Steam Sale, Re-purchase for Steam Reasons?

Hi everyone, ESO is on sale on Steam for 12.49 CAD, a whole 50% off! recently I have had the urge to repurchase on steam so friends who see me play can easily contact me without me constantly re-adding them and stuff. I know a few friends who own ESO on steam and I wonder if I play on steam they will be urged to play again. If I purchase it again, well I would have bought it again, new account, new everything. I don't mind starting over but I am generally indecisive by nature. So what you think? Is there any benefit to owning ESO on steam for Canadian players?

If you dont own it on steam now, do yourself a favor and dont own it on steam ever

There were tons of problems with steam a couple of months back.

I know they've had trouble in the past. I was mainly thinking about the steam community side of ESO. Like it adds another platform to possibly meet or influence more players to come play.

If you look at the ratings the steam community has given the game because of the problems, no one on steam is going to be encouraged to play this when they see that.

I have many games on Steam, I would never get ESO through Steam with the issues they had.

You can still log onto steam and have it running when you are playing ESO and put in your steam profile that you play ESO.
IF any of your friends want to ask you about it they can.

You might want to ask them why they stopped playing

If they left because they no longer like the game, you buying a whole new copy will probably not pursuade them.

I think its a waste of money and time to start over a new account but its your money and time
Knock yourself out if thats what you want

+17 more votes for avoiding the Steam version. (I stole some votes from friends I know who're also on Steam.)

If I could have all my collectibles and crown purchases carry over to the non-Steam version, I'd gladly restart at 0cp and no characters. The only thing stopping me is the real money I've sunk into my account over the years. We're locked out of the game more often than our non-Steam counterparts.

Do yourself a favor, and do NOT go through Steam. It simply isn't worth the headaches you'll inevitably face later on. Heed the warnings others give; I wish I did.

Oh, I know why they stopped playing. We played together when it launched. We played as an all werewolf guild and...well the werewolf playstyle was in-fashion back then but super weak in any type of gameplay thus the departure from ESO.

I know a few friends who own ESO on steam and I wonder if I play on steam they will be urged to play again.

I don't understand this part. Why would you owning the game on Steam change if they want to play the game or not? You can already add each other and play together even if one uses Steam and the other doesn't.

Just send them a message on Steam with your username, or ask for their username and add each other.

Then just add ESO as a non-steam game to the steam client, that way you can use the steam overlay and other steam features.

Steam inserts their own login server as an extra layer between you and ZOS. When that server goes down or gets overloaded, it's not possible for most steam players to log into ESO. This doesn't affect everyone, but it is a reason to recommend against getting it on steam, if possible.

Just buy the standard edition from the eso store and you are free of steam forever with everything intact. There is no ‘steam version’ of the game.

I have dozens of games on Steam. ESO is not one of them. Steam offers no improvement on this game, at all. What Steam does is hose logins about every major update, mess with Crown purchases, makes buying additional content a pain.

In short, dont use Steam for MMOs like this one.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

I just can't see even with 1/2 off that it is worth purchasing on Steam. When there's an outage related to ESO on Steam - they do that right. We're talking days if not over a week at a time. It sounds like they have that resolved, but it happened so often. I would never convert to Steam - not even if they gave me a free key code.

In fairness to Valve the problems with logins via steam were always precipitated by zos server patches indicating that the problems were the result of misconfiguration on zos side.

That's dependent on when you linked your account to Steam, it has to have been done before a certain date for the Steam client to be playable outside of Steam's login server. That date is long gone.

I believe that date was December 2016. So, if like me, you bought it after that and there are issues with Steam well..you are SOL ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ If I could switch to the non-steam version without having to start over, I'd do it in a heart beat.

You can't. Steam closed that option down over a year ago. So, if you buy from Steam, you're now locked into their walled garden.

You can. Check with support, but I believe the process is you buy a non-steam game key (just needs to be the base game, you don't need any additional stuff), add that to your account. This should allow you to log into your account without needing Steam.

You can actually launch a non-steam game from steam and it uses steam's social network for the most part. Friends see you as on line and so on, you just can't review the product and do some of the hub stuff related to owning a copy via steam. For your purposes just launching it from steam as a non-steam game will work, and this way you won't have to relevel your characters.

It’s broke on steam. Do not buy it. Add it as a non steam game if you want people to see you play it. Beyond that, you’re out of luck.

I think ou might even get the ctrl+tab overlay if you launch game this way. As well as ability to stream to another device of that suits your circumstances.
