Now giving away murkmire free and no compensation for subscribers is totally different - dlc for free is supposed to be a perk of subscription, giving it for free to non subscribers forever is a kick in the face.

actually it isn't: buying the DLC or using ESO+ allowed us to discover Murkmire BEFORE they gave it away for free.

This is a pathetic argument. Like saying I bought a computer last week and now it's on sale so I should be refunded.

Companies do promos all the time, it doesnt give current subscribers the right to get anything free. You signed up for the subscription, if you don't like it then cancel. It's nice to get free stuff, but there's really no need for sod to give it unless they think the loss of subscriptions will hurt them.

If I buy a computer this week, and it goes on sale up to a month later, I can still go back to the store and get the price difference refunded to me or return the producted within the allowed time frame based on the store's policies and procedures.

When a company chooses to change their policies and outright state them as improvements, when in fact they are removing things of greater value and not making up for the difference; They deserve to be called out for it. I call them bait and switch tactics.

Awful statue and a reskinned spider for 3600 crowns?!? Are you kidding me?!? Is this how you are trying to make your customers feel valuable?

I don't need such "improvements". Give all that stuff as a monthly salary to the employee who came up with that idea and revert to the twice-a-year (or whatever was the frequency) crate bonus during those free trials.

Got ESO+ yesterday and it’s interesting. Also got the little Molag Statue and my character can laugh at it- still love it tho, no matter how small.

Edit: my character can laugh at how small the statue is, like Molag probably laughs at how small my character is.

I think it's an issue of expectations: a majority of players expect continued freebies and the warm fuzzies that come from regularly feeling they’re appreciated by the company they support, while ZOS expected those warm fuzzies and freebies would lead that majority of players to generate more crate revenue. I’m guessing the latter didn’t happen, and so they’ve stopped it to try other ways to get us to open our wallets. They must have enough data from prior events to know what has worked/hasn't worked to get subscribers to pay over and above ESO+.

I’ve subbed with two accounts (myself and my son) since I started playing nearly two years ago, and I was a bit disappointed when I saw the changes. I don’t buy crates because I don’t like supporting that business model, but I am guilty of loving the free ones. That said, I was really looking forward to the new subscriber benefits and exclusives, because ZOS seemed so proud of it. I was confident it would be an even better vehicle for delivering the warm fuzzies of appreciation, however when I saw the first roll-out today I laughed…at myself for making that assumption. A free mini-statue and the “perk” of being able to spend 3600 crowns instead of 4000? Really? LOL…okay. Ah well, it’s not going to change my enjoyment of the game or the value I see in subscribing, but it’ll be interesting to see how it evolves over the coming months as they see results (or not). The only certainty is that nothing will change based on me posting my disappointment and opinion here in the forums, other than me feeling better I said my .02 :p

TL/DR: I think the changes are due to ZOS feeling that we, the subscriber base, are getting more value for our money with the perks, than ZOS is earning from us or could potentially earn from us.

That's a bad example, because companies can and do refund the difference when you buy items just outside of an oncoming sale.

    ZOS is one of them.

I'd get gems to save for something that is of use.

That's far more useful than a crappy mini statue I'll never use and didn't want.

Add to that this BS PR line that ZOS has "increased the value" of the sub, despite everything pointing to the contrary, and you'll understand why some longtime subscribers are miffed.

On the contrary - I have no problem with Murkmire being free. (This needs a lot of asterisks anyway: It's only free if you manage to log in for 20 days or so this November. If you don't - and that includes everyone who didn't play this very month, including players on hiatus or future players - then Murkmire is not free.)

Taking away stuff that subscribers have come to expect because it was traditionally done for years, offering a benefit that feels worse (and is, as far as things stand now, objectively worse in terms of monetary value), and selling that as an "improvement" - that is "a kick in the face".

I got a bit sarcastic when it was confirmed that there were no free crates this time, but in the end, okay. But combined with what they're trying to peddle as "more value", I'm very much not amused.

I will admit to being less optimistic as I was in days prior about this. I'm also wondering if they shouldn't reconsider on this one just because the Chalice system is brand new and is going to need a few months to prove itself.

But ESO+ trials haven't occurred all that frequently. Clockwork Celebration is only the fourth one they've run, all three prior ones in 2018 as well.

Hmm. I mean, I may be misremembering the "for years", and event frequency in general has certainly risen a lot lately, but the first link you posted starts with "The ESO Plus Bonus Event is returning!" Does any other traveller get the feeling this is somehow a bit … desperate?

Like a sugar junkie they beg for more and more and more crowns. Needing ever more to be satisfied.

I mean how much for an ugly metal spider? This is a membership bonus yes? We are supposed to feel pleased somehow?

This one is puzzled and more than a little confused by this approach.

Well surprise surprise. Your subscriber benefit is to pay 3600 crowns.

I think its time we explore the legality of the gamble crates. Blizzard had to change their practices and many countries around the world have brought lawsuits against other game companies for gamble crates.

Yeah...3600 crowns (a measly 10% off) for a mount reskin and a small statuette for housing certainly doesn't make me feel as though my subscription has added value. It actually makes me want to grit my teeth and really work out whether I need a sub anymore.

If the ESO+ discount is only going to be 10%, make that across the board, not just an advance sale for coming items.

Perhaps at some point while waiting for the group finder to work I'll get bored enough to try and see where this free thing is.

This will be... After I killed all mobs in my area, toyed with the insects, spiders, butterflies and torchbugs, climbed onto the most random spot, complain about the long tines, get sidetracked by zone or guild chat, rekill all mobs, find a nice place to sleep underwater, empty the fishing holes, kill adds again, complain again... Perhaps then...

Why did you subscribe in the first place? There must have been something that made you sub such as the extra bank slots or maybe the crafting bag, that something is still there otherwise you would have already stopped subscribing before these new changes.

I originally started subbing for the craft bag (I think; it's been awhile). However, a lot has changed since then. Less DLC per year, non-included chapters, and a stronger push to crown store.

It seems like every crown update and every major patch comes with it more and more ways to part customers with their money. Between mount prices that are ever climbing, increasing limited time exclusives, the introduction of crown crates (and then radiant apex mounts), absolutely ludicrous crown exclusive housing, ever rarer furnishing patterns to push to buy from crown store instead, outfit slots, etc - all this serves to tell me is that even though I am a monthly subscriber (leaving my sub active even when I'm not actively playing the game) I am not a valued or target customer.

This is just another in a long line of annoyances for me when it comes to ZoS and their aggressive crown store model. What is supposed to be "added value" for ESO+ is really just a weak attempt at getting me to spend even more money.

As a non-subscriber (and therefore spending half the time in game on inventory), my reaction is that it's hard to believe they're not extending the subscriptions of paid members by a week for this promotion.

The main reason they have these promotions, I suspect, is advertising, to get more people who don't subscribe to like the experience and start subscribing.

Their getting that benefit doesn't justify everyone who pays for it seeing they're paying for almost nothing they wouldn't get without subscribing for that week.

This balancing of subscribing offering enough but not too much seems to me to make it in their interests not to upset subscribers and make them consider not subscribing, and adding a week would do that.

I'm glad they do it as a non--subscriber and look forward to a week to try the DLC I'm thinking of buying on sale.

Remember when ZoS put out a dark elk mount for 4000 crowns?

Also can we get more elk mounts? I kinda want one because I don’t have an elk mount yet, and I love deer 💕 - but no way am I paying 4,000 for a mount.
