Ive always done new content with my main first. But I'm Looking at how fun the "Elswhere" content looks with a new class...and I'm thinking I'll shelve the main.

Do you care about your Main?
Is it time for account wide achievements?
Can you have too many skill points?

I only play on one character and would like to keep it that way. Annoying that class changes aren’t a thing though, as I’ve done way too much stuff to consider making a new main.

Starting not to care...

After all this changes over last half-year and especially at U21, I mostly lost connection to the game and don't care much about anything other then have a good laugh on ZOS.
I re-installed game today to list new items for trading for next week and exited after that.

I have twelve mains now with unlucky #13 coming soon as a necromancer; which somehow just feels right.

I get my very long days filled with adventures of all kinds from rolling into town and stealin everything on my kitty to saving Tamriel with my elven Mage...

I did make a Warden for Vvardenfell and started off with her, but for Summerset I went in with my first character and she finished the quest line before anyone else started it.

I intend to do the same with Elsweyr.

I don't think I've had a "main" since EQ.

I suffer greatly in the alt-aholic department. My character list has a couple of undeletable crafters, then a rambling assortment of toons. If I find that I haven't played one in a few months, it gets deleted, and I start a fresh new one. For me, it is the creation process that is the fun part, not clinging on to one character for years.

Sometimes i am looking a bit envious to FF14. You can do everything on 1 Char there. I like to have Alts, but it would be nice to have at least the possibility of class change.

I only have a main because of achievements. He has the majority of them so I do all new content on him. Make the achievements accountwide and I can scrap the whole idea of having a main completely.

I definitely care about my main, but I’m in the process of transitioning the designation of the “main” to a new character. Since I am an obsessive completionist, it’s taking a looooooong time...

My original main may be becoming my true main once again. Why?

He's a Breton sorcerer.
While my top Altmer sorcerer got to Undaunted 9 first, my original main is otherwise ahead, e.g. in Mages Guild, or in the wayshrines that will help with leveling Psijic if I choose to.
My original main is of course my main crafter, and indeed is one of only two characters I have that can spare the skill points to be a fully capable farmer. And the other of those is my Bosmer stamblade thief.

I love my main. Have done most content on it, have spent hundreds of hrs on it. PvP, dungeons, trials, arenas and vma

Picked other because since the shield nerfs I just can't play it. I still want to but it just sucks now and has really effected my over all enjoyment of the game

I don't have a main, all my characters across two accounts are equal individuals. They all do different content in different order. One on each account will explore Elsweyr - and they'll each be new necromancers.

I'm wholly opposed to existing achievements being made account-wide, but would be happy with a summary screen on the character selection screen showing the achievements earned across the account and would also be happy with additional special account achievements when the main character-specific achievements have been completed on the account whether by one or more characters.

I love my "main". That being said, he doesn't always end up being the one to do the content first, and that's okay with me. Each playthrough is different for each character, because they're all different, so it doesn't really matter to me who gets there "first".

I have two mains, though with next update caring about my orc more and more again, tthe three elves I have where just for fun and needed three vampires to hand out bites weekly, don't like people profiting from bites to much and like being nice and giving out bites for weres and vamps weekly when feeling well along with being on a reasonable time

Aside from a few weirdos on the character screen, I have an army of MAGBLADES! So, while I do have a magblade main, I play a variety of magblades each day.

My main has done most of the content, has the most achievement points (upper twenty- something k) and I will do as much of the new content that I can on the main.

Sometimes I will play on a magplar!

Overall, I prefer to experience the game through the magblade's toolkit. That's why I have an army of them!

I love my main ... She can kick ass if needed and is also my Master Crafter .

Having said that I did the last event on my Redguard male who has only reached level 30 and think he will become my 2nd favourite.

I have 5 more alts and they do my daily writs and only sometimes go adventuring !

I do have a main character, who is often the first to do new things, but she's doing DLC content before Cadwell's Silver and Gold so of course my alts are doing the other alliances zones and stories first. And I have some alts who were created specifically to do things she's not going to do, like alternate choices in quests and joining the Dark Brotherhood.

So my answer is it depends on the content and on what I feel like doing at the time.

Varanis Arano does a lot of content, but she's often not the "story character" I play through first. My imamgination informs a lot of the roleplay to make my own story out of the awesome questlines ESO provides.

Varanis did the Pact Questline and the Main Quest, but even though she's done Cadwell's Silver and Gold, I roleplayed that she was basically bodyguarding Emeric and Ayrenn and crushing the Worm Cult. The actual scut-work of the questing and supporting the Covenant and Dominion was done by my DC Silencer and my AD Eye of the Queen. I'll also play with the timeline - the Varanis who did Orsinium was much older and far more cynical.

Similarly, I did Summerset with three characters.

Varanis just wanted a vacation with her SO, but kept getting dragged off to solve everyone's problems.
My Silencer had just helped Divayth Fyr save the Clockwork City, so she was more than happy to murder her way through even more new and exotic locations!
My actual "Summerset Character" was an Altmer veteran of the Three Banners War who returned home from Cyrodiil and now had to save the world - loosely based off of the "Forgotten Elven Hero" from the cinematic trailers.

Elsweyr will probably get the same treatment. I haven't decided on a character concept for a necromancer yet.

Varanis certainly wants the chance to have conversation with Abnur Tharn about how he

stole the Amulet of Kings and ran off with it at the end of the Main Quest.

I love all my characters.

My Khajiit NB is my first character and I played the entire Dominion with him. He is currently in an identity crisis as I used to play ultra casually with him and now I need to make a proper build.
With my Dunmer Sorc I played through the entire EP story and am working on Cadwell's Silver to get that damned Soul Shriven motif. I played her the longest.
Her twin sister, Dunmer Templar, is my PvP main and I am slowly making my way up to Major.
After I race changed my Altmer templar tank to Imperial I really started to warm up to her. I did the thieves guild and dark brotherhood with her and even got into professional tanking a lot and did achievement runs. Tanking is fun, but also very stressful in harder content.
I made my Breton templar healer as part of a challenge to see if I can make good looking characters. Since Breton was also BiS for healers at the time and my roster was missing a healer, I started leveling her up and now she is my favorite to do achievement runs with (even though not every group wants a healer). In my experience, since Morrowind being a healer is a very laid back experience compared to being a tank.
I made my Orc DK as part of the same challenge but haven't gotten to play with her a lot. I might go back into <lvl50 PvP and try to get emperor or something at a later date. Despite being a crafter, I'd say she is my most dispensable character.
My Bosmer Warden was made because animal companions work great with Bosmer. She is probably my most fleshed out character in roleplay and has probably the highest dps of my DDs, but I lack practise with the complicated rotation and I haven't bothered discovering wayshrines so I don't get to use her as much as I'd like. Too bad Wrathstone will take an important part of her identity away...
For Summerset I made an Altmer magDK and played through the main quest, but not the Psijic order quest as it's a bit of a grind when you don't have many wayshrines unlocked. Nonetheless I like playing battlegrounds with her sometimes and plan on playing through Auridon again as it's been such a long time.

For Elsweyr I'll probably be playing my Khajiit again, but he might use one of those free name changes as his joke name doesn't feel very authentic and immersive anymore.

My main is my strongest, most well geared character. She is the only character where I try to get as many achievements as I can. I always take my main through new content first, because I may or may not do it again and I want to make sure she gets the achievements.

Do you care about your Main? Yes, I put thought into which character is my Main and when I play her.
Is it time for account wide achievements? No, having the account wide dyes, titles, etc. was good enough for me. I like the achievements separate on each character so I can track my progress.
Can you have too many skill points? No!
