The original design had a lot of calculations done client side so the server did not have so much work to do. Unfortunately the original architects didn't consider security, and at launch we had bots all over farming delves, teleporting around the map to quests or resources, who knows what in PvP. At that point they quickly pivoted and made a hack change to move all these calculations to the server so clients couldn't cheat. Bam! Immediately the server performance went to garbage and cyro became the unplayable mess that it is today.
They've never been able to recover from that architectural error, and have given up actually because the current team of offshore devs are too incompetent to make any significant design changes. Publicly this is still an active, growing game, but I assure you that internally this game is EOL. Any effort to redesign would be wasted, they will spend it on the next title.

As I read these forums and experience the game over the months, I’m really starting to think their problem is a code base that was poorly designed to begin with. Designed poorly from an extensability perspective.
