Ripped off on crates. Best route to take?

I successfully traded gold for crates a few times. Never had any issues.

Of course the first time someone asks for half up front, I do this. They then drop off line and block me.

I’m not too mad. I knew the risks involved and have had other successful transactions before.

I have a video and also screen shots of the deal.

How can I best report this, and, how can I get a resolution. I don’t want them to keep the gold is my main wish.

I paid 250k, half of 500k for 15 crates.

Xbox NA

Thanks for any advice.

Edit to say I wish if zos was going to allow gold for crown trades they would offer a secure way to do so.

ZOS are usually pretty good at recovering the gold for you provided that you had the deal confirmed in game chat. Usually it's a one-time-thing so you cannot be sure they will do so again.

On what platform did you arrange the deal with this creature? As in in game chat, whispers, Facebook etc?

This is what happens when ZoS does not build in a robust framework for trading that integrates crown items. Sorry for you luck man. Hopefully the scammer gets the screws put to him.
I am currently worried for the future of ESO. Population seems like it is in free fall and the cancellation of the North America in-person gathering feels very much like pulling the plug. Kudos on fixing the in-game economy though. Clearly whatever gold shenanigans were happening the last couple years are fixed.

Wait, this is allowed? Isn't this essentially gold selling?

I don’t have the direct quote from Gina on hand but it’s viewed as trading between in-game currencies, so yes

Open a support ticket and send in all the evidence.

They take scamming very seriously, regardless of which in-game items were being traded.

Ok so this happened to me a while back and I reported the GT to Customer service and started a dialogue with them. I had arranged the deal via Xbox messaging & provided all screen shots. CS told me that since this was my first ticket regarding this, they would send half of my stolen funds (which was 150k) but couldn’t do anything else as my evidence cannot be verified by their own investigations. They stress that making such transactions is basically my own risk. They did stress that any transaction you make you should have the details of said transaction in game, so in guild, group, area or whispers as they can verify it.

Essentially my advice is put a ticket in & they should help you out depending on the quality of your evidence

    Do it through Support.

I'll warn you, they will probably refund your gold, but only this once. The last few replies I've seen from people who've been scammed this way have had replies that said so.

Because of that, I'd highly suggest you find a gold2crown trade guild like Tamriel Crown Exchange and only deal through there.

Thanks. I took a video of me giving the gold to him, and him disappearing. I also took a screen shot of the messages in game back and forth. I’ll be happy to share that with customer service.

Thanks. I’ll be sure and keep the post updated. I appreciate the offer but I’m pretty well set. I just hope he loses the gold. It doesn’t kill me to lose that amount, but for someone to get it unjustly is simply wrong.

Drama between guilds was so much better when this kind of thing was not only possible but encouraged.

Video games have no consequences now. Back in the day yeah, you could get scammed... but if someone killed you they’d also get your stuff...

Courage and honor have no actual meaning when the design of the game forbids all alternatives.

There used to be a time in online gaming where Nigerian Prince scams had a tremendously terrible success rate and were considered dishonorable because of how easy they were to enact with no real threat to the scammer. They were essentially low impact volume scams and that hasn't changed outside of people falling for it more often.

Eventually, scammers in games such as Runescape, Ultima, EQ and EVE had to really play the system to build their empire if they didn't want to do it by incessantly farming 20 hours out of the day. I margin trade scammed my way to my first 10 billion ISK. Or the infamous "free ore" pod trick. SOE had to implement a loots right system specifically because people like me would loot and scoot high value, droppable items with little regard to the rest of the raiders (being one of the best freelance pullers in EQ on a PVP server also made me a very busy man).

We've removed the risk of having an ingame economy for what reason? Everyone getting loot, why? I get it, people like to have their hands held when crossing the MMO street but when we've gotten to the point where we are decrying a Nigerian scam for being morally bankrupt instead of lacking in ingenuity and , then we have hit the bottom of the RPG barrel.

Just an update. I was never contacted back from customer service, but I was randomly booted from the server and when I came back my 250k was returned. Not sure how it happened but I am thankful.

Live and learn for myself. But I still feel zos should allow some sort of secure forum for gold for crowns.

Thanks for everyone’s help on the issue.

Edit - I did get an email. Thanks support for helping me out!!
