Why put a different timer on dremora skulls then normal world events?

So, 12 players are on 12 different Dremora skull timers. All 12 spend a ton of time grinding through a trial, and only 7 get the skull.

Who thought this would be a good idea?

Poore greedy ZoS too scared to give you adequate daily reset, because they are counting every single skull you riped from their flesh. Dat stupid 20h system guaranteed some people will miss some amount of skulls anyway.

Yes because not many people are going to stay up all night missing sleep to get those odd hour refreshes. My guess is the 20 hr timer is actually a nerf, because people will usually be awake at the same time of day and remember when the 24 hour timer resets, but with 20 hour timers depending on human documentation to track, plus the rotation causing several resets to occur when people are sleeping/not playing, means there will be less objective fulfillment after all.

what was the point of the timer? limit motif proliferation?

One thing I will say about Final Fantasy XIV is anything on a timer had an entry under the timers tab of the UI. It would be nice to have something similar in this game especially for newer folks like myself who might not even be aware of the various timers. However it seems to me ZOS went the route of having the user community do most of the UI work via addons rather than provide many that I would consider basic functions of a game. While user addons are nice they also allow ZOS to justify lower development dollars as they can always say the player base will eventually do the work for them.
what was the point of the timer? limit motif proliferation?

If that was their rationale they failed. I've been buying event motifs I'm missing for anywhere between 500 and 5K gold with what appears to be no shortage of sellers.

If there was a large cluster of players on the boss, that's your problem. Only the top 12 damage dealers get credit and a drop. If you have 20 some players working over the same enemy, it's entirely possible you won't get a drop (in this case no Plunder Skull, and no Ticket.)

You can get credit for a boss kill if you do enough healing as well. I wonder if healers are in addition to the top 12 dps, or if the top 12 is made up of both dps and healers.

This should be fixed with Mondays patch for PC, ZOS is making the timers a daily event I believe I read that it was going to be the same as the crafting writ reset times.

Is it certain that all of the Dremora timers will be changed this way with Monday's patch, or just the Event Ticket timer? That's a bit of a subtle line to draw in the sand, but if you read the patch notes, it specifies the timer for the quests that generate event tickets will refresh their ability to grant event tickets, not specifically the dremora timers, although it's the dremora skulls that generate the event ticket so who knows? I've read it several times and still can't work out the mechanics on whether it means all dremora skulls or just the ticket...

hmmmmm....starting today, i'm having the same issue with WB Dremora skulls...I've gone back & forth with support a couple times, and I'm still not convinced that they understand my issue. They keep telling me how it works, and I have to reply to them that, yeah I understood from the beginning that that's how it's supposed to work, but that's not how it is working...<sigh>

Do you mean dremora or no purple skulls either? The Public dungeon boss dremora skull is shared with overland quest bosses. You get it at one or the other but not both.

There is also a 3 minute timer for the regular purple skulls and in public dungeons it's easy to not get one from a boss due to that timer. But if you're not getting them from any public dungeon bosses, that's definitely a bug.

There is a work around fo this. Just make sure the first skull you get is from a random dungeon.

The reason being, they are also on a 20hour cooldown for premium rewards.

So as long as that is first and all others are after, when you log in, if the random queue is purple, you good. If its blue its too soon.
Tl;dr really weigh the fun you have in game vs the business practices you are supporting.

@OrdoHermetica SAME HERE!! Are you on PS4 NA? Is this a ZOS bug? I wrote down all my times from yesterday and got every other Dremora skull without a problem. Imagine my surprise when I killed that first public dungeon boss and didn't see the yellow skull. Uh... what? I'm positive I was supposed to get one. I killed a couple more and even tried it in another public dungeon later. Nope. I did not get a public dungeon skull today.

Where did you find this out? That could explain why we aren't getting purples from pub dung bosses. They expect us to stand around in front of a boss with a stopwatch in our hand to time the start of the fight? And hope some other group doesn't run in and start fighting it?

For the 2016 and 2017 festivals, all bosses had a 3-minute cooldown for Plunder Skulls. They removed that cooldown for this year's festival. But there are some places where that cooldown still exists, such as public dungeons. However, some bosses in public dungeons, like those in the Rivenspire public dungeon, don't have cooldowns.

It's an inconsistent mess. And it's not clear yet at this point what is intended. Was the removal of the 3-minute cooldown this year an intended change? Or is it a bug? Is it a bug that some public dungeon bosses have no cooldown? Or is it a bug that some public dungeon bosses do have a cooldown?

actually, what I firmly believe, as I've experienced it consistently since the beginning of this year's event, is that although they removed the general 3 minute timer, there's still a 3 minute timer FOR THE SAME BOSS...I've been getting purple skulls sometimes as quickly as within 30 seconds of each other in public dungeons when I go from one boss to the next one down the hall or in the next room for instance (think alik'r dolmens). But if I go back to the previous boss and it wasn't 3 minutes yet, I'd get no skull...

    No, no, it's just inconsistent.

I removed the timer for the regular skulls from the Plunder Skull Timer addon, because I was convinced that there was no cooldown this year.

One player complained and said that there was still a cooldown on Public Dungeon bosses. I thought that he was wrong, because I know that I had gotten quick skull drops in the Rivenspire dungeon. So I went back into the Rivenspire dungeon, killed two bosses in less than 30s of each other and got two skulls. So I told him that he was wrong, and that there was no cooldown, and that he was probably just seeing the same-boss cooldown.

He replied with a video, showing him killing several bosses in the Malabal Tor dungeon. All separate, different bosses. None of them were respawns. He even got the achievement for that dungeon, meaning that character hadn't ever killed those bosses before.

And sure enough, when I went to that particular dungeon, the bosses did indeed have a cooldown.

So, like I said, it's just inconsistent. Some have a cooldown. Some don't. Welcome to ESO.

Nope, PC/NA. So, yeah, probably a ZOS bug if it's happening cross-platform. Also, it appears as though the Gold Coast Delves count as Public Dungeon bosses as far as the timer goes, but DON'T drop Public Dungeon Skulls, so... that's cool, too.

Public dungeon bosses already have a cooldown timer for loot. You know when you kill too many too fast and only get gold? That is the timer. And its the same timer for the skulls. So yeah, you have always been required to wait around if you wanted to get loot.

And as far as the cooldown for the dremora skulls. How hard is it to just do the skull farm at the same time each day? For those who can't play at the same time, I can see how it can be frustrating. But there seem to be people following the timer right down to cooldown. Why? If you did your farm between 8-10Pm, the very next day, your timers restart between 4-6Pm. So, either just do your farm again at the same time as the previous day, or subract 4 hours from the last skull you pick up and do your farm then. It's literally simple math. 20 hours is 4 hours back from when you finished on the next day.

I wish the people who would come her tom comment "how hard is it to X" would read the multitudes who have already commented saying "it's hard because of our jobs and kids and life". It's great that you can play the same time every day. Not everyone can.

"How hard is it to" have all quest and item cooldowns reset at the same time each day, like GMT? C'mon, ZOS, enough with the horrible fragmentation / cooldown creep.

So amazing when I can only play in the evening due to work and on the weekend I have to wait half a day to get them again because rip me I played in the evening Friday right...
I wonder how hard it must be to just add all those daily things to one equal timer like the crafting dailies etc.

And they coughed on the cobbles to the deafening sound

Of the steaming machines and the screaming of slaves

They were scheming for greatness, they dreamed to their graves

And they left us a spirit, they left us a vibe

The Mancunian Way to survive and to thrive

And to work and to build, to connect and create and

Greater Manchester’s greatness is keeping it great

And so this is the place now we’ve kids of our own

Some are born here, some drawn here but we all call it home

And they’ve covered the cobbles, but they’ll never defeat

All the dreamers and schemers who still teem through these streets

Because this is a place that has been through some hard times

Oppressions, recessions, depressions and dark times

But we keep fighting back with Greater Manchester spirit

Northern grit, northern wit in Greater Manchester’s lyrics

And there’s hard times again in these streets of our city

But we won’t take defeat and we don’t want your pity

Because this a place where we stand strong together

With a smile on our face, Mancunians Forever

And we’ve got this* as the place where a team with a dream (*Forever Manchester)

Can get funding and something to help with their scheme

Because this is the place that understands your grand plans

We don’t do No Can Do, we just stress Yes We Can!

Forever Manchester’s a charity for people round ‘ere

You can fundraise, donate. You can be a volunteer

You can live local, give local. We can honestly say

We do charity differently, that Mancunian Way

And we fund local kids, and we fund local teams

We support local dreamers to work for their dreams

We support local groups and the great work they do

So can you …help us help… local people like you?

Because this is the place in our hearts, in our homes

Because this is the place that’s a part of our bones

‘Cos Greater Manchester gives us such strength from the fact

That this is the place. We should give something back.

Always remember. Never forget. Forever Manchester.

How hard is it to just do the skull farm at the same time each day? For those who can't play at the same time, I can see how it can be frustrating.

It's so great that you quoted the second part of my comment about understanding it being frustrating for those who can't play at the same time and then completely ignored it. But at the same time, you missed the point where my comment was directed at people who track the timer down to the minute so that they can get the skulls immediately on cooldown. You know, the people that seem to have the time to play the game whenever they want.

Also, everyone seems to expect ZOS to contact them and work out their schedules so that everything works out perfectly for them. Sometimes being an adult, with real life responsibilities, means you can't always do everything you want. And that comes with the realization that noone owes you anything. This is a video game, and real life takes precedent. Oh well.
