Not even close, we don't even have details about Starfield. ES6 is at least 5 years away.

Factoring in the likely advances in hardware, we'll see a new generation of consoles, and perhaps higher-quality video output that the current 4K. Xbox "Scarlet" is already in development and could be to the market in 2020. That raises additional question. Would it be a forced upgrade? Would different console gens be able to play together? If a move, would characters port or do we start from scratch?

If there's backwards compatibility, and I can keep playing with my friends on the same account, then I will be a Day 1 convert to the new console.

If they can find a way to make new content take advantage of the new hardware, and make the new content unique enough and interesting enough to attract new players, while not leaving players who cannot immediately upgrade out in the cold, then that would be ideal.

this is a major problem, truthfully all the veteran talent in this industry for MMO development either moved to indie teams with crowd funding or are helming full corporate studios that have released games over the last 7 years. when they scraped Eq next it was a major hit to many of the old school mmo players. but from what i saw in their development it was likely a good idea their concepts were convoluted and poorly implemented. The only game im looking forward to is Pantheon, and ashes ive shelved ESO i just cant do leveling content with no levels when the single player RPG aspect of this game is so medicore. I would rather just play sky rim or witcher for that experience.

With allot of new MMO's with similar combat and gameplay to ESO coming out, possibly a new TES game and just seeing ESO up against its current competition today,

Where do you guys think ESO will be in 3 years? What hopes do you for the game? What do you want to see/hope not to see? What content do you want added or improved?

In three years eso will still be in an unusual long load screen.

IMO the game will be just fine - eventually the PvP sector might be less populated than it currently is, but the PvE sector will still be growing - this game is far from being even near to the end yet and TES6 is many years away - BGS has not even made Starfield yet and TES6 is far beyond that - so in 3 years the only up-to-date TES game will still be ESO and mainland Tamriel might be near to completion. So my dream to finally see all of Tamriel might have come true by then.

I think the game is doing well, because it leaves people alone and does not force them to co-op with anyone really - it is optional and that is good this way. TES comes from the single player genre and ZOS does well by respecting that and not forcing MMO-style gaming on us. And player numbers - just recently more than 1 million new players - show that it works well this way and the current concept is a quite successful one. It took ZOS a while to get to this more casual approach, but it pays off that they changed the game in a more accessible way for casual players as well.

I think it'll still be around, but ZOS really needs to focus on technical improvements.
Thing is, there's not much competition: pvp focused mmos wouldnt be interesting for the majority of casual ESO players, and Korean and Chinese games are just P2W cash grabs.

Keep increasing every year. ZOS must be doing something right. :)

You are joking right?, Steam playerbase is hardly indicative of the playerbase considering most of us on PC bought it direct or from other sources and not on Steam, even people who play Eve Online is the same.

Four years ago a lot of people didn't think the game would still be around now. Lo and behold, here it is still chugging along. Three years isn't that long of a time, as others have mentioned. The thing keeping ESO going is brand recognition. It has a built in fanbase and draws new players in all the time, so it seems unlikely to die in three short years.

As for filling the map in, nothing says they can't revisit old zones and add new content to them. Once all of Tamriel is filled in I can see them adding new content to the original zones to give veteran players a reason to go back to these places. And also probably a new leveling system as the champion system will eventually peter out and need something else. They raise the cp cap every quarter right? We will be well into the 1000s by then. I can just see them rolling over into a new leveling system at some point to supplement the champion system. And they will have more than enough content to justify it too.

If a garbage Rift spewed at its players can continue for years, trust me, ESO will be here for another 10 years, if they keep up current rate of new content.

Hand to hand skill line will be added to the game, due to all other skills being nerfed into oblivion.

The alliance war is dead. Cyrodiil split into two pve chapters.

The imperial city also a pve only zone.

battlegrounds expanded. 2v2, 8v8, 12vs12 added with new battleground maps.

One next gen consoles and PC with a Tamriel Reborn tag or something similar. It’s got at least another 5-6 years left if something like DCUO can still be trucking since the PS3 era.

    BWAHAHAHAHAHAHHAH!

    put down the pipe.

FFXIV actually has more players than ESO and they are a sub based game, I'm certain that if you look at hard cash flow numbers many other games are eating ESO's lunch.

Camelot Unchained will bleed what's left of the PVP population, Ashes of Creation , and Pantheon, will lure away what guilds are left and all ESO will have is the cancerous cash shop crowd......I think in three years it will be like LOTRO only with the opposite type of player base. It won't be shutterd but will definitely be in maintenance mode.

    addendum,
The only reason Bethesda isn't adding co-op to TESO 6 is because they know it would kill ESO in a week. Let that sink in as to how fragile this game is right now.

Everyone will be walking slowly, mounts will just walk beside you so you're not too fast. Most will be doing 5 dps, the one doing 4 dps will cry for nerfs on everyone doing 5. There will be one race with all the previous races passives together and they'll look like all races combined into one so people think it's fair. All armor will be purple due to people afraid to gold anything since the second they do it gets hammered back down to uselessness. etc.

I think ESO will still be here, still having a good player base and thriving but might take a bit of a hit when the new Elder Scrolls RPG comes out. Be interesting to see where the game is in terms of how much of Nirn have we explored and when did ZOS run out of motifs to give us lol.

Co-op by Todd Howard's own admission has been the most requested feature since Morrowind.
