How to protect guild against robbery? (ZOS wont help)

Sorry for your loss. I'm also sorry for the person who took the stuff. To steal something to get ahead in a mmo is desperate so no doubt they are also looking for such opportunities irl. What a sad existence. They are lonely & pathetic excusing their behaviour because they are owed in some way.

While there is merit to the idea that significant responsibility lies with the OP for not managing guild personnel better, IMO, stealing is stealing, and should come with consequences. Even if the objects are computerized pixels, they still represent objects of real value to real people. If there is a path to determine who is responsible (and ZOS undeniably as access to data to prove it), to turn your back and ignore it, is just dead wrong.

How did OP learn about the name changing? From ZOS? Why not just say, hey ZOS, user ABCD stole stuff from my guild. They were never a member in my guild. No one has ever let a user named ABCD into the guild nor given them access to take things out of the bank. Give us back our stuff!

This is an interesting point. If this had happened to me, my first assumption would be that I see hundreds of items being withdrawn from my bank by someone that isn't even a member. If I were to report it to ZOS, from my point of view, the bug would be that someone outside the guild somehow got access to the bank.

That's why I described that aspect above as unlikely. The OP was incredibly brief in his initial account before then criticising ZOS, and I can't help thinking that we don't really have the full story here.

I mean did you expect much from zos? Threads like this are always so telling about the community. Ya its your fault for giving people access to the bank, sure. You go into it knowing that there is a possibility you could be robbed. People get robbed by friends they have known for years ffs.

What isnt your fault is wanting to simply know who it is so you can kick them. Instead you are left with shutting the guild bank down for all of your officers or risk it happening again. This is a loophole that someone has figured out to get by the system that is in place SO YOU CAN SEE who is the person that cleaned out your bank and remove them.

If this situation is true then it should be a simple answer, zos should remove the person from your guild for you. They can see the records. If you cant see that this isnt whats supposed to happen then you're a fool.

Good luck getting help from zos though, they seem to over complicate things sometimes. But I would try to ask them to remove the person who did it, see where that gets you but dont get your hopes up.

Agree. It's really laughable people saying you can know someone by MMORPG. You barely can do that in real life, and you still will be wrong all the time. But in an online anonymous roleplay game, without any actual personal contact... I'm baffled.

That's really down to the modern method of guild recruitment by random selection based on zone chat broadcasting etc, exacerbated in the case of ESO by the ability of players to belong to multiple guilds. In earlier MMOs, guilds recruited on personal recommendation and by knowing players through being grouped with them etc, and by belonging to a single guild you had a greater sense of loyalty and commitment. It also doesn't help that the trading system here functions solely through guilds so guild banks are hugely more important than would otherwise be the case.

I'm really surprised by all the harsh responses in this thread. Yes, if someone clears out a guild bank after you gave them permission, ZOS has no responsibility. Fine. But the issue here is that the system allows someone to do it in an untraceable way, and ZOS won't help. So the person is still in the guild. So instead of accepting the error of trusting a particular person and moving on, the guild is left not even knowing who robbed them. That is completely unacceptable, IMO. ZOS should at least be able to tell them the new name or remove them from the guild.

People abuse this same ability to change usernames so easily to scam people with crown sales/purchases all the time. They go offline and quickly change their username to something else to try to prevent even being reported. ZOS needs to do better.

In this situation, a cooldown on changing usernames could have prevented it. If there were a 7-day (or even a 24-hour) cooldown on changing usernames, this person wouldn't have gotten away with it.

    __________________________Backstories:_________________________

Ras Kalik the Vestige, a renown Redguard warrior; He has been blessed to save Tamriel from Molag Bal’s destructive Planemeld while reuniting the Five Companions. His further accomplishments after defeating Molag Bal, has been to stop the destruction of Morrowind, the Clockwork City, return order to the isle of Summerset and create a new king in Wrothgar and a queen in Elsywer. These events have made him a living legend and continue to lead him into new adventures throughout Tamriel, as well as into the hearts of many ladies including the Elf Queen, Aryenn. Over many years of adventurous travels, Ras Kalik had become a loner, until he re-visited his homeland of Alik'r.

Alik'r and it's cities were overrun by the undead Ra-Netu and therefore he made an allegiance with Alik'r's own Ash'abah tribe. These Ash'abah with his help, cleansed the city of Sentinel in Alik'r desert and it's surrounding areas of the undead brought to life by the Withered Hand. After rescuing Sentinel from the undead zombies, King Fahara’jad’s personal bodyguard the Goliath of Hammerfell, who was given this name by Imperials in the region; was asked to assist the tribe after learning of the defeat of the Withered Hand to the Ash'abah. Kalik promised Goliath he would task him with fighting living enemies on the battlefield if he so desired. Goliath being a Yokudan warrior wields a massive sword in respect to the Ansei, a gift given by the Imperial, Cinan Tharn. Not many soldiers are able to wield double two handed weapons, but Goliath loves to get up and personal in a fight, so he also carries a giant maul, both weapons laced with magical flames.

Jux Blackheart is a master thief that masquerades as a Bard at the Sisters of the Sands inn, with his younger sidekick Lucky Hunch for pilfering and gambling during this time. Jux was known to infiltrate any towns bank vault he came across and even delved into Ayelid ruins without detection. Kalik can vividly recall the night he met the famed thief. Jux found himself rummaging thru a slightly inebriated Kalik’s pocket for too long, on a full-mooned night and because of his greed and the glimmer of his golden armor in the moonlight. He lost his left pinky fingertip as a lesson! But in return, he gained a new friend, as it was his first time since a child being caught red-handed...

Upon arrival back in the Alik'r after many moons of adventuring, Ras Kalik ventures to Bergama. Visiting The Winking Jackal, he runs into Jux Blackheart, who introduces him to the coin game Crowns vs Forebearers (Heads vs Tails) and Golden Dwemer (RBG).... Jux constantly takes gold from the unfortunate thru theft or gambling, his biggest gambling victim is actually his partner in crime known as Lucky Hunch the Gambler. Lucky doesn't mind losing any gold coins to Jux... as Jux saved him from Altmer slavers in Summerset, by stealing a key and sending him on a boat to the mainland years prior. Lucky spent years in slavery with Khajiits in Summerset and picked up the art of subterfuge, using illusion magic disguises and stealing there.

Kaotik Von’Daemon an outcast, and a half-caste between a Breton mother and a Redguard father. Kaotik become a pariah due to his conjuration of Daedra pets. He was taught healing magic during his childhood years by his Breton mother. His father due to Redguard customs exiled him from the desert, sending him by wagon caravan to be a soldier in the war in Cyrodiil. He happened to meet Kalik while traveling from Alik'r, during this long caravan ride the caravan he was in was ambushed in Bangkorai by a group of bandits. Kalik by chance was also traveling thru this area on his Auridon Warhorse (which was bestowed to him by his friend, Darien Gautier). During this ambush, Kalik was able to rescue five hostages from the bandits. Kaotik was the first rescued, and Ras Kalik also recruited him to be in the Ash'abah tribe. These core Ash'abah tribesmen may never be seen together in travel as they partake in their own adventures but they always know what each other is doing; as they frequent a hideout in northern Bankorai. Their hideout an old Orc castle ruin, is kept watch by Nuzhimeh and she passes messages written between them, and frequently they also enjoy her company and her bed.

The other men rescued were a Dunmer banker, an Imperial mercenary and two other soldiers, an Imperial and a Breton Knight, stating proudly he was an Akavir descendent. One of the Imperials, Cinan, claimed to be related to Abnur Tharn the Battlemage of the Imperial Elder Council (One of Ras Kalik's mentors in the Five Companions). Cinan Tharn was really Abnur's drunkard treasure hunting illegitimate son. He was caught smuggling artifacts out of the Ayleid ruins in Cyrodiil and the elder of the two Imperials was Tyrus Septim a retired Imperial navy battle-mage (now a Lycan mercenary living in the city of Rimmen) and guard to the Tharn family. As much as Abnur Tharn hated his half-sister Euraxia, he dislikes his bas†ard son Cinan more. Tyrus now a ruffian and privateer had been paid by Abnur Tharn to watch over Cinan as much as possible. Cinan Tharn a drunkard, loves to drink at least a quarter barrel of Nord mead before he raids various delves and dungeons for relics to sell on the black market. Cinan also plans to one day, run an illegal gambling ring... which he thinks will net him more gold for his wares.

The Dunmer captive shackled to the Imperials looked familiar to Kalik from his time in Morrowind.... and he recognized him as Tythis Andromo a House Telvanni slave-owner and banker from Vvardenfell. During a rough interrogation to Tythis, Ras Kalik learnt why the bandits accosted him. The racist Dunmer was providing slaves as soldiers for the Three Banner War. The bandits were trying to negotiate a lucrative ransom for Andromo and the Imperials.... Kalik did not need any of this gold and he could never set Tythis free as he did with the two Imperial soldiers. His past involvement with slavery and war crimes, made Kalik's blood boil. He chose not to execute Tythis, as he figured the worse punishment for this former rich and opulent slave owner, is to now be an imprisoned servant for Ras Kalik and the tribe.

Herzog Zwei the Genesis a reknown Imperial/Akavirri battle-mage. His roots going back to Akavir through his mother’s bloodline. (His mother is descended from the Akaviri, through Versidue-Shae, and his Imperial father met her in Hakoshae, while traveling) Herzog earned the nickname "the Genesis" from his father as a child, as he was his mother's first born child, and last, as she tragically died in child-birth.

Herzog was seeking to purchase an artifact from Cinan Tharn, before their capture and was meeting Tyrus while in Rimmen, who introduced him to Cinan. This artifact being the Ayelid artifact; the sword Sinweaver. After their rescue and the exchange of gold to Cinan for the sword he decided to slip away before Ras Kalik could question who he was, and why the Akavir descendant really wanted that sword. Herzog was headed to Nagastani — An Ayleid ruin in eastern Cyrodiil. He had read in scrolls that the Sword would give him magical powers to meet his mothers spirit, if he performed an Ayleid ritual at an old shrine hidden there. Equipped with the artifact sword, he was off to start his own adventure but Ras Kalik, did indeed notice the sword however and instead sent a letter to Jux Blackheart (whom also was interested in Ayleid treasures), to attempt to find Herzog and acquire the sword. (*Azani Blackheart in Elder Scroll's Oblivion is Jux's descendant some 747 years later)

And so the Redguard, Imperial and Akaviri men parted ways ... While Ras Kalik went off to Elsweyr to encounter the latest threat to Tamriel, with Abnur Tharn and Sai Sahan - - DRAGONS!! Little did Ras Kalik know a few people were awaiting him in Senchal besides Sai. A necromancer survived his attack on the Withered Hand, while in Alik'r. The necromancer known as Auriek Siet'ka is also following him to the land of the Khajiits and Cacique the Sage of Ius a Shaman mystic who has become attuned spiritually with Tu'whacca (a Redguard God) and Ius (the Animal God), after being burned severely by the escaped dragons in Elsywer, is awaiting his arrival also. Aurik is a soldier of the Daggerfall Covenant that was introduced to necromancy while in the military, even though this magicka art is not spoken of openly by most of the Military leaders. He came to Alik'r and worked with the Withered Hand before Ras Kalik intervened on their plans. After the defeat of the Withered Hand, he aligned with the Worm Cult, and is constantly adapting and perfecting his necromantic arts.

After his journey to Rimmen, Kalik heads south to Senchal, in the southern regions of Elyswer. This new adventure will also put him on a path to meet a strange Redguard man. The stranger which was infected with an untreated Peyrite disease and also was the exiled from the Order of the New Moon cult, due to his sickness. He originally joined the cult to worship Laatvulon, the green dragon, mistakenly thinking it was the Daedric prince Peyrite. This confused and suffering cultist is known as Tsar al-Bomba and he is on a path to spread the disease. He was originally infected in Orccrest while recruiting members there. Can Ras Kalik and the shaman Cacique cure this poor soul, only time will tell. Little does Tsar al-Bomba know, that his infection is tied to Vampirism, and eventually the desire for blood will take over his mind. Senchal also offers Kalik his latest love interest... Aeliah. Whom he fondly led thru battles with the Dragonguard.

After the trek thru the heat, tropical and desert climate of Northern and Southern Elyswer, Ras Kalik heads north to the cold mountain range of Skyrim. His companion friend Lyris beckons for him with a letter sent by crow...

Movárth Piquine - a former vampire hunter (now infected), within the Fighter's Guild (and a secretive necromancer) was in Skyrim working with the Morthaal Guard. On a patrol mission he was caught in Frewien's ice curse outside of Morthaal with the frozen undead. Movárth's vampiric infection kept him from becoming an undead minion to the curse. He was able to use necromantic ice-magic to encase himself safely until he was freed with Freiwen, when the Vestige Ras Kalik broke the curse.

Uri Ice-Heart - brother of Urfon Ice-Heart. The twin sons of Atli and Oljourn Ice-Heart. The Ice-Heart family are originally from Markarth but now reside on the Jerall Mountain range near Cyrodiil, with their younger sister Araki. The twins had joined the Winterborn Reachmen while living in Markarth. Urfon pushed west to Orsinium with the Winterborn Clan, leaving his family behind. Uri stayed behind with his parents and sister to live in the family cabin for safety, avoiding the Vampire plague infiltrating the Reach. After news reaches him and he hears of Urfon's death... Uri leaves and heads home and is seeking vengeance. Meanwhile, his sister has also moved on to Windhelm to join the Fighter's guild. He will visit his sister, once before going to seek vengeance and she will craft him armor mixed with ice, called Stalhrim armor. Uri fearing death, after his brother's passing, falls victim to the convincing talk of Movárth at a Nordic tavern, and will also becomes a vampire.

The real issue here is not that the OP was too trusting, which he was, but that Zos don't provide any useful form of audit trail.

Sorry, bottom line never give access to a player you have not known and validated to be of worthy character.

ZOS really is not to blame here. The tools are sufficient to prevent this issue.

How were the tools sufficient in this case?

OP wants to figure out who stole the items but they can't because the tools don't provide that information.

OP gave access to a thief, it is that simple. I am GM in 1 guild, a senior officer in another and an officer in a third guild. All three keep a very tight access on the guild bank and gold. It is that simple. Incovienent at times but still easy to avoid even with ESO guild tools.

And what would you do in a similar situation? It was never mentioned that the OP didn't completely trust his officers. That is an assumption. You completely trust your officers, but there is never any guarantee this won't happen to you as well. If it does happen, how do you know who took the items? Do you blame all your officers and have them all be punished because of one bad one? What if it were a hack against a player? Trust doesn't even factor in at that point. Again, it's not about someone emptying the bank. It's about someone being held responsible and the proper tools are not in place to allow this.

Honestly when you have a leadership role in life you will understand this is entirely a leadership issue.

This is not a meteor falling out of the sky thing. OP made the choice who to trust, that is the issue.

I agree it sucks but such is life.

Thank you for making assumptions about my life without knowing me at all. I do agree it's not the end of the world, but we will agree to disagree that ZOS is providing all the necessary tools to deal with the situation in this case.

I am hardly making an assumption, a leader fully understands their level of responsibility regarding the selection of those who work for them. That you prefer to lay blame on ZOS instead of accepting the unfortunate event is something that was fully under your control adaquatly informs me you have little to no real leadership expereince.

That is no pie in the sky crap I am spewing, I have been training people to be leaders for over 15 years in the utility business.

One can also search them online for background as to if they are at least real. It is actually fairly easy to establish a reasonable level of comfort as to who a person is.

It is very likely the OP knew absolutly nothing of the thief other than his in game identity AND from the post the same can be said of all the other officers who appearantly have/had full access to the guild bank. I am not trying to call the OP out, quite the contrary, once he/she understands they do have the power to manage this their gaming experience will be much better.

Skype, in person, blah blah blah. None of this means anything. You don't know the person. A certain percentage of human beings are sociopaths. They are, by definition, good at manipulating people, even in person. Such is life.

You are basically saying that even in large trade guilds with tons of work to do, the GM must always do it all and trust no one to share any of the work. I say instead that ZOS needs to develop better tools.

Actually this goes a better further then usual scamming with them changing their name to hid the theif. Just tell customer service their is error in bank history that says username doesn't exists so you don't know what happened to your items. Cause technically you are supposed to know username of who took item.

That is a nasty exploit and I feel for you. Im sure this situation is frustrating. I was in a guild that had similar issues managing it's guild bank and, in the end, most of us left the guild. The guild master was constantly recruiting and promoting and constantly getting our bank wiped by people that she promoted. I saw that as her error.
Yes, it would be nice if you could find the culprit and remove from guild. Knowing that is not an option, i would lock it up, demote all officers and be a bit more careful with your guild bank.

I made a thread with a good one liner, “ Stop Complaing About Being Scammed” all I really said is be mindful of people who scam and steal from guild banks. But more importantly it isn’t Zos job to restore your stolen items every time some gets the jump on u. What’s you take?

I bet I’m not the only one in this thread who’s scammed before or is close friends with someone who scammed.

Scrolling through this I'd have to agree that you gave them permission to do what they wished when you gave them access. And I'm not surprised ZOS won't track the name change for you as it would be wrong of them to do so. I did see one suggestion that I think should be implemented and that is a cooldown on how soon you can change your @ name. That would at least solve this scam of changing it and then changing back right away

Back on topic though, there is no way to physically steal someone’s items in this game. You have to be willing to trust another online individual to complete a deal, your own negligence is not worth Zos’s time who is busy with other projects.

    Greetings all,

After removing almost a page worth of comments, we must ask that everyone refrain from Baiting, Flaming, Trolling, and just all around disruptive behavior as each of those are violations of the rules that we have in place. Continuing such behavior can result in disciplinary action being taken. And nobody wants that. So let us just please stay on topic, and within the guidelines of the rules that we have in place.

    Thank you for your understanding,

one of my officers changed his name
    robbed all my bank
    and then changed name back

i dont know who it was also Zenimax support wont help too = they wont tell me who is the real thief, his @id
i told him @id in guild history doesnt exist anymore but only answer i got was

    2RCvn.png

its normal that Zenimax encourages robbery?

ask for ur stuff back but dont ask for the name of the person. this is a difficult case since it was ur decision to make that person an officer and give him access to ur bank. who would do that ? havin ur guildbank open for people that u dont know well is a big mistake. they cant give u the name becouse of privacy rules.

seriously tho what did u write them to get such answer. writing u "are up to the guild to decide" when ur the guild leader. a guild is a monarchy.

they also told me they will not help me to get any items or gold back

To be quite frank with you, they shouldn’t have to. You as a guild leader allowed him into your fold and due to your own negligence he/she played you. The best thing you can do is learn from your mistakes. If Zos was to restore your items, what would you do if the same thing happened again? Would you keep asking them to restore “stolen items”? Remember your not playing with someone in your neighborhood all the time, you’re playing with people you assume you know. I hope your guild takes this loss and grows stronger.

Unfortunately, when it comes to guild matters, zos will not get involved. I guess they do not want to set a precedence and having to spend hours daily managing the affairs of thousands of guilds. I have managed several guilds since 2014 and it really is a 'learn from experience' thing. Like the others have suggested, close off your guild bank and if you must, give access to just one more person that you trust the most, lets say your 2nd in-charge. That way, you know for sure that every thing that comes out of the bank will be done by either you or him/her. All the best.
