Zone Chat Vivec EU

Since reporting does naff all, I would like a GM to log in and watch chat for a week, and see the the kind of crap we have to deal with in zone chat on Vivec (EP side). We have toxic people saying homophobic, racist crap. Talking about *** women, children AND animals. Telling people they should die of AIDS and cancer.

Some of us suffer from depression and anxiety, and gaming is our escape. Even on our bad days (maybe especially so) we log in, to escape from what we have to deal with in real life. I can say from personally experience that this makes it worse, and it's publicly viewable in zonechat. In fact, during these past few days, I had to contact my own crisis team to make them aware of what I'm feeling, because of these people.

The lag and server issues are bad enough, but for me this is the final straw. I refuse to play this game if people can chat like this with no repercussions. I'm about to cancel my membership (payed since day 1) and find something else to play.

PLEASE do something about this, something that actually helps.

FYI - I'm probably the only 'out' person on EU EP Vivec, and I defend anyone against anything I see that clearly isn't just a little joke.

When I call people out, they do shut up for an hour or two. But I'm not here to be a social warrior. I'm here to chill out.

    Sounds horrible.
Is this for real. Still sounds worse then I can imagine.

How do you think, how many people are sending such messages?
Did you try to contact with support?

It's VERY real. Accounts that change their their account names, but are still recognisable. Even with different Account names and characters. Even if they did get banned, they do genuinely have more accounts. It's a very serious issue, I refrained from swearing, but the *** they say is horrendous.

Imagine paying a game with your friends and someone whispers you saying "*** you, I will *** all of your pets"

You always can report them (right click at their name in chat). Some of them even get quiet when you say that they've been reported. And also you can add them to the ignore list.
One of the two of us definitely has gone mad. It only remains to define whether this one is the whole world or just me.

No sure if it's available on PC but on Xbox you can mute the person & they won't appear in your chat log.

Unfortunately that seems to be all we can do at the moment :(

My advice is report and ignore, but also don't think it too much, these... "beings" are terribly ill, looking to do anything for attention. If everyone would ignore them, they would leave the game; but people react to it, and I wouldn't blame them of course, but it's what they want. They exist in the real world and although this is a game to escape reality, it's also composed by real people since it's multiplayer, so you have to deal with it like irl.

    I hope ZoS bans them.

Sorry to hear this, but AD is much more civilized then, I don't see things like that. The most common is complaining that we don't know how to defend keeps or how to deal with ball groups.

    ESO needs GMs.

Even if they were not logged in 100% of the time, I feel like much of the toxicity in zone chat would disappear since players knew a GM could possibly be around to immediately respond.

Yes, I know you can add people to ignore. If someone pisses me off enough, I do that for an hour or three. My point is, EVERYONE sees this, those new people joining Cyro, and the vets. Nobody should see what they post, and I know for a fact, these people get multiple reports against them. But they aren't even getting 2/3 day bans, they are there EVERY day. We are literally subjected to horrible chat every day. And they think it is funny.

They shut up when I call them out, but I'm not always there to defend people. Nobody should be subjected to this.

My blocked players list is getting so big I often only see one sided conversations in Cyrodiil.

And since when is the desire to not hear peoples complaints or read their dribble in chat being fascist?

Are you stating that players filling chat with dribble have a greater right to freedom of speech than players stating they don't like said dribble?

Looks like double standards to me, [snip].

Everyone has to make there own way, if someone needs help then help them.
Im not saying its right, I would stand up for the person being hit out at by your side and we would win.
All my point is, is that to restrict what people can say starts with good intentions but ends badly.

Sadly there isn't much you can do except putting people on your ignore list or mute the zone chat.

While people are not allowed to say certain things in chat (as stated in the ToS) it still happens. And while I understand this is pretty frustrating, I would mute the zone chat or even move to a different campaign if Vivec is bad. I can't say, I play on the ad side there and I think zone chat is okay there.

So much toxicity in this game, mostly because there are no GM's most other games i've played has had GM's online who actually play and take part in things and help to make a safe environment,
    ESO needs an active GM.
It would take a GM about 30 min to clear out the trash and reduce the toxicity drastically if they actually existed.
    Sadly GM's are a myth.

it's the year of our lord 2019 and grown adults still don't understand that freedom of speech doesn't mean "you can say whatever you want any time you want without any consequences". it means the government isn't allowed to touch you if they don't like the words that are coming out of your mouth/keyboard/loudspeaker/etc

private companies like zos are very much allowed to discourage, curtail, or ban whatever speech they want on premises they operate, and in fact they already do; the code of conduct is in fact very explicit about what kind of stuff you're not allowed to say while using ZoS's services:
You may not harass, threaten, embarrass, or cause distress to another customer or guest using ZeniMax sites and Services. This includes but is not limited to verbal attacks, unwanted messaging, personal attacks, stalking or any other undesired behavior used to cause discomfort or disrupt another customer's experience. At all times users will refrain from attacking Age, Race, Disability, Sexual Orientation, National Origin, Pregnancy, Gender or any other protected category under Federal or Maryland State law.

if someone is being a hostle jerk in open zone chat, especially if they're targeting vulnerable people, that's not about freedom of speech. report them, encourage others to report them, don't let them get away with it.
AD is the best looking faction. I don't make the rules, I just enforce them.

Why do you read chat instead of making pvp?

Chat is good for people to let others know where the action is, what keeps are starting to come under attack, etc., and some people rely on it to get into groups.

When I'm busy I don't even notice what is being said, it's only when waiting for something or riding somewhere that I register most of it - and ignore it.

Damn, that really sucks to hear that. EP in PC NA at least seem to have some morals. I do recommend ignoring anyone making these remarks and reporting the racist, sexist, etc., stuff they say. Take screenshots. Give proof they’re as toxic as they really are. I do know that the whole ignoring people thing is the most common thing the support bots will tell you, but it legit does lower stress and whatnot in zone. I have a few caustic people on ignore, and even though I might see them in pvp, I know they can’t harrass me through chat or whispers.

Then you should know that freedom of speech doesn't include choice of platform when exercising that right. These forums nor the game is considered a public forum so freedom of speech is limited to what the company will allow. Terms of Agreement are very clear the type of speech described is not allowed. And threats of violence are rarely accepted as protected speech no matter the platform.

Enforcing the Terms of Agreement isn't censorship. Censorship would be them stopping you from saying what you want beyond just their platform.

I couldn't give you enough agrees! And @Stebarnz thank you for your service.

There is a fine line with free speech. At least in the USA, you are not guaranteed to never be offended, but when speech becomes directed and includes the threat of action you are protected from that. If someone threatens my wife or family, you'd better believe they'd end up worse for it, and I'd be protected from legal action.

The anonymity of the internet has given these true trolls a false sense of protection because 90% of the time they wouldn't have the guts to say any of that to a person's face.

Since this is a written platform and not a spoken one, just imagine I'm saying the following really, really slowly:

ZOS is not the government. It is not fascist for them to want to provide an environment where their customers feel safe and free from abuse. It is not fascist for their customers to wish for or ask for that.

No one should need to be told that.

Unfortunately it will never be economically feasible to hire gm's to monitor 30+ zones, on three different platforms, two different servers, across multiple instances, during 3 different shift changes per day. You are talking millions in labor costs because you don't want to use the options you already have. I get it hate speech sucks, but you have options.

Report, block, turn chat off, or play single player games if your that triggered by internet trolls. I understand some countries may look at this differently since they do not have a basic human right such as free speech, but you have options to avoid it.

    Greetings all,

After removing a few off-topic posts, along with a few baiting posts, we must ask that everyone keep their posts on topic, as well as civil and constructive. That being said, we would like to also add that it is rather unfortunate players can go on and say what they wish with no regard of who is offended by some of their choice words. For those, the best course of action would be to report them. Reporting a player instantly adds them to your ignore list. This also informs our support team of what is going on. If there may be any questions, please feel free to ask. We just ask that everything moving forward from here be kept civil and constructive, as well as within the guidelines of the rules we have in place. If there may be any questions in regards to the rules, please feel free to review them here.

    Thank you for your understanding,
