Hello Devs and people from Zos and stuff,
hello @ZOS_GinaBruno @ZOS_KaiSchober and @ZOS_JessicaFolsom

there is something i am really really really interested in. There is a subjective feeling, that most female players play female chars and a huge part of male players play female chars, but there is no official statistic showing it.

I really would like to know, how many chracters in ESO on the differenz platforms are male and how many are female, a percentage. No need to split it into female and male players owning them, just a general number of heroes and heroines in the time of the interregnum.

It would be so awesome, if you could provide a number. Please please please *_* :)

They can only bla-bla and waste gold on feeding their ego. I am disappointed."

Egal, wie gut du Schach spielst, die Taube wird alle Figuren umwerfen, auf das Brett kacken und herumstolzieren, als hätte sie gewonnen.

If you move Argonians to separate category it will be 80% females in other races, 75% of which are mages and 60% vampires, and 90% of them are males IRL.

That's not really a subjective feeling. I can't remember where I saw it, but someone actually did a study and found that to be true. Females tend to play as females and males play both more frequently than females will play males.

From my experience meeting and playing with lots of different people, most players have both. I am female and most of my characters are female, when I have the option I usually take advantage of it. I do have 2 male characters though simply because that is what I envisioned when making the character.

Oh and the "there's no women on the internet" joke isn't funny and just makes you a beef wit.

I usually play females when give a choice since games I'm not given a choice tend to run with male protagonists.

I have 9 Characters, originally 4 male and 5 female but now 3 male and 6 female since one of them had a sex-change a few months ago.

At the end of the day, i'm the one who has to look at them all the time and frankly, my fat beer-bellied Nord just isn't the most visually pleasing specimen ...

You got 75% right with mages (6/8), 60% vampires (5/8, also, I hate fire now) but wrong about gender, I wanna say. I'm a man, and I run 4 boys and 4 girls, with play time being also about half and half. In my guilds, the amount of women playing is also apparently higher than men. I'm not in any try hard trash talk guilds that are all about *** sizes, so maybe I'm not the best demographic. Hehe

Also, female characters look generally nice, from badass to cute, from young to old, from skinny to big. Male characters look so generic, I think... Except beasts. Beasts look awesome.

Main reason I end up playing female characters in most games is the weird walking animation male characters often get. It bugs me, it's like they try really hard to make the females move elegantly and then just throw something together for the guys.

They did give us that fabulous redguard dance though. Totally objectify my main, not even gonna lie. The girlfriend finds it funny.

I could watch that dance all day. It's why I created a male character.

Being a guy, the sex of my characters is decidedly male, almost across the board. There is the occasional woman I will roll, because she fits the aesthetic or story I'm going for, but playing a man is easier for my own immersion.

As for gender, I don't develop my characters far enough to determine that, I'm far too busy enjoying the actual game.

It's a page in the book, not the cover.

Awesome maybe, but is there a financial return in it for them?

I sometimes create female characters, because it suits what I'm doing at the time. I get bored because the animation makes them look like they're wearing bikinis and high heels. I'd suggest that this would be the reason that some male players like to make and play females characters. Just an opinion, no substantiation involved.

Females humans IRL enjoy looking at themselves and each other, more so than their male counterparts. Id suggest that this is why they like to play female characters. A proportion will be focused on the "I can do anything" aspect, which is fine in itself.

Again, only my opinion, trying to respond to the "why" in the question posed.

Generally speaking, I prefer to make and play male characters, because that's what I like to look at. :)

my characters are generally idealized versions of myself...well, maybe except for my argonian and khajit...even after having those two characters since morrowind - the tail thing still freaks me out from time to time...thank goodness for polymorphs...

generally though - young, tall, heroic and muscled...

yeah, that's not really me :p

Some games go the other way, too. All the cutscenes in DA: Inquisition have the same animations for the player character, man or woman - they only did the slouchy dude animations. Pretty hilarious/horrifying when your female character moves like a lady the rest of the time.

Agree with the OP, more statistics please! Always interesting to see what people choose broken down numerically.

I usually play male characters in games that give me a choice (unless the males are super ugly/overly burly). As a male IRL, I find it hard to roleplay a female character. I also have no issues looking at a chiseled male backside for hundreds of hours (to all the insecure males out there who are wondering, no, it hasn't made me gay yet).

There've been entire studies on avatar gender selection behavior. I forget the exact statistics, but most people prefer avatars that match their biology.

I have... eight girl characters and seven boy characters in ESO at this time... and I usually make male and female characters in more or less equal measure. And if a game had intersexed or asexual characters (like alien races, robots/golems, etc.), I would make those too.

IRL... lets just say I am a bit wierd, gender-identity-wise, and leave it at that.

Well, living in Portland, Oregon, I've gotten rather used to "gender neutral bathrooms" and non-binary sexuality, and signs in local coffee shops encouraging patrons to refer to staff using "they/them" pronouns unless given specific preferences by that staff person.

That being said, I'm female. I think about 1/4 or so of my characters are males. Probably not a whole third, but I'm too lazy to double check and count.

Oddly, lately I've pretty much been running with the guys.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

Given the choice I usually create almost exclusively female characters (I mean speaking as a female player) as even today there're still way too many games that unnecessarily railroad you into playing a male character. By which I don't mean those with an actual proper background like Gertrude from The Witcher, just "because".

There's a lot of games I won't play since they're not open world, and being story-driven, most of them insist on a male protagonist.

I have never once in my 71 years of life wanted to know what it was like to be male, wished I was male, or had any interest in a game which forced me to be a male toon to just play it.

Totally a dude and 28 of the 30 characters that I have created are female.

Not an overtly sexual reason. (There may be something subconscious that I'm not aware of.) I just prefer to play females when there is a choice if it makes no difference in the story of the game.

It's a choice you get less often so I choose to do something different when I can.

    Spoiler Alert; it doesn't

Threads like these only serve to clutter the list and distract from the important issues(performance, game balance, bug/glitches, etc)
