Mine lurks under the desk next to the server because there's too much other junk strewn around on top, but anyway, that pedantry aside. It's a DIY job so it's the latest iteration of whatever it's previously been.

    CPU: i7 6700K 4.0Ghz
    Motherboard: ASUS Z170 Pro
    Memory: 32GB
Storage: three mirrored HDDs (about 4TB or so usable) and an SSD for more demanding stuff
Graphics: Sapphire Radeon R9 390 factory OC. Bit long in the tooth but performs well enough.
Monitor: NEC 26" 16:10 ratio IPS thingy.
Keyboard: IBM Model M SSK. Not exactly a typical gaming keyboard but I like it.
Mouse: Roccat something-or-other. Don't care about dpi just wanted one that wouldn't break. It hasn't.
OS: Windows 10. Nothing else to say about that; meh, it's Windows and only there as it's required for gaming.

Probably extremely ordinary but I'm happy enough with it. Once I'm not I'll upgrade it again.

I run ESO through Proton at 4K when playing at my desktop, but most often I play on my TV from my couch through my Steam Link (over a wired connection through a PLC).

I used to run it through wine-staging-esync+DXVK, but for some reason since this week the sound with that setup has become glitchy.

got like 5 machines that can run ESO (4 pc + 1 mac) that I constantly assemble and disassemble to test things

I also tested ESO on Linux and runs very well if you'd ask me

the basic idea is an intel processor (i5/i7 5th gen or newer/better) and a medium budget graphics card (a couple hundred bucks) and you're good to go

I'd like to mention running the game on a SSD improves its performance (loading screens and such) A LOT

    EDIT:

a ryzen 5 or newer can give you also good results

HDD sets, I mean: six drives in total. You can do three-way mirroring if you want but a gaming rig isn't exactly that mission-critical, especially as I backup my saves to my server (which also gets backed up) on a regular basis. I have previously used RAID 5 and 6 on my server but they were always glacially slow so it now uses RAID 10.

Ah ok, I read it as three drives in total. Yes, you can do three-way mirroring but it needs 5 or more drives, that's why I said not possible (as reading your post made me think of 3 drives not volumes). But yes R5 and 'traditional' R6 are dead, it's R0, R1 or R10 for us consumer types. R6 is used in SANs, but it's a very specific implementation and pays off with the large amount of drives in a cage.

But we digress, and one thing is certain, whatever RAID level, we'll still have glacially slow ESO loading screens... ;-)

    Here are my computer specs:

    UserBenchmarks: Game 126%, Desk 101%, Work 80%
    CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K - 90.9%
    GPU: Nvidia GTX 1080-Ti - 163.1%
    SSD: Samsung 850 Pro 1TB - 118.9%
    HDD: WD Blue 1TB (2012) - 86.7%
    RAM: G.SKILL Trident Z DDR4 3400 C16 4x8GB - 107%
    MBD: Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming 7

The % numbers at the end are from Userbenchmarks.com giving the overall rating compared to similar builds. Most everything is rated at "Outstanding" except for the WD hard drive, which is rated at "Excellent". The 6700K Skylake processor is starting to show some age, but still holds up fairly well :) So I think I did OK for a system I built myself.

For the mirroring I meant just the most absolutely basic RAID-1, nothing fancy, so a simple 1:1 copy across all drives: not very efficient but fast and simple. My ventures into 5 and 6 (or more properly "z2" for the latter in my case as I'm using ZFS) may have managed acceptable performance with some form of caching but I wasn't about to do that with basic consumer-level hardware and no UPS... eek. I could've tried to convince myself it was nostalgic as it was so reminiscent of the days of waiting for a cassette to load, but it was just annoying!

And yeah, as I discovered: "maybe eating into my valuable SSD space!" might fix it. But, as many here could have predicted, it made not one jot of difference. Not even to the laggy stutter thing you sometimes randomly get that makes stuff as simple as turning while sprinting a "challenge"...

    .

Yes, for R5 and R6 to be performant you do need battery backed caching and proper RAID controller hardware, otherwise it's a bit slow and also risky, as you say! The parity calculations are what takes the time, and this makes writes slow, and for us home users we do a lot of writing, whereas businesses mainly use R5/6 for scatter reads (databases), which those levels of RAID excel at. When I used spinning drives I used RAID 0, as it's super fast, but made sure I backed up my important content. But now, I have M2 and SSD throughout, so the through put is fantastic. In fact, in real terms, I cannot detect a performance increase in M2 over normal SSD, because usually the system is waiting on something else, such as the loading screen...;-)

Have a few systems around the house, main one in gaming room and I often play the game on is:

    CPU: Intel i9 7980XE
MB: ASUS ROG Rampage VI Extreme
    Cooling: Custom loop
    RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum 8 x 8GB
GPU: Triple Nvidia GTX 1080Ti (while only 2 way is supported officially, can use Nvidia inspector to create 3/4 way profiles and system used to do compute work)
    SSD: Samsung 960 Pro 1TB
    PSU: Corsair AX1600i

System is overkill somewhat for gaming but used to dual hat for research and I have had a similar experience with many other builds. Modern Intel i5/i7 from Coffelake would be a good base CPU. Nice single core performance which games prefer and its CPU architecture makes it similarly suited. Paired with a mid-range GPU (depending on your resolution) 16GB of RAM and SSD and the game will run very smoothly.
