiple instances of the game at the same time, provided you are not using any scripts to control the actions of one account or the other. As long as you, sitting at your desk, are the only person providing input to the game, it is permitted to "tab" between the two games.

There was a thread about that earlier in the forums where somebody linked ZoS' official response to it.

Why do you wanna buy it on steam tho? As far as I remember there have been issues with ESO and steam plenty of times for my guildies on PC-EU, like they couldn't login etc.

I never want to have a game on the steam if the game has it's own launcher, it is weird that you need to open 2 launchers to play the game.

I have a Steam account and a non-steam account and mail items between them all the time. So, yes, it is doable. Also, if you want another non-steam account, you just need another email address.

As I recall it wasn't as simple as that. There was an implicit assumption on the part of ZOS that you would be using scripts etc. However, there remains the practical issue of how they would know there was only one person controlling both accounts, but as I don't reckon to multi-box and only use a second account to enable more characters to be played it's not an issue that has ever troubled me. Someone may be able to provide a clearer explanation of the official position as my memory of the original answer (by Jessica I think) is pretty hazy. In any event, this is rather hijacking the thread as it's not an aspect raised by the OP  !
