Their old QuakeCon teaser for ESO's Spellcrafting system, before it was shelved, directly showed it including all of the classic Elder Scrolls schools of magic. For example, the first time you learn a variant of the Muffle spell it unlocks the Illusion skill line for your character, or learning a variant of Oakflesh would unlock the Alteration skill line.
I feel this explains why ZOS would never add a Necromancer class, as Necromancy is just a subschool of Conjuration. If they ever do add Spellcrafting to ESO, having a necromancer class would be as redundant as having an Illusionist or other school specialist added as a separate class.

I imagine spellcrafting will be the best way to balance the classes and skill lines. And it will finally put into practice ESO’s biggest advertisment upon launch which was play as you want. Today the class roles , whether they are dps, healer, tank, are all based around the same builds with minor tweaks. To accomplish mag dps you have to run a destro staff, stam dos its always dual wield, healers are stuck with restostaffs and occasionally destro, and tanks are always sword and board and occasionally the back bar being a two hander. Spellcrafting will help to minimize the importance of classes, and help to balance overall across the board. Having custom abilities helps to customize more and add more variation. PVP will certainly be more interesting, players will need to think more analytically as they will no longer be able to just learn and research a class to get around its abilities, players will have to always be on their feet not knowing what their opponent is capable of ability wise. As of now you see what weapon your opponent is wielding and then you take into account their class and then you know what tactics to use. With spell crafting everyone will have customizble spells they can add to their arsenal to throw off their opponent.
Please comment your thoughts, i am anxious to here everyone’s thoughts.
How should it be implemented?
Should it be implemented? If so when?
Stipulations or rules attached you think should be apart of spell crafting?
Let the Devs know
Ask the class reps. The idea is officially dead.

The last unofficial news on spellcrafting were new assets added earlier this year in one of the incremental Dragon Bone patches.

You know they signed an NDA? They couldn't say anything even if they knew.
Which also makes anything they might know the opposite of "official".

Ok.... Hey Class Reps! Is this still relevant? The Twitch response from 2017?

Considering it's one of the only things left to look forward to, I don't see much more reason to keep playing if the best feature is off the table. My character has always been missing something essential (some missing buff or whatever) so if I'm never going to have a chance to fully fix him up then screw it. ZOS has stupidly underestimated how much fans want this.
Thank you, I appreciate the screenshot and information.
Due to the huge disappointment from last year when a lot of us were almost certain Spellcrafting was coming with Summerset, I have remained fairly pessimistic about everything Spellcrafting as a result. Every year, about this time of year, the thought that this might be the year keeps creeping in and I continually become excited, then, ultimately, let down. As much as I may want it, that doesn't mean they are ever going to give it to us and I have finally come to the conclusion that all I can do is lower my head and accept reality. It's probably not coming.
That said, I feel the vibe of what the class rep may have said in what you linked above has more of a "this is my opinion" feel to it, and may not be a "they've discussed this with us in detail" type of statement. But who knows. Again, there is a part of me that wants to hold onto even the smallest glimmer of hope that, indeed, this is actually the year it comes. After all, they've done all the other things they've talked about doing. It's all here now. Spellcrafting is all that's left undone. It's time.
See, there I go again...

I was worried I was the only pro-spellcrafting person. There was soooo much salt on this topic.
Ok so this was after summerset, looks like they tried it for summerset and dropped it.

I wish I could tell you that’s the case. However, it’s not.
Spellcrafting is dead. It’s been scrapped as a concept. It’s best if everyone just moves on.
