Do you think plating should require half the current amount of grains to refine into a plating?

Case in point it requires 10 to grains to make a plating, thus making plating upgrade mats a fair bit harder to obtain than they honestly feel they should be.
This in turn also makes it that majority of all jewelry master writs are quite frankly the greatest undervaluing master writs, leaving only a few I have ever seen for master writs worth doing at all. Only jewelry master writs I have readily seen that are even remotely not the worst are master writs that call for the 3 basic as well as protective and infused that ask for the jewelry to be epic and give values greater than 97. I have literally lost track of how many master writs I have personally destroyed. A lot of people I noticed on xbox have issues with the master writs from jewelry crafting and only do the writs hoping they might by chance increase their chromium grains or get the jewelry surveys so they could get dust to refine to get the grains.
I have personally only been able to upgrade 2 jewelry.

Jewellery upgrading really is a huge pain in the A. Not that I don't have the gold to buy like 30 upgrades. It's more the fact that I just simply don't feel like it's fair, worth it and reasonable.

They should do away with grains altogether for tempers/trait mats and bring it into line with the other crafts. the grains thing is stupid and ridiculously grindy. I'm sick of this game's constant insistence on grinding.

The crap they did with the Welkynar motif has made me ignore it altogether. They did not learn from the glass motif fiasco.

Why should it be? Cause some people sit in front of the screen for 12 hours a day? F logic.

What about those who have 2 hours a day to play the game? Especially our Korean and Japanese friends, who work 14 hours a day. How about that? What about people with lives and children who still want to enjoy the game? Etc. etc.

5 or increase drop rates from refining and writs.
This also apply to purple, its as expensive to make an purple ring than to gold out two daggers.

Get rid of grains... but also...

reduce drop rates by at least 500% (where I get approximately 5 grains a doing writs, I now may get 1 plating)
revert master writ values back to the pre-Wolfhunter amounts
increase the platings required back to 2,3,4,8 for upgrades, same as all other professions.

There are 9-11 slots for gear (7 body, 2-4 weapons). 3 jewelry spots.
    9/3 = 3
    11/3 = 3.667.

It requires 1/2 the platings as it does alloy/rosin/wax.

    3 x 2 = 6.
    3.667 x 2 = 7.333 (I rounded)

Because every plating requires 10 grains

    10/6 = 1.6
    10/7.333 = 1.36.

    Hence, my 1.3-1.6 statement.

I think the grains need to go altogether. It's not like jewelry has to be suddenly realistic where everything is manufactured from raw materials. I don't get buckets of pitch or scraps of elegant lining I have to combine to make a full regent so there is no reason for jewelry having to either. The only reason I can come up with for the grains is ZOS want to slow down the jewelry crafting process to a crawl to artificially force rarity.

not sure what you are using rosin for, but it takes 8 rosin in total to gold out a staff, or 16 if you double bar. So we have 8 rosin that requires 8 rosin to drop for a single staff compared to 40 chromium grains for a single piece of jewelry. When you consider that a staff counts as two set pieces, it is closer to having to gold out 2 pieces of jewelry, so 80 chromium grains. That is considerably more than a 1.3-1.6 ratio.
In a worst case scenario, you would have 7 heavy armour pieces, and dual wield on both bars requiring 88 alloy. to gold out three pieces of jewelry would take 120 chromium grains. So you would need 32 more chromium grains to drop than you would need alloy to gold out an entire armour set and weapons.

Get rid of grains entirely, make everything that drops grains drop platings. Instead increase the number of platings required to upgrade by 4x (that would be 2x that of other crafting skills, since currently it's half the cost). These grains are just an annoying waste of bag space.

Changing the grain->plate conversion ratio will screw over anyone who has already converted their grains to plates while people like me who kept their grains as grains and convert only as needed will receive an unfair advantage.

The fair solution would be to increase the drop rates of grains from refinement and allow for the dropping of multiple grains from decon.

this would work as well, would be an approximately 20% reduction in cost to everything.... some of the master writs would now be in the 650-700g range per voucher, still expensive, but plausible to do. Gold jewelry would still cost 200k+ to craft, making the golden vendor still viable. And the furnishing crafters that require platings would be happier, as the cost of their goods would drop significantly!

Just don't make them into plates until you actually need to use them. If you store only grains and not plates, then the bag space consumption is the same. If I need to upgrade a piece of jewelry, I'll refine the exact number of plates on the spot and immediately use them, so I always have zero plates being stored.

Of course, the better solution would be to just get rid of plates. Just upgrade using grains directly: 10, 20, 30, and 40. And adjust drop chances of grains as needed. And if we get rid of plating, we can have a better progression of upgrade costs, too... instead of 10, 20, 30, 40, we could do 5, 10, 20, 40 to make the lower qualities more accessible.

No because it makes more sense to halve the plating costs on upgrades again.

The only reason is the ratio has always been 10Raw:1Refinement therefore we'd want to maintain that. You'd get the exact same end result, but stay in line with other materials :)
