That is simply false.Chests and nodes disappear after you loot them completely empty, to respawn later. Leaving loot inside delays the despawn.
Your feelings were hurt, but the chest will respawn properly even if there's stuff in it, after a while it will just disappear.
You're not going to lose anything, not skill points, not loot, as the chest wouldn't have respawned anyways.
Hope this helps.

Anything public (not instanced to you) will respawn on a timer that starts the moment someone interacts with it.
Leaving loot in it makes absolutely no difference in terms of respawn timing ...
PS: You can easily test this yourself ...
PPS: The only thing that affects respawn timers is the number of players nearby. The more players, the shorter the respawn time.
Or that a blazing mark saying "I'M A BAD BOY, DON'T GO NEAR ME" appears over heads of all his characters and follows them to the very character selection menu.

Neither. People usually farm for rare and expensive set items, so whether the chest is locked or not makes little difference.
It does, actually, because the respawn timer starts when the chest is opened, not when it's emptied.
Simply put, you're upset you found a chest with things you didn't want, when the alternative was not finding the chest at all.

Everything you have said epitomises the problem. I'll acknowledge your point that you might need all that stuff for any conceivable situation. Presumably you spend most of your game play "in action". It must be painful to wait for you to rummage through all that stuff looking for the right gear, at the right time. I normally just die.

No ESO+? OK. You are ENTITLED to have 8 chars and a bank inventory. That still gives over 1000 slots.
Please empty some of them before you go farming. I can't comprehend what you might be looking for....

You know, I have those moments too where I wonder if there's any hope for the species as a whole. Then I remember all the people who don't do these things. For the most part, 90-95% of the species as a whole is just minding its own business, doing its own thing, basically getting through the day as generally decent people. It's the minority, the 5-10% that's borking things up for the rest of us. We're just programmed to remember the crap. Thanks, evolution!
Get enough of the 10% to be truly awful and you spread the bad behavior-- which seems to be what's happening. It's that kind of bad thinking that leads to larger scale human problems like the global tragedy of the commons.
Task for myself tonight: Notice and appreciate the 90%.OrdoHermetica wrote: »People who leave garbage in chests are almost as bad as people who specifically wait for you to be fighting the mobs near a chest and then steal the chest from you.

How about no? Because most people won't nab it. I opened one heck of a lot of chests last night with a leveling toon and
a huge crowd of players in the area. Only one idiot dumped enemies on top of me to grab said chest. Giving global access to either a full or limited crafting bag might help eliminate this kind of behavior or instancing chests. A lot of bad behavior can be engineered away with reasonable systems.

well just leave some spots open for trash and if they fill up send them to a friend or just delete them from your inventory. I mean you can even use an addon (if youre on PC) to do it for you automatically (dustman) according to your wishes... your writing is no excuse. because yes people like you with a full inventory also find the trash annoying which YOU are leaving. And I think it also hurts the respawn rate. Though I havent tested it with stuff in the nodes, but mats generelly respawn if there are less mat nodes around!
Whether I pick up the trash or not, the chest is going to respawn in the same amount of time.
I have nothing to excuse, because the chest is going to respawn anyways. By leaving the stuff in I'm not going to prevent it from respawning.
It doesn't hurt the respawn rate, nor the respawn time, it only hurts your feelings.
Once you open the container (nodes, chests) the respawn timer starts. The respawn timer for that container is longer than the destruction timer, but they are not dependent on each other. It's not going to respawn faster if you pick everything up.
The reason why everyone makes such a big deal out of it is because they try to open the chest with high expectations, hoping to find who knows what treasure, and they get disappointed when they don't find anything.
Have a nice day.
well no. I dont know how the chests timer works. But I was talking about crafting nodes. There is no classic respawn timer. If a node respawns is dependend on the amount of -active- nodes around that one (probably in the same category, but seems more like every type). The question being: is a half looted crafting node still counted as active? I believe it is. But I can test it out on my favourite dense-node spot in bleakrock, where the clearing of nodes is in perfect balance with the circle you walk. Well actually no, I can't test it because I am a casual player but still own the crafting bag. Leaving garbage because you have limited inventory space for other people with also limited inventory space, when you can easily just delete stuff is still annoying and rude anyway.
Destroying the trash every time I pick something up is annoying for me as well, as I have to open the inventory, select destroy, confirm, then repeat for every other item, a task that takes from 10 to 20 seconds, while for you, you just have to ignore them: 0 seconds.
Considering I work for a living, and I have limited time to play, no, I'm sorry. You think I'm rude ? Well, I'm gonna cry myself to sleep tonight, and then get over it in the morning.
Have a nice day.
you play on PC, so you can just let dustman do the destroying automatically.
Also, yes I think you are rude and selfish, especially in your post above. Having limited time to play, having a job, as do I both, is no excuse for anyone for being rude and I dont know what it has to do with it.
You cant see from a distance if its half emtpy, it still takes the same amount for someone else to open the node.
Aisle is right, buddy. Chests are just another form of resource node, they operate the same way in game, and trigger their respawn timer as soon as they're opened. They do not reset the timer if interacted with in between the first access and countdown, you lose nothing for it.
On the subject of Dustman, I would never trust an add-on to manage my inventory specifically when it is designed to delete items permanently. Nothing against the author, but I didn't build it, so I won't risk it.
As far as being rude, all I see are people who never learned to handle disappointment with a healthy attitude, attacking others who are off minding their own business in the world.
If none of the ample past arguments have made it through to you, at the very least, there's this. If you don't want to find half empty nodes out in the game, you'd better make sure you get to them first.
Nobody owes you anything, nobody owes me anything. Especially not courtesy.
Dude/Dudette, seriously? Many of us have tested this, some extensively. And then there's the devs that confirmed how the timer works long after we already knew.Androconium wrote: »No-one really has ten minutes to stand around waiting; that's why no-one really knows how respawn really works.
Just because *you* don't know how it works doesn't mean "no-one really knows".
It really just means you don't know ...

Yeah. They should look like this:
I loot everything and i sell everything.. Not what i'd call rocket science.DaveMoeDee wrote: »One possible way to address this is to make partially harvested nodes/chests look different.
Yeah. They should look like this:
How did you make your rubbish bin levitate?
I am still not convinced crafting nodes work the same. Anybody actually tested it? Or confirmation from the devs how they work and can quote that?
The issue is not the respawn timer, but when someone leaves trash in a chest/node, other people waste their time on approaching to that chest/node just to realize it's empty/rubbish. If you have no time, you should know you spoil the fun for others. If you choose to be rude because your time is short, well expect the rudeness in return.
Untill this is somehow improved by ZOS or people stop playing rude, an appropriate message on general chat should make them at least ashamed.
