Does anyone ever question someone's legitimacy in PVP?
Every week on these forums.
I've ran into a couple people today that just made me question whether it's even worth playing this game anymore. I'm talking about PvP participants in a CP campaign.
There are just some things that I don't understand at all. As an example
Medium Armor wearers that somehow only take minimal damage and heal like a templar, never ever seem to run out of resources while fighting an entire group of people and constantly dodging, somehow still being able to dish out damage in numbers like 6-8k.
Meanwhile I'm here with a full damage build, being a glasscanon, hit these people for about 2k with surprise attack, my rally ticks for like 500 without defile, vigor for about 1000 without defile. Running 2.5k stamina regen and having no stamina after 10 seconds...
Or people who somehow manage to mash 4 attacks into 1 second while we fight. I know some of you will say lag, but I find it very hard to believe that there is some random lag spike all of a sudden that lets someone win like that. Because if it was true, then how come I never ever experience this myself? How come its always someone who's killing me? It doesn't add up.
Can somebody explain how are these things even possible? Why when I wear identical setups I doesn't change anything? This is open field combat too, no LoS, no Trick, Just Face to Face Fair combat. I'm about to just give up on the game. The next best thing is, whenever I politely ask these people what builds they use they either ignore it, or respond along the lines of "Secret" or some random profanity. Only got one response in 10.
If anyone has ever wondered why i flip out and send hate tells, its because of things like that. I find myself struggling, trying to be at least slightly good, trying to play the game and focus so hard it gives me a literal headache, keeping up with everything on the screen and just really not having fun.... and then all effort gets instantly thrown out the window by someone like this. So if there's anyone here reading this, anyone who got a hate tell from me, let me sincerely apologise, I can actually be a really nice person outside of PvP. It's almost like this game is changing me.
Does anyone here know what I mean? Like... am I the only one? What am I missing... Was my character supposed to do something or get something? Are people just exploiting or hacking? I'm not a good player by a long shot but these simple things that really aren't a question of gameplay or playstyle... These inconsistencies, these huge factual number gaps.... It just doesn't add up. And sadly it makes me hate a really good game with a lot of potential.
I don't want to start any conspiracies or anything here, just truly trying to understand what's making me want to quit the game I love. Any constructive input would be appreciated. And once again, I'm not a good player but this just feels like something else is going on behind the scenes.
No offense, but given your posting history I think the problem is probably on your end and not elsewhere.
That said one would have to be very naïve to believe that people aren’t exploiting in this game. Reportedly there are over 70 exploits available on a certain well known website. ESO is just a very buggy piece of not very well done code in the end.

Before I answer, I think there is skill to the game and a build will only carry you so far. That said, I always run medium or light, and I will typically run at least one defensive set, such as Fortified Brass or Impregnable, and possibly Troll King. Combine that with being a tanky Nord DK, using 1H + S on one of the bars, and ...Medium Armor wearers that somehow only take minimal damage and heal like a templar
... that can be the result.Meanwhile I'm here with a full damage build, being a glasscanon, hit these people for about 2k with surprise attack
Ouch. That does NOT sound good, at least not in a CP campaign. Have a look at Despotic's YouTube channel, as he tends to optimise (Vigor) healing. A well-specifed character can have up to a 17K Vigor tooltip, in CP, and to my best recollection, Despotic had something like 2.7K Vigor crit heals in PvP with that setup. Some tips to get there:my rally ticks for like 500 without defile, vigor for about 1000 without defile.
Stop dodge rolling so much in a row.Running 2.5k stamina regen and having no stamina after 10 seconds...
A lot of good points, and I particularly liked these. The point where a build sustains well really differs with class and build. As a medium armor player, it has been 1.7K upwards, for me, in CP. On my dodge rolling woodelf NB, I prefer at least 2.3K, and due to the woodelf passive that's not hard to achieve. I play melee, not bow though, and I run high mag sustain as well. Cloak does wonders for your stam sustain, as long as you are not detected. I have also taken to playing 7 medium, lately, which I love for the sprint speed, dodge roll and general cost reduction.rfennell_ESO wrote: »The problem you have is that "glass cannon" builds aren't cannons versus defensive builds. Many many builds aren't going down without a cc before burst.
P.S. most builds have a sweet spot for stamina regen. Meaning there is a point where they can sustain very well, and it's lower based on the cost of abilities. If you are a bow based glass cannon build the cost of your abilities makes it very hard to sustain without going too far into sustain to be useful. You might note that many of these nearly unlimited sustain builds don't use expensive abilities by design.
CE exists but its a memory hack and can only alter data that’s stored on the client. After CE weekend, most data was moved away from being stored client side and swapped to server side.CE does exist. It used to be more popular, but it is still used by some. I got very sad and frustrated when I faced that reality, but I moved on forward to realize that humans will always find a cheat/exploit etc... in order to be on top of others, even in a virtual game.
Each one has different ethical fundaments, I believe.

I once was in a group of about 40 players going for a blue scroll. (Was playing EP)
There was a group of 3...3(!) nightblades that dodge rolled constantly, was taking anywhere from 120 to 230 damage from anyone in the group no matter the build, somehow had shuffle up constantly, and was somehow able to cloak constantly in the middle of huge AoE. All in the open with no line of sight whatsoever. I, and at least 4 others in this group were using resource drain poisons as well, yet these 3 players never ran out of resources, yet they were constantly using abilities as well as using comobs at will. What's weird is we were attacked by these 3 players, we didn't chase them or "zerg them down". And they wiped all 40 of us.
Always amazed people say there's no cheating in this game. It gets thrown around a little too freely and isn't always the case, true. But if you strongly deny cheating happens in this game, you are naive or use cheats.
I took video of that incident and reported it. Haven't seen those players since. Just saying.
Just the ones that ignore the global cool down because its client side.
This game is a huge source of stress for me.
I know for me recently I got killed in 1 second, one nightblade was able to use 3 skills and 2 ultimates in the one second I heard the attack go off. I wasn't lagging, my attacks were hitting him.
Impossible due to GCD of 1 second.
GCD: Global Cooldown. Cant get skills out faster then every 1 second. No matter if you use macros or Not.
What you experienced was either lag or a "Macroslice", wich has nothing to do with macros just player calling this bug like this. The bug makes you stuck in an animation but you are still able to kill cast the skills and when the bugged animation ends they all fire off at once. This pops up randomly.
Just the ones that ignore the global cool down because its client side.
Wait... what?! And here I thought there wasn't any real hacking in this game. How naive of me. I figured that of all games I play, this one does the most to prevent real hacks since they cut into the bottom line. And ZOS can't even reliably detect against client-side hacking that bypasses the global cool down because of latency.
That's good info. And saddening... I get the technical reason to make it client-side, but the first rule of a client-server application is that you never ever trust any data coming from the client. And of all things......... The global cool down between abilities.... Of all things to trust from the client... The thing that gives an exploiter the most advantage.
And now this gives credence to the other thread where the guy claimed someone was flying... Let me guess, they don't detect that someone's player position data stream shows them as not touching the ground for x seconds and do something about it? Even Notch figured this out with Minecraft... Despite it being a rather large bit of data going across the wire for a bool value... That was always his programming style...
Well this is disheartening. I guess I need to read up on the cheats out there. If I did, I'd probably stop playing..
Next I'll find out that resource counters are client-side too and that would explain the never ending dodge roll people talk about. I don't consider a lot of things cheating that others do consider cheating. But tampering with data stream between client and server IS cheating. And it shouldn't even be possible. ZOS should be able to encrypt that stream so it's not possible to tamper with it. That would eliminate most of their hacks.
