You are correct about a Spanish translation in the game but it is a poor choice to suggest people just learn English. There is nothing wrong with asking for a Russian translation in the game, but something is wrong to suggest everyone should know English.

I expect you are in NA. Most that live in E & W Europe know more languages than those in the USA.

Actually, I´m in Spain, Europe, and know 4 lenguages. It took time and effort, but today I can go almost everywhere in the world and understand/be understood. The same applies to this game. While english isn´t my native lenguage, I took time to learn it (and play games in english, wich also helped a lot), something russians and everybody else can also do.

You want to believe that you're better but it's not true. Almost for 2 years of playing this game I have seen enough toxic and xenophobic messages from Europeans. I saw the same flood in chat in another languages but nobody cares. But every time it comes to Russian language or cyrillic alphabet what do we see? Insults. Lots of insults from the so-called "best" part of the TESO community.
I saw how 2 guys from the certain European country had started to insult a girl for just "hello" word when she entered in dungeon. And they had continued to insults her in English and their native language before she left because of their pathetic gamestyle at lastboss. Don't believe? I have a proof.

I'll tell you. Every time I'm in Stonefalls, or Vivec, or Summerset, I see this in zone chat:

Next comes a dialogue in a strong language only. In Russian. A lot of non-Russian players understand it, too - Poland, Czech, many other former USSR countries and neighbours, and even some EU players who learn Russian.

And you know what? I speak English and German, a bit less Spanish and Italian. And I never saw something like this in English, German, Spanish or Italian in 4 years. Weird, eh?

I know what you mean, and I don't like such behavior either, as well as people in the zone chat writing vulgar jokes in English by the way, but not all Russian players are like that. As it was said here before, sometimes it's not so easy to figure out, that person you're speaking in English with is from Russia, so such generalizations are just inappropriate and rather offensive.

I don't think you understand how difficult and time consuming learning a second language is. As someone currently learning Japanese, I can tell you it's not as easy as "just dealing with it"

English is studied as first foreign language in schools in Russia since elementary school, while kids are still flexible for that kind of thing. It's only person's own fault if being a kid they dropped knowledge over a few more hours to do nothing.

There's RuESO addon. Fan made translation. Pretty decent, you can use it but personally i prefer vanilla english.
If you stick with english too who knows might even learn the language while playing. So win win.

The lack of a Spanish language set has always surprised me a bit. It's a weird one to overlook, but, it's not there.

My thought is that the budget (technical and financial) helped define the translations, and they decided to start with just two. Why no Spanish is likely due to the relative popularity among the gamers in the two geographies. Spanish may be popular, but is it in the top three among gamers in NA and EU?

They are hating Russian because you can't write say in Chinese or Arabic, human by default are mostly afraid of what they don't know or understand and usually they hate what they fear and since Russian is the most "foreign" langage in chat so they hated. And yes you find more people in zone chat offended when seeing Russian then they do when something in wrote in French for instance

The cyrillic font used on the game is obnoxiously big. That is of course not the fault of Russian players but it just spams everything out.
I'm Dutch myself. On tv we mostly use subtitles on foreign programs and the bulk of that is in English so you start learning it from a young age. Been reading English novels since my early teens and thus never had issues with English games.
It would be great if humanity could one day decide on one common second language but with the current rise in nationalism worldwide those chances are slim.

By the way, comrades, check the last year thread about the Cyrillic font. I tried to draw devs attention to this problem, but ever still the problem is here. There were also people talking about how toxic Russians are, so they don't deserve anything, but those posts were deleted by moderator. Funny thing that this fix applies to everyone, not only Russians. We have an addon, by the Eight! It's QoL-like thing, right?

I wonder, should we always be so hostile to each other? Also, how should I call such hostile non-Russians? Toxic, I suppose. Anyway, what I want to say, is that such accusations are pointless and counterproductive. Idiots can be found anywhere.

after watching this thread, i just wish Zenimax ip lock the game away from Russian player

Its adapt or gtfo, if you dont want to learn english and adapt to the game, just get out of there

russian player in this game are like people going to mcdonald, trying to ordering something that is not on the menu and then making a huge mess becauswante they cant get what they want

and im not talking about ALL russian, i have some russian friends which adapted to english, they would be ashamed of some russian here

People who are ashamed for the deeds of other people, because they live in the same country and speak the same language. Hmm, sounds quite chauvinistic if you ask me.

Being a member of the French guild, I met a lot of French players which don't know a single word in English. Ah, wait, they have French client, so they don't need to learn English. Now, Russians have a fan-made translation, which I heard is quite decent, so Russian players don't need to learn English to play the game. Same as French, right? EU community is not toxic enough to be fun. But I'm adapted pretty well for it, and dont wanna a separate server or localization. ESO is the only place where I actually trying to speak English, so it useful to me anyway.
