    1. Good fights with players at or around the same skill level as me.
    2. Fun fights with more, worse players.
    3. Voice comms.

Pvp can be loads odd fun. But it also breeds TONS of nerf threads. Over the life of mmos players stopped trying to figure out counter builds and opted for the more cookie cutter pre made ones (not that the is much wrong with our) but having a bunch of ppl run the same build causes others to feel it's over powered. If players would simply go from "nerf this because it killed me" to "how can I beat this? Let me find out" then games in general would be better off. I mean look at destiny 1 it was almost ruined due to pvp nerfs to the point the weapons and skills did little in pve. It's been this way for as years, gw2,wow,lotro and eso just to name a few. As gamers we need to start thinking out side the box, and stop caring so much about this unobtainable "balance" in classes. One will always outshine another at certain ranges.

    Spot on!

If I die to something, my first thought is always "how can I survive this next time?". If I can't kill someone, my first thought is "what do I need to finish them off next time?"

Of course, excluding zergs and unkillable tanks who just farm AP at resource towers. :D

how dynamic and kinetic it is. it just doesn't become rote for me because the enemies can be of any and all skill levels, have a bazillion different builds, and pop up anywhere.

that feeling of win when a designed play/tactic succeeds in crushing the invading hordes (of humans, AI doesn't deliver the same)... it's like 'hey, I thought of that and it works?!?!!? sweeet."

plus the *fans* of my bow/bow build. I can almost see some of those DK's freaking out on the other side of the internet. Sure they kill me pretty quick, but that feeling of love and affection when they dragon leap over 10 other dudes just for me. <3:D

I'm not a pvp'er but I don't hate it either. I'm willing to try new things in the game as long as it is fun. I read from other threads that there is strength in numbers so how can a soloer like me survive there. Friends nor guilds, I don't have neither so I'll stay PVE.

It is more interesting than stale PvE fights where the combat is very predictable. In PvP fights are never the same.

The chaos. I freaking love it.

In PvE, when the boss does A, you know B will happen, and you respond the same way every time. It's a careful script that has to be learned to the letter, practiced, and perfected in order to succeed. I absolutely enjoy this aspect of the game, and I'm learning to enjoy it more and more with each level I progress to, now that I've started to focus on endgame a bit more.

In PvP, there is no reliable way to predict what will happen at any given time. A player with a high level of situational awareness can see certain things coming by watching for repeating behavior patterns or keeping an eye on the field, but players can't be counted on to do the same thing every time, and you can't see everything at once. You have to be able to respond in a nanosecond and the best players are those who are highly adaptable and quick thinkers. I love that this part of the game challenges me that much and pushes me to be even better every time. There is no skill "top-out", only more fights with more or different people in different environments with different gear/skill loadouts.

I can learn all of the rotations and have my parse down perfect, but it doesn't mean a damn if I can't adjust to my opponent's movements. While fighting near a zerg can feel repetitive at times, fighting in small groups out in the open areas is where that wild, chaotic feeling comes into play. I had to force myself off of that emp ring and into the open to find that though.

Second only to that are the people I play with. I was recruited by a small, day one, tight knit PvP guild on the first day I ventured into PvP to fight (not counting the time I accidentally wandered in and got lost for two weeks), and I've been fighting beside them ever since. Sometimes they're the reason I log on, in spite of game performance issues, to continue pushing. We're all adults and professionals in our respective fields, many with families, who just need to unwind with a little old-fashioned video game murder, and we all do it best together.

I would just like to know from you all longtime PvPers on what is it that keeps you guys going and staying in PvP in Cyrodiil; what is it so appealing about PvP to you all? (and nevermind discussing about all the crapshoots that have been plaguing PvP for years now with no sense of PvP bugs ever getting fixed or patch anytime soon; and dammit, why the hell loading screen keeps popping up while we're in the middle of combat.. goodness) To me, I have been struggling to enjoy PvP going on 4 years now into this game. Hell, my one toon that I use for PvP has been stuck on the rank of Colonel for 3 years; which, I only go into PvP sporadically. Well, I'm going to take it into this Midyear Mayhem thing and probably make the next rank; but, that's probably it. I took a new stam toon in this current Mayhem and after getting the 6th rank of Assault and unlocking Caltrops, that is it for me for awhile; probably won't take another toon into it for another few days. I still need Vigor and Caltrops for another new stam toon.

I'm not hating on PvP. Apparently, it is appealing to a lot of peeps. There are plenty of peeps in the higher ranks General and above to Grand Overlord rolling around. However, it doesn't matter what ranks or title you are, everybody dies the same in one way, shape, or form in PvP. Ok, to each their own, I rarely drink alcoholic beverages, and I have tried wine several times, and to me wine and any other alcoholic beverages are an acquired taste. To me, it is just bitter and doesn't taste good. Thus, I have never acquired the taste for wine or whatnot. Comparatively, I view PvP as an acquired taste as wine and so on. Going on four years now into ESO, and I still haven't acquire the taste for PvP. To me, it is just too damn repetitive, going sacking keeps, outposts, whatever and losing same and having to re-attack over and over again. All the while, you're killing other players and getting killed, smashing zergs and getting trampled by zergs all the same over and over again. Ok, sure, PvE is repetitive as well, but not as much as PvP. PvP is just so repetitive consecutively and continuously; this is what is not so enjoyable or appealing to me.

I'm not looking for a "maybe you should do this, do that.." No, the several years I have been in this game, I already known what I should do and shouldn't do. This is also not a rant or hating on PvP. This is me still trying to understand what the heck is so appealing about PvP for many peeps who enjoy it. Maybe you all can somehow influence me or change my view of PvP; maybe not.. Anyways, keep this civil, please..

I often go solo and I like it that way. Or else in small bomb groups.

I don’t like pvdoor, but I’ll do it to encourage PvP.

For one example; I ran to an outpost just thinking imma go put it UA just for the luls and see if anyone comes. There was one other player there and we set up 2 and 3 siege each, blew the door and wiped the guards and began to stand flags; both of ya were helping each other - no group, no cons, just looking out for each other and helping each other - then a few ep players showed up and eventually wiped us 2, but it was fun and also funny - and I like the spooks like they could come anytime! D: and hopefully we get it! But we didn’t quite, but it was fun!

I also like to just stealth in and proxy det/soul assault people in a group - for the lols

Basically, I’m the 3 stooges type of pvper; I like to make mayhem just because!

How is PvP more repetitive than PvE? Your opponents use different tactics every time versus PvE where you know exactly what the mechanics are after your first encounter.

People enjoy playing against other people, it’s as simple as that. Same reason Call of Duty is so successful. It’s just in a different format.

Not really that hard to understand. Now if your question was: why do you play PvP when there’s so much lag I would understand the question more.

You can make anything sound repetitive when you put it in such simple, general terms. See: PvE is so repetitive because all you do is talk to an NPC, go get something for an NPC, fight a group of bad guys, then return to the NPC.”

    Story time:

My Guild and I were taking a keep occupied by Reds. We were at the main gate smashing the door down when a couple reds appear from behind in the far distance. One guild member goes of to fight them to prevent them being a nuisance, but he finds out that they’r pretty good, so I go to support. Figthing 2v4 and slowly losing ground, I ask for assistance knowing if we can hold them off until the Main Gate goes down it’ll be ok.
In comes our tank, and at the same time, a zerg of reds. Our tank says to run to the main gate as the door has just fallen. Listening to her, I run back to the main gate to work on making a choke point with the guild members inside. As I look back, I see our beautiful tank literally taking the full brunt of the zerg while shouting ‘run’.. it was a full on ‘GeT To tHe ChOpPer’ moment 😂 but one I wont forget.

    R.I.P our hero tonk

P.S. we took the Fort and cleaned the reds of our boots *laughs in zergling tears*

It never appealed to me. Between having to have the perfect build and the current meta class, yeah no.

Because of the event I took an under-50 into Cryodiil and ended up running into an enemy player about my level. He attacked so I returned. I was on a StamBlade and unloaded with eight attacks in a row and his health bar literally didn't move one bit. Clearly he was properly PvP geared and he was on a DK so, yeah. Granted I probably shouldn't have been able to beat him under the circumstances but to not put the slightest dent in him with eight attacks in a row? Forget that nonsense. Out.

Content that is always hard and always interesting because you're playing against players who have access to the exact same tools as you and can react intelligently to what you're doing.

Edit: ok hard was a stretch considering... lets call it "interesting"

Exactly my thoughts. Also I always liked going online and trying to get better.

Personally I like the unpredictability of the opponents in PvP. I enjoy trials, dungeons, etc other PvE content but I ultimately fine the content pretty boring once I've completed it a couple of times and learn the mechanics. PvP is fresh every time, and even though I've sieged Beakers 1000 times over the past 5 years there is still a freshness to it as the defenders will not react the exactly the same everytime. Even the differences of running with my guild in a more organized group or running solo, I really prefer it to PvE content 100% of the time.

    Its the END game

Trials are one kind of endgame but it's static, formulaic and sequential.

PvP is dynamic, ever changing, you may beat group A in a defence position, but when tables are turned you may not stand a chance, you have to think strategically, react to what goes on not just immediately before you when fighting but to the map as a whole

It's just way more cerebral than standing in a spot doing a rotation to melt a boss that doesn't adapt to the highest potential threat before it unlike that of an enemy raid team

The people claiming pvp is repedative are not technically wrong, but are missing the point.

Sure taking nickel imdefended for the 9th time in a day is boring, but the 10th time its defended by 20 opponents makes it very different

And the 11th time its 4 coordinated players using siege to effectively makes the take impossible in your group, so you call om zone and 15 pugs come and over run the defenders.... or not and the 4 hold it long enough for their team to flank you.

It the unpredictability that makes it exciting

Wargames appeal to some and not others, I think it's just a personal taste thing. My ideal PvP experience would involve a lot of strategic creativity with a group just large enough to split up into working teams but not so large it's hard to communicate and organize, and I think assessing the enemy's abilities and figuring out what they're up to so that we could come up with a counterplan would be a lot of fun. I also just enjoy testing my skills against another person, I have a naturally competitive nature. I would absolutely love PvP under the right circumstances.

I didn't enjoy it until I got into a well organized guild which made pvp really addicting for me. I love getting in big battles, taking keeps, and really getting in a good defense battle. Seeing all the seige firing back and forth just makes it a lot of fun for me.

Plus having numbers keeps the gankers away and if they do try it if your in the back of the line just call it in discord and the whole group hunts him down for sweet revenge >:)

I don't get PvP in MMOs, especially ones like ESO.

    - PvE and PvP aren't balanced separately in this game.

    - In order to acquire PvP gear, you need to do PvE content.

    - Success is tied to level and gear, rather than player skill.

I love PvP games. I have thousands of hours in shooters and MOBAs. But I just don't get the appeal of MMO PvP. The balance is terrible and you often need to dabble in PvE to be competitive. But most importantly, those who have spent more time in the game can beat someone who has spent less time, even though they might be less skilled.

Actually ESO is the one game where i find pvp to be pretty balanced where high lvl or gear don't play much difference. At least if you play No cp like i do. That is why i play ESO. I can be a casual player in blue gear and still win fights thanks to skill and practice.

When the game is pure pvp it gets boring and repetitive pretty fast (for me) and you don't feel much progression or attachment to your character since mostly it just skins and not really built up character. And when i get tires from pvp but still want to play i can go do pve. Just pve for the sake of pve is boring for me but pve to for pvp makes it fun for me. Also open world pvp is awesome amd rare unless it is shooter.

There is nothing like holding off a much larger number of enemies in a keep defense just long enough for the cavalry to arrive and explode them, even if you do eventually die in the process. My greatest moment ever in PvP was holding the flag at Arrius with like 4 other players against 40+ enemies for a couple minutes at which point a couple raids of EP showed up and there was much rejoicing.

PVP adds an extra layer of challenge to the game. For those of us with high level characters, overland PVE content is a faceroll. You run around, killing everything in your path without taking hardly any damage at all.........it's too easy. In Cyrodiil, you run around always having the risk of encountering other players. It adds extra risk and challenge which, for me, makes it more fun and more exciting. PVP also adds spontaneity and surprise. NPC's always do the same thing. Not so with other players. Dying is no big deal, as long as you don't take it personal.

I am mostly a PVE'er but when I am feeling bored, I go to Cyrodiil where, for me, it's never boring.
