today i witnessed something that has made me a little disgusted and disheartened to be frank, and its the accursed bot problem that is still rampant through Tamriel, but now some of the more well known trains have started to split off some of their numbers, to go visit a nearby merchant to sell off everything they have looted, and then return to the bot train again, only to repeat this process after a while again. i can just imagine the sort of gold the owners of these bot accounts make in a single day, and to make matters worse, some of these botting accounts seemed legit, with DLC costumes and crown store pets.

Hail fishers of Tamriel! Tired of herring about these boring guilds? Ever thought of reely getting the Master Angler achievement but find it too tedious to tackle it alone, or just wanting to fish for the heck of it? Well stay shark cause <Angler Management> is now recruiting fellow fishers! (PC EU) PM in game for an invite

Yep, I saw similar behavior and was amazed how one of the bots separated from group and went to merchant. I reported it and all other train members who had very distinctive account names like "randomcommonname.randomcommonsurname". Response was like always "we don't tell results of investigation".

Also they were all sorcs with double pets, it's really different to catch account name behind all those pets.

Saw the same thing last month with a full train of sorcerer bot.
I reported all of them and I keep go on the spot sometime just to be sure they'r not here (until now their not, so maybe zos ban them)

Now imagine that instead of farming materials, all those bots are programmed to follow one real player who has an addon that sends commands to all those bots. Some bots are spamming aoe heals and buffs while others simply wait to activate their aoe damage abilities and ultimates when the only real player sends them a command. Now imagine this in Cyrodill.
We effectively get a ball group. Now ask yourself how much skill does it take to be a member of a ball group if a bot could easily do that :)

Post ticket numbers for reports as well if you can, means any of the forums browsing staff can see them and chase them up.
Think there is an add-on for mass reports as well to save some time when reporting entire trains.

There was a time, shorty after the game launched on PC, that the bot problem was much worse. One could not go anywhere without seeing bots. Quests, delves, pretty much everywhere.

Zos got serious and took strong action. The problem seemed virtually resolved, but of course we know it is never totally resolved.

Considering how Zos took action before and how bots have made a strong comeback with seemingly little resistance it seems Zos is doing more to permit the behavior than showing earnest interest in battling back.

According to conversations with ZOS in the past they do ban waves on bots daily, but more are just made. I don't know how many people still report bots actively as at least on the forums there is a large amount of apathy towards it and you always find the posts where people say "not my job to report them".

It also seems that console has a much more substantial (or at least visible) problem as they videos you see of botting there is ridiculous.

Sadly as constantly comes up in these conversations, until ZOS takes a more active role in talking about their security enforcement in the game the community perception will be ZOS doesn't do anything at all.

This is the kind of thing which keeps players happy: https://www.eveonline.com/article/pc29kq/an-update-on-security-the-fight-against-bots-and-rmt

Even if you can't win the war, letting your community know you have troops fighting it goes a long way to appeasing their anger.

Splitting off from the main group and running to a merchant to sell has been a standard feature since at least 2017.

I actually got curious as to where they were going and managed to track some of them to Ebonheart. After a while, I could stand in Ebonheart near the wayshrine and just say "there goes a bot" because they all did exactly the same thing while in town.

I report them, but it is harder when there are active events taking place.

It’s much harder to report bots on PS4 (yep do get them). Text box too small and whilst it give the option to screen shot not sure how/what is being sent - don’t get to chose one from psn files - if of screen you are then on that’s pretty useless as might be away from bots when writing report (if I have missed something please let me know)

Large amount around tree on way to bat cave on Bleakrock. All woodelf sorcerers with pets. Bloody annoying.

Now imagine the effort, training, and cooperation it takes for 12 to 24 players to act as a coordinated team in Cyrodiil well enough to be mistaken for a bunch of bots, while breaking free, dodge rolling, managing their resources, watching the battlefield, and playing their role as part of a team.

As a member of one of those organized raids, I don't think you are making the point you think you are making. A good team makes it seem easy, and getting that good team working together where it seems easy is actually a hell of a lot of work.

Just curious bc i don't really understand and before I ask the querstion i don't even know how to Bot. What is the issue of someone having a BOT? Does it cause other people harm in the game or cause performance issues for ZOS? or is it just the fact people hate someone is making their lives easier by using a program to farm xp and crafting nodes?

Well, despite that the ToS (Terms of Service; the thing that many just click agree to with out actually ever reading) states it is a clear violation. Bots are and have been and will continue to be a blight to any MMORPG.

well I guess we should, since clearly you do not know what NAMEING and SHAMING is and are the one on a trip.

    I said pot, not LSD.

I don't care what you said it is still a drug and still messes with the brain.

Are you having a bad day? You seem rather agitated.

That "fix" also destroyed Cyrodiil performance, and was the beginning of the slow decline of PvP gameplay, and the community.

today i witnessed something that has made me a little disgusted and disheartened to be frank, and its the accursed bot problem that is still rampant through Tamriel, but now some of the more well known trains have started to split off some of their numbers, to go visit a nearby merchant to sell off everything they have looted, and then return to the bot train again, only to repeat this process after a while again. i can just imagine the sort of gold the owners of these bot accounts make in a single day, and to make matters worse, some of these botting accounts seemed legit, with DLC costumes and crown store pets.

Well one person breaking the rules deserves another I guess, if they are to do something about those bots, they need to also take action on your account for naming and shaming.

There is a distinct difference between game accounts and forum accounts as well as the rules governing them.

I did not watch the video, but yeah, if it shows player names, it is naming and shaming.

    Eh?

    I never said it wasn't.

I was simply saying that game accounts and forum accounts are adjudicated separately and so is real life.

To define them as equally interchangeable and culpable is a fallacy.

yet you accuse me of smoking pot when I said they were naming and shaming. Might want to put down what ever it is you are on because you are talking in circles.

You failed to understand my meaning.

Your meaning was pointless and was only made to just start ***. "You might have been smoking pot whilst writing this, should we call the police too?" I said they were naming and shaming and guess what genius they were. i'm don't talking to some idiot who wants to start crap on the forums. When ever you have an actual meaning lemme know K' thx Buh-bye.

ZOS does not take bot reports seriously. I have reported the SAME 3 bots almost daily for over 6 months. They are still running the same routes almost 24/7. I have given up on reporting.

You would think in a thread about botting people would be able to come together an unite against the bots, nope it's the internet so we have to argue about things.
