My ancestors have fought, bled and died so that I could have my freedom today. That includes the freedom of speech. We all have it. The moment we start limiting it is the moment we start losing it - all of it. It is also the moment you spit on the grave of your ancestors.

What not everyone has is some tough skin to ignore toxic behavior.
What not everyone has is the ability to control their feelings like it is expected of adults.

You are free to talk whatever you want.
You are also free to cover your ears whenever you want.
If you see someone posting something you don't like, then just put them on ignore list.
If your ignore list is full, then ask for creating an addon that would extend it. Or even better make it yourself!
And if you can't then use that situation to train yourself to control your own emotions.

You and only you are responsible for what you feel.
If there are people who can choose to be calm and focused while someone tries to kill their mother with a knife, then you can choose to stay calm when someone types words in a video game.
And if you are unable and fail to control your emotions, then accept that as your failure. Only then you will be able to use it as a learning opportunity.
As someone wise once said: "A failure is nothing more than an easily forgotten part of success."

It's hilarious how there's this widely held perception that it's somehow a hallmark of personal strength to be able to ignore someone's bad behaviour. It really isn't. It's the equivalent of sticking your head in the sand and waiting for the bad thing to go away. Taking the path of least resistance takes no courage or strength of character.

People with an outwardly "thick skin" still lay awake at night going over things that went bad/awkward/painful/embarrassing for them that day, last week, or 10 years ago. Those who don't aren't "strong", they're just sociopaths.
AD is the best looking faction. I don't make the rules, I just enforce them.

Freedom of speech does not equal freedom from consequence. If you decide to harass or insult, you can continue doing that in front of your bathroom mirror. Even in a country like the US, there are restrictions - harassment, slander, false advertising, and the like. (I mean, those ancestors kind of failed with regard to the freedom to use and broadcast four-letter and other swear words esp. in front of children. ;) ) And there are good reasons for those restrictions. Plus, we're at the garden party of ZOS. ESO zone chat is not the public sphere. If I don't want you to hear slagging off someone in my house, I can throw you out, and that has absolutely nothing to do with freedom of speech.

noticed someone on ps4/NA (AD) asking politely over and over again for folks to please stop using zone chat to simply cuss each other and banter back and forth - to leave it for folks whom want to gameplan and talk eso...recommended people whisper each other or take it off line if they want to get personal...

that message itself got a little tiresome after a few dozen times, but, it actually worked a bit...

I appreciated their effort...they were super polite and it kind of worked a little..

tbh I dont see the issue with just ignoring people...

like that's literally the point of the ignore system
But that doesn’t help the problem, it just makes it worse by saying you’d rather ignore and let them continue to say stuff like that instead of calling them out on it.

I don't think time and resources should be put into this since players can ignore it or simply not get offended by such insignificant things.
