PC players, what keybinds do you use so you can actually play?

I have one of these https://amazon.co.uk/Logitech-Gaming-Hyperion-Programmable-Buttons/dp/B00LFBEOUA which has enough buttons but not too many and my 1-5 skills are mapped to this. Scroll wheel is weapon swap and Ulti is now on 6 as I kept accidentally hitting R.

It's taken a while to work out the best confuguration for me, and you'll get a ton of options from different people, so you need ot experiement till you find what works for you.

WASD and 1-5. I do have roll dodge set to a side mouse button as well as bash/interrupt/breakfree. I know some players bind all skills to mouse buttons so that they don’t have to stop moving ever. But that’s more a PvP thing. It’s more jsut about what works for you.

I use Naga Hex V2 gaming mouse, and I'm not sure I'd manage to do without by now. ^^ It has seven buttons arranged in a circle and a rubber pad in the middle to rest the thumb cushion on - I mapped five skills, ultimate and synergy there. It's theoretically a mouse designed for MOBAs, but it maps neatly onto ESO skill bar.

I'm making a push through VMA, but what has always bothered me about playing with the keyboard, is making VMA more difficult than it should be.

I'm using the stock keybinds, the AWSD movement keys and 1-5 buttons for skills. I did rebind weapon switch to the middle mouse button, but I'd rather have two separate buttons for switching.

The problem with this setup is that depending on how you are moving, you cant hit skill buttons. Moving left? You cant hit skills 1 or 2. Moving right? Can't hit buttons 4 or 5. Forward? Buttons 2 and 3 are off limits.

You elite PC players, do you have a special binding that works, or are you using a gaming controller or mouse? When I watch videos of good players, I don't see any of the hinky movement and skill restrictions that I'm dealing with.

I have a Logitech G300s mouse. It has two extra buttons on each side of the mouse. I use the left front one for switching to bar 1, and the right front for bar 2. Left rear is sneak and i dont remember what right rear is, I never use it. I left the mouse wheel and wheel button as is. There are two buttons behind the mouse wheel. I use the first one for synergys. I think the other one i have tied to ultimate but its hard to reach so I just use 6 on the keyboard. I have caps lock, shift, and L Ctrl all tied to roll dodge. double tapping is crap. All I have to do is drop my pinkie finger on the keyboard and I roll dodge.

I'm flummoxed by the OP's issues as well. But I do have a Logitech 300 series mouse myself. What I do includes:
    • Front left button for bar swap. I feel one bar-swap button is plenty.
    • Front right button for synergy/other "x"-key grabbing.
    • One of the awkward center buttons used for ESC
    • One of the awkward center buttons reserved for cycling between the three "programs" the mouse can have.
    • One of the awkward center buttons unusued.
    • Ultimate rebound to the 6 key.
    • Low frequency/out-of-combat choices bound to whatever keys. (E.g. invoke a report from the Combat Metrics add-on, or dismiss pets via the PetDismiss add-o.)

As for the back extra buttons on the mouse, in one of two programs I have one set to hide/unhide, with the other unused. In the other I have them set to left and right strafe, but I always forget to use those.

Clearly, I could do a lot better.

Been running for a long time on QWES (left forward right back, in the order of letters) after getting fed up with cursor keys in some other MMORPG once and finding WASD rather clunky and uncomfortable. Works like a charm for me ever since, together with the mouse to point / look around.
Abilities are on 1-6, synergy activation on TAB. Jumping is SPACE, sneaking on N. After a bit of practice, works great and intuitive (for me at least) although a gamepad mode might probably give even better movement freedom.

This is actually a pretty good idea. The fingers don't have to move as far to the 1-5 buttons and are less likely to miss.

I use pretty much default keyboard settings... did rebind my synergy to "T" instead of "X" (it's also bound to my middle mouse button) I've changed the menu keys but that doesn't matter for combat.

I use the free keyboard Dell gave me with my PC. It works just fine.

I'm right handed. I have remapped all the combat-time keys to the number pad and the Home-End block of 6 keys. This enables me to shove the keyboard over to the left hand side of my desk so that it doesn't get in the way of my mouse.

I also find it easier to have the keys in straight columns, rather than each row horizontally offset from the rows above and below. The keys are much easier for my fingers to find like that.

The key layout is pretty much the same one I have used since TESIII, so my fingers are very well trained on it. Muscle memory is a wonderful thing. I can trust my fingers to do the right thing without me having to think about it all.

The only button on my mouse that I have re-assigned is a button right next to my thumb. I usually use that for synergy, but, depending on the build, I might have repentance or an execute on there instead.

    I don't use any macros or add-ons.

Ex-console player here, used to play ESO for three years on xbox. A gaming mouse will really simplify things. I am using the Razer Naga Hex v2, which comes with 7 thumb buttons and an amazing right and left push function of the scroll wheel, which is particularly useful for bar swapping. Took me about 30-45 days to get used to it, and I had never played anything else on PC before.

On the 7 thumb buttons are my ablities, ultimate and potion, on the wheel I have bar swap and dodge roll, and everything else is on the keyboard. That includes WASD movement, F for cc break / bash, space for jumping, shift for sprint, caps lock for roll dodge, R for synergy and Q for tab-targeting.

I use the default layout for the common things (WASD, 1-5, R for ulti, the key left to the 1 for weapon swap, Q for potions).
I have switched E and Space, though - I jump with E and activate stuff with Space.
My mouse has 5 buttons, where MB3 is bash, MB4 is roll dodge, MB5 is synergy.
C is automove, V is character screen, B is first person view.
The rest is default, I think.

Have a Razer Trinity mouse with the 3 different type of magnetic side plates. Very bad. I don't have big hands but those buttons are joke. Tiny, can't even reach the back buttons. Was thinking the other day to plug in again they might have fixed the software which always lost the profiles I set up.

If you are about to buy a MOBA/MMO mouse I recommend try them before you buy. My Razer cost me 90 pounds nearly and collecting dust. And just let you know you need a lot of time to get used to the remapped keybinds. Plus I thought the keys on the mouse will free up some keys on the keyboard well not. Basically they use the same keys so you have them on both. And almost forgot that the Razer is so light and cheap quality I was really wondering how a big company like Razer can sell something like that. Went back to my Corsair Sniper mouse.

Anyway vMA is not that hard to clear with a standard setup.

Alot of people recommend razer Naga mice here but as I've had three of them I would caution you a few things about this option:

    1) it's like learning how to play all over again, so if you buy the mouse be in it for the long haul

    2) there are a lot of tiny buttons that are easy to misclick

    3) if you have small hands this mouse is not for you. My small hands can't reach the top row of buttons and I actually repeatedly crack the left click because of the stress of where my finger lands.

After my third mouse broke and I ran out of warranty replacements I moved to a Logitech which is working great.

For my binds I myself couldn't ever make myself use exclusively mouse buttons for my skills so I still use 1-5, but my weapon swap is on my mouse. I find it quite easy to move while hitting my skills by angling my fingers between the two rows of keys.

It has six large side buttons that are easy to feel the position of, its basically impossible to misclick unless you're panicking. I use the side buttons for abilities and weapon swap. I left the rest of my keybindings as default.

    1-5: Abilities
    Q: Utilmate
    F: Potions
    E: Interact
    G: Interact with players
Tab: Synergy (<- as a tank, it's so useful)

    Right Click: Block
    Left + Right Click: Bash
Mouse side button 1: Bar Swap
Mouse side button 2: Roll Dodg

I rebound bash (B) and weapon swap (button 2 on my MOBA mouse -- MMO mice have way too many buttons for me; I own one but have been hesitant to actually start using it).

I also rebound G, C, and V to the number pad because accidentally opening the character screen/guild interface/inventory while in combat has proven to be bad for my character's health.

    Everything else is default.

I'm right-handed, and have been playing computer RPGs since 1985. I settled over time on Up, Down, Left, Right for movement, and ASDFGHWERTZXCV for attacks. However, of course - over the years I've had to pare down the number of keys for attacks because of the way games tend to use some of them for "other important stuff".

In ESO, I use Up, Down, Left, Right for movement, and ASDWX for attacks - this is the only game I've EVER played which allows only 5 attack keybinds. No, I'm not including the swap bar, because due to my redping badlag, I almost never get to use the other bar!

I do not change the keys per girl either - that way I never blow an attack (which after all may be the only thing that fires at any given point....)

I use the standard default Key binds for everything except the Quick Slot. I use Greymind's for that so I can select a different Pot instantly assigned to a Function key. Other than that everything is default. Oh, one thing I did change on my Logitech G502 Mouse is assign the Middle Mouse button to be the Synergy button. This has helped immensely. I don't have to use my left hand to activate a Synergy. Comes in real handy when Tanking and when falling through the Portal in Imperial City Prison dungeon final boss fight.

I do have a gaming mouse (Logitech G502 Proteus Core), but I don't have any of the buttons mapped for this game.

I do make use of my Logitech G11 keyboard, though.

    Au1BTXk.png

This set-up keeps most of the most frequently-used buttons within very easy reach of my fingers, without moving my hand.
I also have some of my add-ons hot-keyed.

There is one shortfall; I don't have the 'D' key mapped to the G11 number pad, so I have to make do with moving forward, back, and left. I have the Spacebar mapped (for jumping) to where the 'D' key would logically be, in relation to where I have the other keys set.

I've gotten so used to having the keys for my games mapped to this keyboard, I'm gonna be hurtin' when it dies, if I can't find a similar keyboard to take its place.
