I'd love to, and I know how easy it is to put a new card in a desktop, but I have no experience with popping one into a laptop. Haha.

May I also suggest blowing out the dust since the hardware especially CPU could be overheating and laptops tend to have *** poor ventilation...

Pretty much, daunting as it is opening laptops up, it could be worth it. Even small vibrations can loosen those ribbons, like from the fans doing overtime while gaming.

That sounds like a CPU spike. No idea exactly what causes it, but I occasionally get those while trying to run things not made to run on an integrated GPU. I suspect it's due to the CPU/GPU being on the same die and being overworked, but with an i7 processor I find that hard to believe.

I often play ESO on a laptop when I'm not home. It runs Windows 8 and has an Intel HD4000 and an i3 processor, with a paltry 8GB of ram(and another 8 of ReadyBoost ram). It's a step below what you have, but pretty similar. I'm not sure what settings you're on, but here's what I'd suggest to help with the issue:


1) Turn off shadows. Seriously, they kill GPUs. Your framerate will improve immediately.

2) Keep subsampling on Medium. Low looks like crap on all but the highest resolutions, and High will hurt your framerate with that GPU.

3) Set the game's resolution to something like 1400x1050, or a step or two higher. I wouldn't suggest going below that if you want the game to look nice, though.


Tinker around with the settings until you find one that eliminates(or reduces the frequency of) the issue and meets your performance/eye candy needs.

Worked really well for about an hour. Now its happening every time I start a fight. My drivers updated when I installed Windows 8.1, so that might be part of it. I don't want to roll back the drivers though because I'm scared that'll just put me back to the original artifacting issue.
