Adding a cast time to shield is honestly the worst idea you guys have ever had and you should feel bad about it. Make it critable, sure, no problem. Make it less effective, sure no problem. Add a cast time to it? Where's the uninstall button.

A shield for me is one of those buttons I press when I have one of those oh *** moments and I need to react fast because my healer is busy healing someone else, or I made a small little mistake of not being at the proper position but I can recover by casting my shield so I don't die and wipe the group and rip our score run. (I'm a pve'r) with a 1 second cast time, you want me to predict the future, you want me to play perfectly with 0 mistakes and 11 other people as well.

    Yep, that's the whole idea of endgame PVE, to play without mistakes.
    Welcome to why it is annoying at endgame going for any achievement reward.

    Why each time they try to "balance" pvp they end up screwing Pve'rs over and over again?

    Why each time they try to "balance" pvp they end up screwing Pve'rs over and over again?
    The same way that each time they try to balance PvE they screw PvP'ers.

    Both sides always blame the other for nerfs. Unless ZOS splits the two entirely (I am not a fan of this) we either need to accept changes are made that will hamper one side to balance the other or just work together to find middle ground which works for both.

    Eh, I dunno. Remember when they wanted to make Bone Shield cost and scale off of stam? That woulda been worse if everyone hadn't flipped so hard that they backpedaled :smiley:

    Just for the record:
    Shields got nerfed b/c they made healers feel useless in PvE.
    Nobody was complaining about healers being useless in PvP.

    So this round goes to the PvE'ers screwing the PvP'ers.

    But I think we shouldn't point fingers at each other but rather at ZOS for producing such a clusterf....

    I cannot come up with a scenario where a lucid and sane person would think that this is
    1) good idea and
    2) balanced

    You guys do realize that stam can roll dodge at will in oh *** moments. For mag users the shield is for our oh *** moment. If we have to sprint at all, most of the time there is not enough stam to roll dodge. Stam and mag both need an oh *** escape ON DEMAND. And mags has just been taken away. Talking PVE here btw

    And I'm mainly talking about big "one-shots" from hard hitting enemies or bosses that need to be shielded or dodged.

    This is not a way to make healers viable again as I see some people suggesting in other threads. The only thing this does is make a bunch of mag dps get one-shot all the time, which no amount of healing can save you from

    There are stam classes that still have none all nd get 1 shot by bosses in pve all null the time

    At least you have any kind of shield at all and can be ranged

    Some stam have almost none, have to be in melee range to get the dps needed and can get one shot by vet bosses all the time because there is no way to get out of it.

    There's a simply way to split the two. One has cp enabled the other does not. You could feasibly use cp to balance the two separately.

    Just slot Mirage to reduce incoming AOE dmg by 25% instead of a shield.
    Direct dmg usually is for the tank and the rest of the group takes AOE dmg.

    If you dont have access to Mirage you're playing the wrong class.

    Wrong. Shields did not get nerfed because of pve healers. No one said that the shields were the reason healers felt useless. Not one person. Zos came up with that by themselves.

    This is a PVP and PVE nerf.

    PVP: shields are crittable and trying to shield stack requires vulnerable cast times.

    PVE: ZOS made it pretty clear they think damage shields make healers useless.

    Well give sorcs a valid defensive skill other than stacking. BTW, a cast time on shielding don't nerf the skill itself, it nerfs the users ability to use it effectively. It removes the attack vs counter moves in battle. If you attack a sorc they counter with a shield. Now with a cast time they can't counter an attack, how is that remotely fair?

    I have no clue what ZOS thinks this nerf is going to improve. Maybe they just want to get rid of magsorcs?

    People who play magsorcs signed on for a fast paced, quickly moving character which is putting out high damage but which will also perish quickly if you slack on your defenses (=shields). The "high damage" is already gone in the live game - magblades manage 30% more damage output. Now with the upcoming changes on the PTS, the "fast paced" will be a thing of the past, too. Instead, you either gear up in heavy armor with all implications that has. Or you wrangle with clunky shields that will more often than not not cast at all considering ther responste time of the servers.

    So what remains? The "will perish quickly"? Thats enticing to nobody but ZOS.

    The only problem with the shield making the healer feel useless theory is healers need them too sometimes... Can't wait to see the now "useful" healer get oneshot because the shield didn't go off in time.
