The main problem with Oblivion's Foe is that Soul Trap is a ludicrously weak skill without it, so the opportunity cost to running Soul Trap over another skill in the first place makes using the set not worthwhile. The x2 multiplier could otherwise offset the weak health regen bonus and the limitation to a single skill.

tried it yesterday with WM and got 14k tooltip.. . saddly my Cripple got 18K tooltip in the same bar.

Nevertheless it is an unblockable and undodgeble skill.

OF is not a wortless set, but needs some work to make it really useful (Max magicka and spell crit would be a great idea instead of health and stam regen)

Throw on Death's Wind and Draugr's Heritage. It's completely useless, but it's great for a laugh

I'm gonna insist with shali... an 8 traits set that heals you on light attacks is a great idea, but you have to be half dead to make use of it. At least Orgnum's proc at 60% health, when you need it the most and doubles your health recovery.

Oh, by the way, nobody has mentioned Combat Physician yet? :D

Soul Trap is unblockable and undodgeable? Didn't know that. Makes it interesting.

This whole thread has me wanting to try out a non-class/weapon skill build. Using only skills from Mages Guild, Soul, Psijic, and Vampire line. Light Armor shield as well just to be safe.

Once I tried an "Assasin of the Guild" build using Mages guild and destro staff skills.. it was fun.

The funniest part of that build was casting volcanic rune at the feet of the defenders on a keep's wall XD

If you like theorycrafting with underperforming sets then I heartily recommend Assassin’s Guile. I’ve spent hours and hours trying to get that awful set to function with different combinations of poisons.

With the right sets, the build could be interesting. There are certainly enough non class and non weapon skills to make something semi viable now.

Front Bar would be: Soul Trap for a dot or as a spammable when enemies are dodging. Ele Weapon as the main spammable. Invigorating drain for the stun. Mages Light. Annulment. And a morph of Soul Strike for the ult. Back bar would be Bat Swarm, Deep Thoughts, Volcanic Rune, Elusive Mist, Structured Entropy and Time Freeze for an AOE stun.

I have been wanting to pair this set with the Moon Hunter set. Since the cooldown for the poison proc isn't changing, your poisons will be stronger since they last another 4 seconds and every time they proc you gain 600 spell damage.

I have a theory, whenever you say "Combat Physician 5 times in front of a mirror..."

Ha, yeah it's pretty bad. However, I did do a crazy pet sorc build with it. Ran Maw, both sorc pets and the Storm Atro ult. And ran necro. When everything procced, I would have 5 pets out (Maw, Defiler, Atro, and Sorc Pets). It was pretty crazy. Could solo world bosses without my health even moving. Unfortunately it was only really annoying in PVP.

good point: I tried it on Stamplar and StamDK...not good at all

Defiler actually isnt too bad on a stamplar as you can trade one skill for the stun, plus every time the pet dies you can repent it which actually offers quite a unique sustain tool :3

I'll throw in Varen's Legacy, I used it once on a saptank but the damage is super mediocre and you can't really block that much. Maybe with s/b ult and spammables like impluse, sap, draw essence, ...

Ashen grip. Due to the animation for the 5 pc, I think you actually lose dps by using it compared to having a non set item in its place. 4pc Ashen grip + 1 pc (non set) may just beat 5 pc Ashen Grip.

Of all the crafted sets, I think Ashen Grip leads the pack as the most useless.

You could pair the defensive sets with an offensive set, which for a new player learning pvp is not a bad idea. Others, if you pair with the right class and build around the short comings can give you a viable niche build. Still others are helpful in group play, or create unexpected events that throw an opponent off or are otherwise just fun to mess with.

But Ashen Grip... 2nd and 3rd bonus is for a different damage type than the 5th bonus. The 5th bonus's proc is also too circumstantial, the damage too small, and the cool down theoretically too long. I say theoretical because the animation takes over the attack you intended. You may as well as have self-interrupted. I think it will only work with a melee DK build, but it means basically you just put a handicap on an otherwise strong build.

(And I say this having built around an unarmed stam DK for PvP.)

    Neither set is useless.

Ashen Grip though. Hard to proc, and the proc itself does pretty much nothing.

Oblivion's Edge is also really bad for PvP.

Players easily forget the added utility of Adept Rider ... during this current meta of the combat bug. ;)
