I did say "just about".

If they were really cheap they would just create an alien that has transcended its physical form to become nothing more than a semitransparent floating head (back to that bias again). Yes I remember Star Trek and the dikironium cloud which is why I avoid red shirts to this day. There are always exceptions.

Banana is quite right: fantasy. Specifically, that the games still cater mostly to conventional male sexual fantasy -- which is why all the women are sexy, and all the men are super-buff.

I really respected the GW2 developer who pushed back on Charr breasts -- their Khajjit equivalent cat race -- insisting on zero (visible) or eight. They went with zero, which was TBH great. Ditto their lizard-ish Asura, who also got no mammal external sexual characteristics.

...but, hey, at least they didn't invest heavily in "boob jiggle" physics like a whole lotta games do.

Hat tip to the third party developers who carefully added "I have never seen a naked person in my life" physics to Skyrim.

The real answer is that the designers wanted an easy way to show if an argonian is female or male.

My in game biology theory is that they aren’t actually mammary glands, since male argonians don’t have ***. They are likely just a way to visually distinguish between male and female life phases, so an argonian has a simple visual queue to know if they and their partner can produce fertile eggs at a given time.

EDIT: apparently the word for the nubbins mammals have to secrete milk is considered profanity?

To be fair, the female sexual fantasy is usually super buff men. You won't see many girls fawning over scrawny book nerds. Why do you think there's such a cult following for "My dashing Hero" Darien.

Its also actually possible to make your female Khajiit and Argonians flat as a board if you shove the chest slider all the way to the left. I've thought about doing that to make my girls more immersive...but i like the things too much.

Eh, Arch - I must be the total antithesis of that. Of course now at my age I don't have "sexual fantasies", but back when I was in my 20s and 30s (yeah LONG time back now) the sexiest thing about any guy was first, his mind, and second, his car. Mostly the car was a very distant second, since I drove sports cars myself.... But the mind.... that was the main thing....

In older games Argonian females had to have breasts or wear male clothing as the breasts was part of clothing and armor and making an special version only for argonian females would be to much work.

This is not an problem in newer games as you can scale body parts but then Argonian females would suddenly loose their breasts.

Honestly the size of the eggs is more problematic, they are gigantic, imagine hatching one of them

I mean, human males have *** (lol n i p p l e s gets starred out). Why? We even have mammary tissue, it just doesn't develop much due to a lack of estrogen and progesterone. But it could and does in the right circumstances.

Breasts on female Argonians is only mildly strange to me. And is fully explained by the fact that the Hist created them and used other races as a template.

Pratical reasons, so they don't have to design new models of all clothes styles for all races. Which is why Argonians and Khajiits don't have the feet/paw/raptor claw that they should have. It's pretty sad in my opinion as race diversity was always a great feature in ES.
