Dizzy swing completely broken

ZOS, with the Murkmire patch, dizzy swing is now completely unreliable and broken. It was always a challenge to reliably it this ability, especially in lag and against mobile opponents that circle around you. Right now though, it is completely broken. And I think this has to do with what you changed in the aiming system, to make templar jabs hit more reliably.

You can test this on any mob, player or dummy. Try 3 different things:
1. Stand still in front of the dummy, and cast dizzy swing, while aiming at the dummy. It will will not cancel.
2. Use dizzy swing while moving backwards and forwards, aiming at the dummy. It will not cancel.
3. Use dizzy swing while circling around the dummy, while trying to aim at the dummy. You will notice that it will sometimes cancel.

When I repeatedly tested scenario 3, I found out that the moment you take your reticule off the target just one tiny bit, the animation will cancel. This practically makes dizzy swing useless for pvp where the target will be moving around, and through you, and where you will be snared very often. This was always a problem, but with this change to the aiming system or w/e it was that you did, it just doesn't work at all anymore.

What I often used to do to force a hit on dizzy swing was activate dizzy swing, move through/past the opponent, turn around and hit your opponent while moving towards him. This now isn't possible anymore because by moving through/past the opponent your reticule will be off the target for a fraction of a sec. It is unrealistic to be able to keep the reticule on target 100% of the time in a pvp battle. I can guarantee you the skill will be useless if it stays like this.

@ZOS_GinaBruno can you please bring this issue to the attention of the devs? Dizzy swing always was a very unreliable ability as it was, and it took skill and coördination to land it. Please don't let this playstyle stay in this broken state.

EDIT: Just tried it in a duel and it is impossible to land a hit. Well done ZOS!!

    Not everyone uses it to gank. I use it as a 40m dizzy swing with major defile.

    Trust me, you will miss 90% of your dizzies while in melee range. If this is not fixed than ZOS just killed an entire playstyle.

    Like for real are you surprised? This is what zos does. If your play style gets kills and people moan about it they will kill your build and play style. This is what happens when groups of troll builds are given wins. Just like disorienting spear. They took it away because many people couldn’t handle the stun. But you know keep talon stun spam and rune prison.

    high skill high reward, the damage higher than DBoS initial hit, it used for super burst scenario before enemy can't react to its stun.
    you need to take the pace of the battle to control enemy movement and find perfect moment to burst, except they intend to escape or flee from you.

    but, yeah i agree with you, sometime it cant even land on pve trash, just improve the abillity consistency but keep the outplay same as now.
    do not make it too consistent and make it too easy to hit a good juking player.

    You mean you don’t think you should be hit with a friggn archer from up above? Snipers are a big part of warfare. Don’t be a fool. Suck it up. Lethal arrow and snipe are fine. Don’t be that guy who runs up to the gates of Troy and thinks they can roll dodge thru the hail of arrows.

    Dizzy Swing will cancel frequently while circling an opponent. It has been this way for a long time. Has been this way since I started using it.

    The original requirement for targeting Dizzying (and other cast-times) was two line-of-sight (LOS) checks, during which your reticule must be on your target:
    1. When initially casting the ability
    2. When the cast-time completes

    Meeting these two checks resulted in the ability successfully firing, and was already very challenging due to targets constantly running behind LOS, cloaking, or simply darting in and out of your reticule.

    This new behavior is going to make the skill almost unusable and needs to be reverted ASAP.

    I was thinking about this as well, and I think it is an accurate assessment. There is no in between right now, and reticule needs to stay on target at all times.

    I do agree with the above assessment of DS. If they added a new LOS check in the middle of the channel it will make it much harder to land.

    Are all channeled abilities now affected by this new targeting system or is it just DS?

    Would it be an improvement if they made it so that if you tab target someone, and you're within melee range, your character automatically turns towards and hits the person targeted...?

    Well I was looking forward to going into pvp to see the changes soon but seeing this almost guarantees that I'm going to have big problems. I'm stam dk and still trying to get used to switching to a stam build, and trying to land this skill has been one of my biggest issues.

    The other thing is that one of the worst skills I have problems with is templar jabs, and the op wrote that they tried to make them easier to land? Yeah looks like I've basically had it with my current build (or maybe as stam dk full stop) if it stays like this. I'm not even whining, I'll simply have to try something else out because there's no way I can play like I am if swing is even harder to land.

    The other thing is that even if they "fix" the problem it still might be worse than before. The only thing I can think of to do is put critical rush or venomous claw on my bar instead and try to learn how to start wearing down the opponent without burst.

    edit : I suppose I shouldn't let it bother me that much, swing is a seriously needed skill for a lot of stam builds, surely they're going to fix it because if not we could be about to see a level of complaining similar to the sorc shield nerf. At the same time though they didn't full revert shields, so maybe they won't fully fix swing either. Anyway will probably just change skills for the time being.

    FInally sortof figured out what was going on right as servers were going down. Initiate snipe on a target, if your reticle moves off the target even for a fraction of a second it cancels itself. Makes hitting a moving target very tricky.
