Offence can only ever be taken, never given.

Put the zone chat in its own tab and ignore it, taking on a crusade for people that most likely ignore it already seems like a poor use of time.

One important thing to keep in mind is that the people who are doing this are the ones living in fear, mainly fear of the unknown. This will haunt them and follow them everywhere in life and probably without realising it themselves. So ultimately, the "joke"'s on them.

You're not wrong, or exaggerating. I've reported people, including some who still comment on these forums, for saying things that would result In a permaban in other games. Vile homophobic and sexist stuff. Guess how much good that did? Zos doesn't take these things seriously and they're unwilling to allocate any resources towards a real gm presence.

    [Edit for bait.]

I would rather they try and force their decent view on others than the crap you are advocating being forced on others.

I'm forcing nothing on anybody, that was the point, completely free to ignore anyone.
However saying 'people forcing their decent views on others' can be taken in a whole lot of ways, as 'people' tend to think their own way is more decent than the next. (cant refer to examples or it will just be removed by forum police)
I was thinking in a broader term not just the game that is provided by a company and therefore has an eula to adhere to so it doesn't mean anything to me anymore, What people write in any chat on this game doesn't bother me.

Just announcing they are there to monitor might be enough?

If they announce their presence then all the policy breakers would shut up and either stop for the day or wait until they think the Admin left, then start right back up again. They need to be the equivalent of a Cop in an unmarked car so the perps have their guard down.

Thing is they will not know when the GM left or if he even did. They will also not know if/when the GM might return. You start by making your presence known so people become aware their actions could be monitored at any time. If players start reporting again when the GM leaves they can always go back and issue a direct warning to the ones responsible. After a couple of warnings give them a three day ban and go from there. First thing though is they would have to make it known that GMs are in the game.

What about something like what Twitch has? I notice may times when watching a streamer, I'll see [Message Deleted]. Maybe a bot does the deleting when it detects certain words, I'm not sure, but yeah. The streamer might say, "Knock it off, man" or something like that, other times, they say nothing, so I don't know if the streamer is deleting the messages or what, but perhaps something like it could be reworked into ESO.

Exactly. I'm a veteran of WoW and RIFT. I disabled all chat the minute I logged in my first girl. I also use the "offline" option when I really do not wish to be bothered at all. So far though, I've only ignored one person in-game. Though many more than that here....

That is an extraordinarily ... non-intelligent quote.

You are entitled to your opinion however but your comment is a prime example. I can choose to be offended by your response or I can choose to ignore it.

You can call me every name under the sun, attack my intelligence (or perceived lack there of) and have zero impact on my mental well being as simply put you have no power over me. I am not emotionally stunted in any way, people within or near my sphere of influence can hurt me but you cannot. That is not meant to be provocative in anyway, it is a statement of fact based upon the fact that we have no relationship whatsoever.

The "non-intelligent" quote as you so eloquently put it has helped many people deal with the unfortunate reality that there are some woefully dreadful people in this world and you can not control what they think or say. In this context it is a computer game and you have the ability to block/mute/ignore/report but in the almighty MMO usually mentioned in hushed circles often referred to "real life" that is not an option so people need the tools to deal with it. This outlook will work for some and not for others which is why there is no one answer to this.

Since reporting does naff all, I would like a GM to log in and watch chat for a week, and see the the kind of crap we have to deal with in zone chat on Vivec (EP side). We have toxic people saying homophobic, racist crap. Talking about *** women, children AND animals. Telling people they should die of AIDS and cancer.

Some of us suffer from depression and anxiety, and gaming is our escape. Even on our bad days (maybe especially so) we log in, to escape from what we have to deal with in real life. I can say from personally experience that this makes it worse, and it's publicly viewable in zonechat. In fact, during these past few days, I had to contact my own crisis team to make them aware of what I'm feeling, because of these people.

The lag and server issues are bad enough, but for me this is the final straw. I refuse to play this game if people can chat like this with no repercussions. I'm about to cancel my membership (payed since day 1) and find something else to play.

PLEASE do something about this, something that actually helps.

It's not like AD and DC are ANY better, the trick is to NOT read the chat!! I agree on that it is disgusting to read it, but you simply have to shut it down!!! Just stop crying and get a bigger pelt and i am not talking about getting into their stupid zonechat, the total oppisite!! Be the bigger person and report and ignore those "superhumans" that think they rule TESO.

After removing a few off-topic posts, along with a few baiting posts, we must ask that everyone keep their posts on topic, as well as civil and constructive. That being said, we would like to also add that it is rather unfortunate players can go on and say what they wish with no regard of who is offended by some of their choice words. For those, the best course of action would be to report them. Reporting a player instantly adds them to your ignore list. This also informs our support team of what is going on. If there may be any questions, please feel free to ask. We just ask that everything moving forward from here be kept civil and constructive, as well as within the guidelines of the rules we have in place. So we in here have to follow rules and be civil but rules doesn't seem to apply to them obnoxious teenagers in zone chat. And reporting is a waste of time because nothing will happen to them coz they bring you money in.

That isn't true though. I've reported three people who sat in zone chat almost every night for hours saying some stuff that was over the top offensive (I'm not a PC SJW so it takes quite a bit to offend me) and I reported them. It didn't take long for them to vanish from zone chat, a few days tops, and I haven't seen them back since. I do not believe they stopped of their own volition.

When you report someone, they will be put on your personal ignorelist. So you haven't seen them back but that doesn't mean ZOS has taken action.

I understand everyone else's point of view, I was in a low place and this just made it worse. I'm made of pretty strong stuff but after a truly terrible week, it just got to me. The reason I pointed out mental health issues, is because it might make some people think twice about the *** that they post.

It's hard to ignore zone chat in Cyrodiil, as it's needed tactically. Putting people on ignore works for a while, until your ignore list starts to get full, and you have to remove people. And these guys have logged on different accounts, and made it clear who they are, and get their little minions to join chat too, so it fills fast. Just because I ignore them, doesn't mean people don't see it. (Remember this game costs less than a tenner, and for PVP you don't need any DLC).

I'm not talking about the normal salty/toxic stuff people on the internet say. This stuff is obscene and literally disgusting. I'm all for 'freedom of speech', but this includes hate speech, vile obscenities and more.

My point is, it's probably the worst things you could ever come up with, being posted publicly on game, for everyone to see. And reporting isn't doing anything. It can't be difficult to have someone at least go over the chat log, when someone is reported by so many people. But they are still there, every day, after months of reporting.

Overall I absolutely love the ESO community 90% of the time. I think it's one of the friendliest and most helpful there is for MMOs.

I understand your concern for toxicity, but you must understand that there is no exact magical 'barrier' or a 'silver bullet' that will stop them from playing this game. Just report and move on, or just turn off public zone chat completely.

Ignoring is probably the way to go. Eventually all the main culprits will have been silenced, when they're all on your list. ^^

But I would not take it too seriously for a number of reasons.
Firstly there's lots of people who like to swear and make offensive statements whenever they're talking to friends. Not saying it's correct, but they don't do it to hurt others. Most of this behaviour is just the usual banter between the seasoned veterans of the zone chat (who know eachother well). They've been doing this for years now, so nobody really cares.

Secondly doing this may also be an escape for them, from their irl troubles.
Log into pvp, kill some zerglings and talk smack is a great way to vent some steam I guess. This has always been an element of pvp games, so idk...maybe try looking at it from their perspective. Again not defending their talk but I can understand it and I just don't think things will ever really change, since it's such a fundamental aspect of the game at this point.

And if it bothers you to such an extent that you need to inform your team about the distress it causes you, just mute the zone chat mate.
You're not missing anything. The only thing in vivec zone is drama, so really, there's an easy solution.

Note: There is a guy in vivec zone who is really hater by a lot of ppl because he's very prone to using CAPS and all that.
But he's legit a really nice person when you talk to him outside of zone. Doesn't matter who it is, just shows that often ppl don't mean any harm by what they say. It just comes across that way.

There needs to be some staff moderation and presence in PVP. The chat is horrific. I've seen people being told to kill themselves, racist remarks, homophobic slurs, violent threats; and while I am an adult who can just tell these idiots to shove off and give as good as I get, there are some people who can't. Wether it's because they're younger or simply do not want to engage in such aggressive interaction, and to be fair they shouldn't have to. 'Freedom of speech' is not an excuse to act like a ***.

And their friends ACTUALLY said "I'm not allowed to swear for a while, more reports will ban me".

The best thing you can do is to create a tab in your chat where you can filter out certain chats. I have one I call Silence, for days where I just don't want to chat with anyone, and I can't see their messages in chat, unless they whisper me directly.

It is strange to see that some people seem to blame the victims in this. The point here is not if people should get thicker skin. The point is dat Vivec zone chat is often really toxic and untill recently ZOS didn't intervene after reporting.

An example. Last week I saw in zone chat that people were called "***" who should "kill themselves" and so on. More people were involved and it looked like I was on a ***-platform instead of a game. It doesn;t matter if people felt offended or laughed about it. people are right to report this and ZOS should intervene after reporting.

I was happy to see this topic had use. It seems that ZOS gave warnings to several people for toxic chat.

This happens in every game, everywhere with any sort of PvP element.

Its your escapist game to get out of the real world, and to others its a chance to vent their anger in an inappropriate and offensive manor. I don't agree with what they say, but why should you dictate what is and isn't said.

Deal with it < Profanity filter < no text chat.

This is not acceptable, not even a single bit. I understand ZoS' stand, they already have a system to "fight" these kind of problems. However, the issue here is a little bit different than the usual bots and regular Jims and Beths calling each others names.

OP is talking about constant communication from different account names. Would it be so hard for a GM to appear in zone chat once in a while? I saw many GMs in game during the first days of ESO bashing bots and talking with people. I understand if ZoS changes its approach, people will ask GMs to appear for many other cases too. But is it so hard to have GMs or even some sort of player representatives checking the zone chat once in a while?

Yes, I know you can add people to ignore. If someone pisses me off enough, I do that for an hour or three. My point is, EVERYONE sees this, those new people joining Cyro, and the vets. Nobody should see what they post, and I know for a fact, these people get multiple reports against them. But they aren't even getting 2/3 day bans, they are there EVERY day. We are literally subjected to horrible chat every day. And they think it is funny.

They shut up when I call them out, but I'm not always there to defend people. Nobody should be subjected to this.

Pathetic people feed off this. Unfortunately large parts of the human race are despicable.
