Argonian females have breasts???

Trappeur

I have been playing ESO for quite a while (from day one, actually!) and I have just noticed something: female Argonians have breasts! Natural evolution would never allow that, unless Argonians have mutated from amphibians to mammals!

What are your thoughts on that?

My theory is that they are not actually breasts, in the mammalian sense. However, none of the females seem willing to let me investigate more closely. Maybe I am wrong.

They do lay eggs, that we know. But maybe after the lizard baby hatches, the mother breast feeds? It's not very common, but we do have at least two examples of that happening IRL?

This is also something that has bothered and baffled me for the longest time. Only thing I can think of is the hist gave them boobs to help increase the success rate of finding gainful employment as maids.

Maybe Argonian maids are actually hist booby-traps? :p;):D

More seriously tho, I always assumed they have those deligfhtful chest bumps because the hist created them after the template of the other sentient races that were around in eras long past, and thus included things that may not be of any use to lizards, simply because the races they uplifted those lizards to match had them...

I miss TES3's Argonians... I also wish there was a negative side to the boob slider so I could create a female Argonian with a flat chest--especially with the new lore Murkmire added. Makes even less sense for them to have tiddies lol.

Nature is a complex mother. Argonians are more amphibious in nature than reptile, as they can exist in freezing temperatures without having a heat lamp for a hat.

Beyond that, you are bringing real world physiology to a video game, which unless some kind of teaching tool, is invariably going to cause issues.

We can shoot fireballs out of our hands, there are bipedal cats and "lizards", we store thousands of kilograms of weight in a very small bag.

This game would be very, very boring if we started to apply real world constraints for it.

Would you ever pvp if you had one life? Hell no, you would barely leave town.

One of those things that you have to seperate yourself from reality to accept things as they are presented
Tl;dr really weigh the fun you have in game vs the business practices you are supporting.

Creatively, it sounds good, and ties in well with TheShadowScout thoughts and those of BigBragg, as referenced by The YKcid.

However, I am inclined to agree more with Itacira; the developers still maintain a visual male-female difference, regardless of race.

    Cheers, all.

I'm in agreement with the theory that the Hist simply made them like that to adapt to living with Men/Mer. Functionally useless, but it help other races tell them apart and makes the Argonians look less animalistic.

This is why i dont like argonians. Not because of the breasts, but because they are humans with tails. Just give em a more beast like body.

This topic came up pretty often in TES3 and TES5 discussions. As far as we know from devs' talk, they're pretty happy to keep argonians as egg-layers with breasts. For mystery, for further TES intrigues, for the sake of "typical Elder Scrolls weirdness" or simply as neverending forum discussion topic.

This. The game is made by humans, for humans. The artists will use standard human pattern-recognition cues to keep things easily recognizable.

I.e, "female" things will have standard human "female" traits, to make them easier to recognize as "female" for human players with human brains. Even if they're lizards, or cats, or whatever.

(also part of the explanation for "boob plate" armor, even as the 'realism' crowd cries about the bad physics of it. While ignoring the bad physics of people wearing fur or metal armor not having severe issues with being covered in hot flames. Or the bad physics of human-sized things being struck with giant clubs or other things that would impart so much force that armor would be meaningless.)

That always bothered me too, just like ‘female’ Transformers always had boobs to...nurse their robot young?

To deal with it I personally made my Argonian female as flat as possible. I tend to agree with those who view it as human-centric interpretation to make them more relatable/recognizable to other humans.

Argonians aren't lizards, they're a fantasy race in TES called argonians that look like lizards. Imo it's not weird in that case that they have breasts like the other basic races

No mutation Argonians can lay eggs or give love birth when in Black Marsh this is not a problem but when outside of Black the baby needs to find a source Hist sap. All Argonians need it at birth and those that don’t go crazy or die.

While mammalian breast create milk for their offspring, Argonian female consume excess Hist sap can store it for their offspring. If the female is outside of Black Marsh with no Hist Tree she will live birth and let the baby lick the sap (Argonian mounts can’t suck like suck). If inside Black Marsh or near a Hist Tree they will lay eggs in a pool of Hist sap for the egg to absorb.

Female Argonian have to be ready for both so they store up extra when they can.

    Why Do Argonians Have Breasts?

    Why Do Khajiit Have Breasts?

He also made theory videos for the Zora and Inklings/Octolings on the same subject if anyone is a fan of the Zelda and Splatoon franchises. Enjoy!

    Well, yeah.
    Duh.
That is the "out of character" reason.
Same reason why Khajiit females only have two breasts when a case could be made for more considering other felines, yes?
Though I am certain there is a huge pile of "resource management" in there was well, namely... not wanting to make different character body mesh models for lizards and kitties. So they use the "standard" one, and that comes with boobies for the girls.

    Hey, that one's a classic!
    metropolis-maria-robot-animated-gif.gif
But yeah, this brings us back to the RL gender characteristics stating "female haz boobies!" and designers using the "chest bumbs" shtick to identify anything from robots to aliens to lizards as "female" to the audience. (often with additions of skirts and the color pink... to complete the cliché)

In Morrowind, the female Argonians had no breasts or other “human” ways of determining sex. The females had more feminine decoration, small horns or light jewelry. So the face was detailed and easily showed sex.

It was not until Oblivion until the beast races walked like normal humans instead of on their toes like in Morrowind and they got human like physique. Probably due to budgetary reasons and they skipped the difference in skeletal en movement properties.
