Launcher Freezing up with 10/29 patch

When I start the launcher the UI freezes. It eats 22% of my CPU and starts to take more and more ran until it finally closes with no message. Anybody else have this problem and know a solution? This is the first time I've ever had any problems with ESO since beta.

Where do I put the files once I download them? I was able to start the download without issue.

I believe the location was \Zenimax Online\The Elder Scrolls Online\depot\patchdata.depot . You might have to do it a few times as there's usually multiple files. I just go the vpn route as it's less of a pia.

You can read about the last time it happened (at least to me) here

I ended up starting the launcher and as soon as the UI loaded I pulled my network cable. This prevented the download attempts. I was then able to disable the auto update in settings. I restarted the launcher and did a repair instead of update. That fixed it for me.

Maybe it's because you've fallen out of phase with this timeline and are stuck in August?

You're not alone, I've gotten 23%, then it shows "DOWNLOAD STALL" and closes down. I'm at a loss.

Looking at the logs I have this spammed. Almost half a GB of these. Looks like ZOS have something wrong on their end.

    That'll getcha every time. :D

On the serious side, though, I didn't have that problem when I logged-in after the patch.
But the load-screen between entering my password and landing on the Character Select screen was about four times as long.

I can't. When I try to it wants me to login again and sends me a new IP code. But when I enter the code it always fails. I tried with the space in the middle and without.

It's happened before. You can either use the links in the log to download each individual patch file or you can hop on a vpn and then run the launcher again.

I downloaded it and put it in the \depot\patchdata.depot\ directory (clearing out the partials first) and that worked for the first file. Now just have to repeat for the others

    OKAY enough is enough

I have read all the post from 9/4/18 when others were having problems, it seems ZOS is aware of the problem. I first need to state that I'm NOT an IT Wiz. After try most of the solutions, reload the game and the launcher twice, and restoring my system after I screwed it up. I put in a ticket of course that was not easy (As if they don't want you too). How do you attach the "Game Consultant File" at 58mb into a 10mb space. Even reviewing the Troubleshooting Guide, boy did that left a bad taste in my mouth. Dev stated that it was an ISP problem, well I had fun for 2 hours with Verizon IT department telling me that it is not on there end. It good being an ESO Plus member. So where do we go from here, sure don't want to call my ex-husband for help.

It's not a network problem because it can be downloaded manually. I'm assuming the launcher keeps a list of IP addresses that it can use to make the download. And that is why the launcher itself rejects it. It must be a configuration thing. Which is understandable. However the launcher doesn't handle this misconfiguration well with no way to self recover by itself.

Try a VPN and see if it downloads. My launcher patches ALWAYS get stuck unless I have a VPN.

I am a new player and VERIZON FIOS user, I had this problem 4 days ago when I tried to install and play the original game, had problems with patches as well. I started a support ticket and was told to try a VPN.

WIth a VPN the issue was resolved immediately.

I understand this is not an issue with VERIZON and a well known issue for the game installer/patcher. I don't need the VPN between patches, only if the client needs to install or patch.

I used "ExpressVPN" but there is a monthly cost. People have had less success with the free ones. Try to find one that has a 30 day free trial. Use it and hopefully the issue will have been fixed by then.

    Hi, @Emma_Muaji

I would just like to add that I've had luck with the Windscribe VPN. https://windscribe.com/ It's free. I'd try that before dealing with the attachment.

I started having this issue a few weeks after people started reporting it and do have Verizon FIOS.

Also I have had to do this with the last few updates so if it works for you, keep it installed!
My #1 wish for ESO Today: Decouple achievements from character progress and tracking.

Same error, launcher stuck at 9%. Last time this happened I had to re-install the game. Not playing or reinstalling till ZOS fixes the launcher.

I gotta say, I was a bit skeptical about the need to install a VPN just for this. But installing Windscribe fixed the issue for me too! It is free and was super easy to downoad/install and the patch finally was able to finish within minutes! Save yourself the frustration and install a VPN (which is also good for better internet security/privacy as a bonus).
