Depends on what you define as endgame content. If your goal isn't to clear the absolute hardest content and be on top of the leaderboards, it's totally viable. You can wear the same sets and use the same not class bound skills as anyone else, so the only really important thing you are missing is Engulfing Flame. Apart from that it's probably just harder to sustain and survive then other classes.
You can clear content on any class and race. Just build correctly and you'll be fine. Keep in mind that competitive runs (score pushing) will not be something you'll be doing as a sorcerer tank.
Sorcerers, like any class, have their own flavor and unique thing going as a tank and Sorcerer actually has the choice to run interesting off-meta tank builds that most meta tanks do not believe in.
It's just that Sorcerer brings nothing to the group outside of the utility from abilities that any other tank uses as well. So you could say, Sorcerer is a rather selfish tank and should be built as such if you want to make use of their full potential. While there are options to replace DK chains, none of them is very flattering for a tank to use and DK passives and side effects simply can't be beaten. They are not necessary at all to be a better tank, it's just that competitive people demand them.
So it's not that DK is the only competitive option, yet it's the option that people will demand from tanks.
Auri-El is my lord,
Trinimac is my shield,
Magnus is my mind.
Yup, Sorcerer tank works fine. You just need to learn to play it and it takes some testing (and some patience from your group) to find what Works and how to overcome some difficulties.
So far done all HM pledges, vAA HM, vHRC (HM as off-tank gargoyle kiter), vSO HM, vBRP, vDSA and vCR+1 as Sorcerer tank. I am also our guilds off-tank in vAS+2 as a sorcerer (Streak is op for stacking).
Though I admit sometimes I think how much easier things were if I was on my DK
Special mentions to Fang Lair HM, vAA HM and vAS+2 where sorc tank feels actually easier than DK.
I main a sorc tank that I switch gear on when I want to do DPS. I do feel DK tank is easier as you have more room on your bar, chains returning magika when it fails to pull is superior to leash where you need to be more careful, and to top that DK has more ways to return stamina while blocking. If ZOS fixed dark deal to be instant cast with 100% of the stamina returning over time and brought the leash morph in line with chains I think it would make a lot of non DK tanks happy and perhaps encourage more people to try tanking. I think having DK being so far ahead in terms of tanking is quite unhealthy for the end game population. That said, I do enjoy sorc tanking and I wish more people would be open to it.

DDK is the Daggerfall Covenant´s last line of defense on the 30 days no-cp campaign (EU). We intend to fight epic battles in small, casual player friendly raid groups.
While I have not played a Sorc tank character, I do have a Sorc damage dealer and his survivability is very impressive because of some of the abilities available.
So I can imagine that using Tank based sets and focusing attributes and abilities accordingly, it would be very doable. Combining some key class abilities with traditional tanking ones could make for an interesting build.
A concern would be the split between magica and stamina abilities, which could prove sub optimal to say the least.
