Auto level scaling is failure of game design.

It is just dump game design's hard part to users.
It seems good for enrich user's choice, but actually it is failure of game design.
Why?
Because some user don't want to be bothered and burdened unwanted pressure to decide difficulty on self.

For example, I want to fight some hard, difficult enemy while I am just going around the maps soloing.
But I can't. Why? Yes because of Auto-scaling level system. It sucks.

All I can is just only see Field Boss from far distance, yes this is so hard, absolutely can't fight with one man. And then feel despair that there is no friend or guild members, no field users who can help to fight with.
Or just participate Daily random dungeon and there meet some hard enemy, but yes they mostly fastly died by other party members.
Or yes there is some open dungeon? But it also designed for 4-players, so too hard to solo.

Why can't I just go more hard area and fight and test my character's strength?

All is because of auto level scaling suck system.

Overland trash mobs are cp160.
You are scaled to pseudo cp160 until you reach cp160.
You complain it's too easy.
You complain that enemies above cp160 are too hard.

I don't know overland. I don't what is cp160.
I am just newbie and just played PC baseset, PS4 summerset, and just have 2 characters, 17 sorc, 27 DK.

That's too hard.

There is content in this game that can challenge a solo player. Specific WBs (though some of them are too easy), group dungeons (the ones without assisted break free mechanics), Celestial Rifts, (v)MA, Dragonstar. If you can't find something, or choose to ignore valid options, that's on you not the system.

I did MA noCP at level 37 with garbage gear. If you want a challenge, go challenge yourself.

I think if you are new overland trash mobs are the only thing you can solo. World Bosses, Public Dungeons, Dolmens, Group Areas like Craglorn are too hard. If overland trash is no fun then I understand that.

Have you been to Craglorn yet? Everything is harder there because it was originally intended for groups but is now just a more difficult solo-adventure place.
ZOS will address the current issues with the champion point (CP) system and consequently the auto level scaling sometime in the future (whenever they have a solution ready).
Just know that everyone received the removal of zone levels with One Tamriel very well and it remains to this day a big selling point of this game. You can complete any quest at any time and it will still be relevant and beneficial for your character's progress thus leaving you the luxury of enjoying the stories and lore to the fullest without needing to worry about efficiency.

I suggest @OP; since they seem to already know the ins and outs of the game, go to Craglorn on new level 1-4 character wearing only white non set gear and weapons and solo it if they looking for a challenge, while not trying to sound like Tommy Wiseau

If you ever find yourself dissatisfied with the challenge level in the game, take your armor off. The system works quite well for just about everyone - sometimes, the onus is on you.

I will agree with OP, it's extremely boring and tedious thing to level up DK when you don't have any knowledge of the game, especially when you reach ~ lvl25 and new levels are getting so slowly. I suggest trying more fast and dps oriented class to reach CP160 and return to DK after that. Warden or nightblade will do. Warden is especially fun at the beginning.

Anyway, so there is good point then in your last mention too.
So then why not just maintain current situation and plus, give users to decide auto level scale's difficulty variable's deciding choice too?
So for example, give users difficulty selection option like Diablo3 system.
And of course more rewards for more difficult mode.

So... you want ESO to incorporate the easy, medium, hard, nightmare+ model from a completely different game... But you don't want things to be too hard, but at the same time want to be challenged...

Why not just either get to level 50 first and see what the rest of the game's world has to offer you?

Would be hard if not impossible to scale the difficulty of the zone you are playing in because other players are in that zone and can encounter the same enemies as you at the same time.

Because sooo many people cried for nerfs as they thought stuff was too hard!!

So at level 27 go try some 4 man dungeons solo...…. iirc you can access at least the first 3 by talking to the Unduanted in your Alliance starter city. They should keep you amused for a while

Craglorn is a zone...….. originally designed for groups so you may enjoy that too.

level scaling has been a part of this game for years now. Mostly for good, on a few occasions bad. But I read some things in your 'rant'. You find the normal overland mobs easy, guessing this is one by one then? Is it hard to if more than one attack you? If you can take on groups of mobs in the overlands, you can venture into public dungeons solo without much trouble. If you can solo public dungeons you can enter dungeons without much problem.

Some quick tips most new players tend to skip, forget or not learn before later:

- Always have an active food buff, as this is what the game was made with in mind, some foods scale on level.
- Make sure to have 1 singel target dmg, 1 aoe dmg, 1 heal ability on your bar at all times.
- Use Potions, you get enough of those white potions anyhow.
- Gear, try to get gear on your level (can update every 10 levels) untill level 50, then dont get new gear before 160cp.
- Gear, try to use sets for extra stat bonuses.
- Get skillpoints and fill out those passives in the skill lines you use (alot of them makes your character much stronger)
- All attribute points into stamina or magicka depending on what style of combat you want, and hybrids is not good.

Yup! best answer. ESO's level scaling is one of the best things about the game. Pre One Tamriel was so bad its not even funny.

Also OP, if you can't solo a public dungeon its a problem with your build. theyre easily soloable by someone who knows what they're doing.

I didn't have a problem with it in relation to solo content, other than outleveling if you do it all in order rather than moving to the next zone once you're high enough.

But the story and world are ESO's crown jewels. Needing to either move on and disrupt the story or be 5 levels higher than the content and getting neither challenge nor equipment you'd want to use is a real problem.

Of course the other problem is social. Friends you convinced to play the game couldn't just play with you. If you didn't have an alt down at their level you were screwed.

Auto level scaling is the single best improvement to the game since launch.

Giving everyone their own private instance of the game would be inefficient, a huge resource drain on the servers and pointless. This is an MMO, individual difficulty settings is simply not within the scope of the game.

I'm going to be perfectly honest, and I never thought in a million years I'd say this, but I miss veteran ranks. I want to travel to X zone because I know the creatures will be harder when I want a challenge. I want to use more than one button to kill something.
Remember the monsters in IC? They used to be really tough, and it was a lot fun. But now you cut through them like butter.
Back in the day Craglorn was where people would go for the ultimate overland challenge, but now it's just a node farmers paradise.

You are buffed by the game right now as you dont have the skill points to invest. So, yes, you are powerful right now. Gain levels to end game rank and things will get harder.

This is done so you can experiment with gear and builds to find something that works for you. And, to be able to do any content with your friends now, not in a month.
