Why bother doing mechanics if you can just skip them, rotations are so simple and way easier to learn than the actual mechanics, thanks to powercreep.
If you arent completely mechanically handicapped you can pull more than enough dps, even in sub optimal setups, to burn through most mechanics nowadays.1 -

What Alcast mostly meant with his last sentence is, that builds vary from situation to situation. That is why the elite group change setups between boss fights. There is no BIS build for everything, but there is BIS for a certain situation. Sure it is not the only way, there are multiple options. I like to explore different possibilities and while I do my own research, I ask people who don't follow mainstream builds what they're using and why and what I could do better.
But more often than not I meet with an excessively aggressive and narcissistic approach from these players, refusing to give out any details and/or advice on their builds, often resorting to mocking or even bullying if "pushed" by questions. Or worse... They try to lie about their setups and tell you they use a YouTube build (even if you obviously know better) just to make you go away. Why is this?
Don't be surprised that there's ever-growing hate to be had in the community if this is the way we communicate with each other after asking for help.

I think there lies your problem. You dont want to wear the meta tank sets and dont want to provide buffs/debuffs, because other people tell you to do so. But in a serious trial guild, a group can expect you to do stuff, and if you dont, then they dont see you fitting the position. Same as in real life, if you dont to what your boss tells you, then he has every right to fire you.
As said before, decide for yourself what path you want to go and if you choose some serious trial running, then you probably need to adapt and listen to the raid leader, because he is your "boss" in that situation. Surely you can discuss stuff with him (in that part your previous raid lead failed to understand you), but in the end you need to fit the groups expectations. If you dont want to, then dont play vet trials.4 -

✭✭✭✭✭You all missing key point of all this - this thread won't happen if ice staff was not so inferior to s&b. When devs introduced ice staff it inspired some people for ice tanking and ice builds.. and when they created and honed those builds, they find that this builds are "garbage".
There were dozens of threads with simple solutions to this like additional morph to ele or changes to inner rage - but devs don't even discuss it. Pierce armor is so powerful skill so any tank without it is much weaker by default.0 -

That right there really fires me up. Like the game is wrapped around dps. If dps want more burn, they should buff themselves. Dps dont get to determine what Tanks and Healer wear.
Just because these so called competition groups have found ways to cheese a trial does not mean it the responsibility of the tank or healer to buff the group. This is nothing more than cheese.
You dont see tanks and healers asking dps to taunt a boss, or mitigate damage or heal the group
Theyre 2 other roles who are just as important.
Imo these are not competition level groups. These are cheese trial groups with dps who sacrifice 2 other roles

I will agree the ice staff is less efficient. It is certainly not weaker. The block with and ice staff on a templar or sorc is more efficient due to class and staff passives.

We really need to turn this around. I recently had some guy tell me in Cloudrest that my tank build was a trash build and I should off tank. I was on with a Sorc Magika Tank with frost staff. He mocked me while I was off mic as he said "I want to be different and not use a build from youtube" (voiced in sarcastic non masculine voice)
I was flabbergasted by the sheer stupidity of this guild leader. I then mic'ed up and asked him, "why is this a trash build?"
He responded, "how are you going to taunt when you get interrupted with staff HA?" I responded, "Um inner fire"
He then asked, "when you run out of magika?" I said "I dont because my recover is at 1800 and I have tri pots and conversion"
Then the last thing I said to him was this,
"Youre an idiot who is incapable of thinking for yourself. You should listen to how stupid you sound when you say that a "Youtube Build" is the only way to get the job done. I feel sorry for youre guild because you hold them back.
My builds are better than youtube.
They all wiped from because theyre guild could not execute downstairs correctly.

Zenimax is giving us sets to get the most out of every whole. @Checkmath already told you enough about how Trials Guilds operate in a competetive pve enviorment. Its not cheesing trials or anything, zenimax gives us this to use it. Even advertising "youtube" builds in their news articles from time to time or devs using these sets in eso live Streams cause thats how its supposed to be played on a competetive level. But sure, you say it cheesing a trial so it must be true.
If you dont want to follow Meta create your own non meta trial Guild and be the leader youself. Then you can tank with your Frost Build without anyone complaining.2 -

He then asked, "when you run out of magika?" I said "I dont because my recover is at 1800 and I have tri pots and conversion"
Then the last thing I said to him was this,
"Youre an idiot who is incapable of thinking for yourself. You should listen to how stupid you sound when you say that a "Youtube Build" is the only way to get the job done. I feel sorry for youre guild because you hold them back.
My builds are better than youtube.
They all wiped from because theyre guild could not execute downstairs correctly.
Adds everywhere. Guess whonwas still standing.
I ended it with this, I could pick you up. But Inwont tank for an idiot.

Guys, Gals, if you are going to watch youtube, please study "The where" and "The Why" something works. Analyze the build in separate elements. The builds are for illustrative purposesonly.
Not one Youtube says this is the only way.
I have seen a lot of builds from people who value theyre builds soo much, they refuse to put the build on youtube. Its okay to think for yourself. Its okay to design youre own build as long as it is effective .

The fact of the matter is, theyre more people out their who are tired of being told they have to run a Youtube Build and If you are a healer or tank, you have to wear a set to help cheese dps numbers

Why do people with unique builds think they're demigods in this game who only act superior and can't be bothered to help?
I like to explore different possibilities and while I do my own research, I ask people who don't follow mainstream builds what they're using and why and what I could do better.
But more often than not I meet with an excessively aggressive and narcissistic approach from these players, refusing to give out any details and/or advice, often resorting to mocking or even bullying if "pushed" by questions. Why is this?
Don't be surprised that there's ever-growing hate to be had in the community if this is the way we communicate with each other.

Yeah I'm not targeting you or anyone here. Just speaking in general. I've been trying to get a unique great working build for months. The freedom is why I like ESO. I just feel really bad when I get a response like "Gahahaha you bad. Go F urself scrub" after asking what the person has. /shrug
Yeah. I understand. Just know yhey are sheep and scrubs without youtube likely.
Youre build wont be nerfed like youtube builds are every patch. Plus you understand the hows and whys.

There are sooo many different ways to reach the dps, healing and tanking in this game people.
We really need to turn this around. I recently had some guy tell me in Cloudrest that my tank build was a trash build and I should off tank. I was on with a Sorc Magika Tank with frost staff.
