The search for PvE groups/guilds frustrates me

Okay. Got any recommendations how to get it higher on single-target?

Only thing I'm really interested in is dungeons.

Don't know who Liofa is, but first impressions tell me that he/she is an incompetent and terrible. And no amount of titles of "Best player in ESO" will convince me otherwise.

Check Alcasts site for builds ;)

Seriously, why would anyone retype for you what those that have been recommended have already taken the time to write or record for you (and others)?

"Hey, what do you recommend for a Magicka DK with a Fire Mage Playstyle?"

"Easy! Burning Spellweave and Second item set"

Yeah, definitely needs serious time in retyping an entire catalog of text.

Don't know myself sometimes, honestly. All I know is that I am expressing my feelings (Although not the most positive of feelings, as I am not given any reason to have a good impression). Besides, I don't see why I should automatically grovel and respect someone just because "They one of teh b3st players in teh gaem", after swinging in with "Oh, as a Guild Leader, I definitely wouldn't want YOU in my guild!".

If the OP's guildies didn't make those sites, they sure don't deserve the negative feedback. What they deserve is a polite thanks for their time and advice. Heck, heeding the advice would be a little nice icing on the cake.

Take the feedback to the people who actually have control over the various media. Or, in the case of bad site design, use extensions and add-ons to strip the horrible layout away with a single click of a button.

Did also say that I could copy the text, trim a bit of needless detail, and just try to get around that. Though I am still in a state of feeling fairly bitter about the prospect, so I'll need a bit of time to shimmer down before indulging a look at the guides.

Should also mention what kind of "Negative feedback" it is. It isn't me thrashing the guildies in question, but more of a "Ugh, can you recommend me a website that doesn't look terrible?". Doesn't sound too unreasonable if you ask me.

Although for one guild it was more like me asking for advice, only getting links to Xynode, me saying "All I did was ask for advice, sorry if that is too tall of a thing to ask for" after a bit of a back-and-forth with my stance about them just linking me a website, guild leader getting a bit rude, me being rude in return, only to get a boot. Though someone then told me later that it was him and his "Zany humor", but let's be honest, someone telling you to "Take the advice and shut the *** up" does not sound humorous nor zany.

I would also like to mention to the folks here who are trying to have a go at me, that you're not exactly successful in your attempts of guilt-tripping me or "Trying to show the error of my ways" with the fairly condescending remarks that some people have expressed (I still like how someone said that I "Must be a nightmare to deal with", really charming). If anything, I just feel like doubling down on my stance because frankly... It's not encouraging me to change my mind when someone decides to call me a "Lost cause" or whatever, just because I happen to express a harsh opinion that a website looks terrible, gave me a bad impression, thus making me conclude that the information provided is not worth the time.

Besides, I prefer asking other players what they suggest or what they run with, as I find players to be more reliable than some guide. If players tell me "Go read a guide", then they are probably people who can't be relied upon. Simple as that.

First one-- yep, your "ugh" comment is absolutely negative feedback. One, it gives the person who offered you advice a helping of ingratitude for taking the time to share information with you. Two, you're indirectly insulting their aesthetic sense. Three, you sound exceptionally picky, as if a mere pleb such as you seem to imply they are is incapable of satisfying your needs to your satisfaction. If I'd been on the receiving end, I'd never offer you information again.

The second one, people shared links to a site with you that they found helpful. Maybe they took their builds specifically from that site, so they had nothing else to offer you. Not everyone's a theorycrafter, or has tons of time to type in whatever chat thingie you were using. Then you got snarky with them. If I'd gotten that response, you'd be off my radar if you asked me for advice again. If I saw you snarking at someone else like said guild leader after getting a dose myself, you'd end up on my ignore list. Life's too short to deal with that.

I imagined this was the closest to a forum section outside of Looking For Group to vent some sorrow in me, so I am posting this here.

So I am getting pretty frustrated at this point. All the PvE guilds I've been in have either booted me out for reasons I don't wish to dwell in, or I left due to membership being really really low, and it's starting to get on my nerves a bit.

I'm interested in PvE, and thus far the only way I can get in to it is via pugs in Craglorn, or through the LFG, both of which are not that ideal or stable.

Granted, I am having troubles mainly because I have fairly negative reactions whenever someone suggests going to Insert guide website here whenever I ask "Hey, what do you suggest for Current character I'm playing", but even then I didn't think it'd be so unreasonably difficult to find a place to settle down in and... You know. Do dungeons and shizz.

Like at the moment I wish to get the Burning Spellweave set for my Dunmer DK, as I'd like to have it on hand if I wish to switch back to being a Fire Mage, and yet I either have to sit around for many minutes waiting for the LFG to pop, or pester zone chat for many minutes until giving up.

What in the Eight Divines am I supposed to do!?

I know your problem its one of many people have when it comes to the social aspect of the game. I actually created a guild on PC NA with the focus of casual players ( no toxic elitism) who want to group sometimes for whatever reason including world bosses, public dungeons, delves, 4 man dungeons on normal and vet, and even trials.

Basically a guild of people who do not care about meta, leaderboards, no death runs, practicing on a dummy for 2 hours a night, watching videos of other people running content for hours to "study" and other nonsense that sucks the joy out of gaming.

Sadly, i got busy soon after i created the guild and have not done anything with it. Though i am thinking about trying to get it off the ground. It would be nice to be able to group with people to go do random stuff. Definitely need more laid back guilds that are still active .

OP, any good player in the game knows that “BSW and some other set” is woefully inadequate advice for someone struggling at 15k dps. Build is more than sets. Alcast covers Mundus, food, race, CP allocation... And the MOST important thing he covers is a basic rotation. I always recommend alcast as a starting point for anyone struggling with dps because you see the rotation and learn the basics, like how to match up durations, laying down your dots and filling time with spammables, making sure your rotation (or pots) have a source of all the important damage buffs, etc. get that down and get some decent dps, and THEN you can start talking about tweaking it to make your own builds.

Just read the freakin guide that represents many, many hours of work not just by one person, but a whole guild of testers. Take it and be grateful for it. Why not?

I also recommend reading back over all of your own posts in this thread and working on self-awareness. EDIT: and also gratitude. Gratitude is the key to happiness, and being happy will make it easier for you to be more friendly and find more people to help you get what you want out of the game.

As a Guild Master, I wouldn't even consider taking a player to my guild if they can't be bothered to read a guide online because the design looks bad. These guides are free. The creator doesn't have to make it look good. The purpose is to teach, not give your eyes something to enjoy looking at. A guilds purpose is to get better together and progress as a team. No wonder you are having troubles finding a guild, knowing that you refuse to read free information that can help you get better at the game and be more useful to the guild you want to get in.

Well. Good thing I have no interest in joining you, if that is your attitude.

So you are saying that a website can have whatever look it wants, as long as it is informative? What? For Xynode I can't even properly read the blue text due to the background, but hey, who cares, it is an informative piece so it's okay by your logic.

Honestly I should consider just copy-pasting the text, edit it around so it will be more pleasant and less bloated to read through.

I am more than willing to listen to suggestions from guild members, but I don't know what is more unhelpful. Someone merely siggesting a website, or someone disregarding comfort when it comes to reading stuff.

Actually, I'll just say it. You sound incompetent and terrible if you don't care for people's reading comfort, and should not lead guilds.

    xd.

So much this. Players neither know what your aesthetic preferences are, nor have time to find a site that fits them to please you. Those sites, regardless of how you feel about how they look, provide useful information which others have taken the time to share with you. If you weren't rude (at your own admission) in response, maybe some discussion might ensue about how a player took that build and changed it up and made it their own, and how maybe that might work for you too. However, it doesn't sound like you let it get that far. As indicated in the post below, maybe a little navel-gazing might be in order to see how you're contributing to this issue, rather than complaining that no one is willing to spoon-feed you.

Just saying wear x, y and z isn't going to help you get that 15K any higher. What those sites and guides, and videos people are telling you to look at will. They will cover all the bases and explain not just what, but why, and in some cases alternatives for the same money -- and rotation, skills and morphs (the most important part).

    SNIPPED

I can't imagine myself wanting to use voice communication with pugs. Have a hard time wanting to use it in general really.

But I must admit, I haven't thought about asking in pugs for any guild invites. I'll give that a try next time I'm running through a Trial in a pug.

Well you're just doing loads of complaining about everything anyone does for you. Also, there's a reason:
All the PvE guilds I've been in have either booted me out for reasons I don't wish to dwell in

Perhaps just consider how your attitude might be perceived by others and try to be a little more grateful for help and time that others grant you.

Also: If you do not like the format of a website just copy and paste it into a word document and format it to your liking - and then read it. This is not complicated.

Don't just get mad - just think a little about it?

I had a guy FULL ON RAGING in my trade guild about pugs etc and I was gonna offer to tank his pledges for him - but he was SO MAD and SO RAGEY I really didn't feel like doing *that* for the next 20 mins. So I didn't offer.

And it ain't really an excuse. Here is an example: If someone were to post a recipe for something you'd want to make, and decided to make the background blue, and the text green, would you find it hard to read?

If yes, then don't give me a hard time for not wanting to sit through a website that is designed terribly.

Obvious troll is obvious, but there might be some people reading this thread and thinking "I want to experience part of the game and I'm afraid I won't be able to improve to the point where I can achieve this."

To those players, look at how many in the community came rushing to this troll's aid. Community ambassadors, YouTube streamers, end-game guild leaders, etc.

If you are truly open to advice, willing to do the modicum of research that anybody you are asking for help has already done, and are gracious and not eager to poo-poo on every bit of help that people are offering you, then the community will fall all over itself to help you.

Forum warriors get a bad rep for being toxic, but this is a good example of how happy to help the majority of this community really is.

It honestly wouldn't be so bad, if they would at least name names, as opposed to say "Look at this website lul". Would help if there were at least sites that were pleasing to the eye, or were formatted in a way that could provide decent information.

For example, take a look at these three screenshots. One is Icyveins, a WoW related website for guides and such, and the other is Xynode, an ESO related website for guides. For the sake of it, let's throw in Alcast as well as I too have qualms with it. Tell me, which of the three would you find more pleasing to look at, and more informative without trying to bloat the guide with needless details?

If you ask me, Xynode just fails because the background interferes with the text, the guide is also bloated with text, and I dare you to try and read the blue text without feeling like punching the person writing the guide for being dishonorable. Alcast, on a second look, doesn't look too bad, though the background doesn't do it any favors, as it looks really lifeless and depressing, and I kinda feel a little irked with how it offloads a bunch of details all over the place. Icyveins has a blue background which helps make it look a bit more lively, and the information is fairly well laid out. Also a new thing I haven't seen before, is that there are pages to the guides, so you don't end up reading a massive block that you have to jump through in order to find what you're looking for.

Ultimately, I wish to ask is: Send me a link to a website that doesn't look terrible, and I'll be less inclined to a passive aggressive reaction and actually consider shifting through it.

Chiming in here as someone who is colourblind (tritanomaly) along with sensory processing disorder - in short, most of these black-background-white-text and horribly done website guides are rubbish for me to try and sift through for information. I generally end up copy-pasting the text of the page I need (whether it's a build or whatever) into Word and then setting the font/color to something readable. another option, if you're on Mac, is to use "reader mode" on Safari browser. On PC, you can use the "Reader View" Chrome addon, or even view the website on a mobile device or tablet so you get the mobile layout, not the terribly ugly one. I do this for sites like Icy Veins because, even though it's well-done in terms of layout, it's not disability-friendly.

In regards to the bit about your reaction to people giving you the information you're asking... are you specific in what you're asking for me? If I was to ask someone, "what kind of build should I be doing for my NB?" they'd likely send me to a generic ESO build website, because I wasn't specific enough. If I asked "what could I do spec-wise for a magicka NB? I want to focus mostly on PVE but soloing instead of dungeons" etc, I'm more likely to get a beneficial answer.

Then again, the guilds I've been in, I made sure were the types of guilds I'd want to be in (ie, friendly, helpful, not toxic) so the guild members are more likely to try and help me figure a spec out than just toss me a link and leave it at that. I've found good guilds via the ESO sub-reddit (not sure if I can link it here, but it's r/elderscrollsonline - if you Google that, it's the first result). They have a thread linked in the sidebar for guild recruitment.

Finally, a lot of text can be misconstrued over the internet, so I'm not sure what exactly they're saying to you while linking you to websites, but the reaction of "I'd be less inclined to a passive-aggressive reaction" isn't going to get you any good replies from anyone. If you're not getting the answers you want, ask a more in-depth question or simply find the people who are more likely to help you (this forum, or even that sub-reddit I linked). I hesitated replying to this thread because the initial bit about how you said you react to someone helping you rubbed me wrong, but I wanted to offer some information at least relating to the whole "these websites look like rubbish" bit, because I understand that and could offer some assistence there.

People seem to think I am trolling.

Well... I'm not. Unless you think "Not being very polite and responding in an emotional manner" is trolling.

Oh, and @greenmachine , you may think many people are being helpful here... I honestly found only two, three, up to at least five people who did chime in with something helpful. For the most part, I find the posts... Not as helpful.

If you think a build is just what gear you're wearing, you have a serious misunderstanding of how the nuances of a build work. No, not even nuances. The bare basics.

A build consists of, at its core, 1) gear, 2) skills, and 3) rotation. That response only covers one part of a build. And arguably, it is one of the smaller components that contribute to the overall success of the build. So just answering "use this set and that set" is literally giving you only 10 to 15 percent of the build itself. The other 85 to 90 percent of the build is entirely missing.

To go into an entire build would take, at the very least, 15 minutes through a video. Through what is essentially "live help"? Easily over an hour. My build videos cover everything you would need to know about the build, including a brief discussion on rotation and a parse so you can visually see the rotation at work. Most of those end up around 25 to 35 minutes long. And I'm not answering or clearing up any questions in these videos.

So it would take people longer to fully answer your question in text chat, since they not only have to type it out, but also answer and clarify any questions and details, change their responses based on what you want, etc.

You are being entirely unreasonable by refusing to use websites or videos that people direct you to. Oftentimes, these guides will cover everything you need to know and those creators explain the details in a better way than the people you are asking. What you are literally asking for is for information to be presented to you in one specific manner and completely blowing off anybody who presents it otherwise. This is entirely unreasonable and not conducive if you want to improve and join new guilds.

I'm honestly curious to know what kind of information or suggestions from other people you have found helpful.

Personally, I'm often quite happy to work in detail with someone on their builds and rotations, until we have the very last detail sorted out. But I only agree to do so provided that the person I am helping trusts that I know what I am talking about based on my experience of the game. I don't believe that there are noob questions and I try to answer them as much as possible, but I certainly draw the line when they start challenging mechanics of the game that are out of our, i.e. the players' control.

Based on what I have read in this thread so far, it appears to me that you do not seem to trust the opinions and suggestions from those who have spent a large amount of time trying to understand how the game works, and then summarizing these mechanics in the form of online guides and videos for the community. Why?

Maybe you should get off your high horse, swallow your pride, and just do your research

That's honestly your excuse for not getting better as a pve player? Oh the website looks ugly, I can't read and build my character properly cause I was blinded

Geez, no wonder you cant find a good guild. If i heard that excuse I wouldnt run anything with you either, you're just looking for free carries

    Whatever you say, sugar-pie.

I don't want "Carries". I do however wish to do PvE. And I am willing to listen to people's advice... Hear that: Advice. So that means people who probably run with several builds recommending what they run with. Nothing bad about that.

And it ain't really an excuse. Here is an example: If someone were to post a recipe for something you'd want to make, and decided to make the background blue, and the text green, would you find it hard to read?

If yes, then don't give me a hard time for not wanting to sit through a website that is designed terribly.

Do you have a reading disability? (I apologize if you've already clarified that earlier in this thread.)

lol, When I was a Guild officer, I met so many self-centered players. They taught me not even to waste time arguing with them. Let them go. Now where are my popcorns?

Chase the meta and the only thing you can expect is a cookie cutter answer. You shouldn't get upset if you are asking for a cookie cutter build and someone links a website to exactly what you are asking for. Come up with your own builds and you wont ever face that problem again. As far as finding a good guild....well, pug and perform well and you may be invited...that is the best way to find them.

Yes, the suggestion is to check out alcast, xynode, T3easiangod, etc... but you have already been told this and for some reason have firmly decided it is beneath you.

It’s even a simpler matter than installing a browser extension. Just select the text you want to read with your mouse. Instant contrast. I started on the internet during the geocities heyday, so don’t talk to me about difficult to read web sites. Yes, get off my lawn and all that. You can get the information you need and still survive to tell the tale, trust me.

I honestly don't know if you're trolling at this point, or if you truly believe what you're saying.

I think you should start doing more than 15k dps THEN start thinking about a trials guild. Also, calling Liofa one of the best players in eso incompetent is just.... Wow

Oh, I see what you did there... *half-hearted golf-clap*

(Especially) if we leave out whichever items and sets are overpowered at any particular moment, then the difference between other good items and sets is of tiny importance compared to either of skill rotation or player skill. I'm good enough to duo the easiest 1/4 of vet dungeons (and to heal the easiest 1/2 of HMs), yet there are players in this game who could do at least 1.5X and probably 2X the damage I do with nearly identical class, race and gear.

(E.g. Breton or Altmer Sorcerer, Necropotence, Mother's Sorrow or Julianos, Slimecraw or Valkyn Skoria, infused lightning staffs with various combinations of the obvious enchants, gold weapons and purple everything else, almost all divines except for one or the other big piece infused, probably too many of the original magicka regen enchants on the rings, and I've never parsed over 25K.)

A bit of a weird question. I can read English quite well, but... Well, do you know contrast? Bad contrast between text and background can make things fairly unreadable.

Oh, and to clarify my stand on the whole "What set should I use" thing that I've mentioned: It seems that sets are the main thing for the most part. Honestly if I have to, I'll figure out the rest myself. I imagine some people would like to think that I cannot contain a single comprehensible thought judging by the thread and comments I've made, but believe me when I say "Yeah, I can think well enough".

I mean, how hard can it be to look at every single possibility and then think of a way to increase damage output? I am prone to cloudy judgement, but I am not an idiot.
