Because bots have accounts and if they log in for 28 days they get a free 100k per account?

Is this a trick question or something?

I don't really think it's a HUGE deal but I do think ZOS is doing the equivalent of "printing more money" and shoving it into the economy

I've been seeing far fewer bots around these days.

I imagine Crown gifting has put a bit of a dent in their operations.

No, not a trick question. Genuinely curious if anyone has actual evidence that botting has ‘already broken the in game economy’ and what the impact would actually be here.

I hate bots, but no one outside of Zenimax could run the numbers to know what their actual impact is, as far as I’m aware. Does the OP have a data set they can analyze to prove their claims (well, the claims that aren’t obviously subjective anyway)? I could see this hurting gold sellers and botters too... I have no idea what direction the data would go without actual data.

They don't have a huge impact on the economy, but they DO impact the economy.

I honestly think asking for data on something so easy to observe is, quite frankly, nonsense. It's like asking for data on why fire burns you. Because...it's hot?

Not to mention that, all things considered, if you can't make 100k in 30 days, you're reeeeeeeally not trying. Farm a bunch of mats. Sell stacks of alch; refine ww/bs/cloth and sell tempers. At the very least, steal a bunch and sell at a fence. You can get to 100k in two days do that easily.

But you do need data to undergand the precise magnitude of that impact. That’s what I’m curious about. I watch the company basically not do crap about the botpocalypse, and wonder if that is because the impact is low... or they can’t be bothered to do their jobs. I don’t know which it is... or maybe something else entirely.

AFAIK, it’s unlimited. I’ve got more than 5 accounts right now, but I do own a few copies of the game, for the purpose of playing on multiple consoles at once.

Whole bits have not actually trashed the economy this thread is a makes a great point.

Bots hack the game to get their accounts. They already steal from the start. Now they’re getting a reward and as such probably hacking more accounts to get more free gold.

Hadn’t thought about this I’ll effect and the idea does not make sense.

Yes but the point still remains that none of us actually have a grasp on the magnitude of the impact, that isn’t based in wild speculation.

Bots basically do 2 things. First, they increase the amount of materials in the market. This is an increase in supply and in isolation will lower the cost of said goods in the market place.

Second they generate gold. Some of this is a transfer of wealth from players that already have gold and buy their mats, that gold is then redistributed to players that buy gold. They also actually bring gold into the economy every time they do an activity that generates new currency, killing a mob, etc.

The redistribution of wealth can have varied implications in the market. If you presume it is coming from wealthy players buying mats and going to poor players, buying gold, you could argue that you are increasing overall demand which would actually drive prices up as their are more players in the market. As to the new currency in the game, that essentially boils down to inflation which also makes prices go up.

Point is that bots can have both an upward and downward impact on commodity prices. Without a lot of info that none of us have, it is impossible to access the magnitude of either. It’s easy to say, it’s basic supply and demand, but that assumes that you understand that sometimes things can simultaneously affect both, in which case you need more info to understand what it will do to prices.

In other news, I would love to know the average lifespan of a bot account. Do they even make it 30 days on average? I honestly have no idea.

If it's acutally useless, you are more than welcome to send it to me. If I see my mailbox remain empty, I will assume it has some value to you and you've chosen to keep it. That's over 150 crown crates worth of gold right there if you have nothing else to spend it on.

    Honestly this.

People say "Oh this sh*t's so worthless to me" but they'll never pony up and prove it because it's not actually worthless to them.

For me the gold is a measure of accomplishment, but there is nothing of value that you need gold to get if you just play the game.

As for the 100k reward at the end of the month. Doing the writs on one character every day will net you nearly 140k in a month, just from the turn in reward.

How are you buying crown crates with gold?

Yup. This is basically what I'm curious about. So-called "common sense" is frequently wrong, which is why I prefer to avoid making assumptions and going with what the hard data tells us. We don't have that data, and the OP doesn't seem keen on providing any, so we don't really have a clear picture of the situation. That said, I don't get the impression that the OP is interested in sound analysis and fact-based statements... they wanted to rant. I figure maybe, just maybe, someone in the community has actually done the analysis to prove exactly what sort of impact botting has on the virtual economy of ESO. I suppose it was something of a long shot of a request. -_-

There is an economy. Yeah, maybe chests do not re-spawn in a realistic way (or erosion is damn fast on Nirn...). Or maybe there are Ringtails trained to bring the gold back to the chests in a very discrete way - So you didn't notice it <3

That is exactly what I do with gold and mats. One of my favorite things to do is craft a bunch of level 10 training gear in hundings and Julianos and pass it out in stonefalls. I always do it on free to play weekends. I have also met several people while leveling alts, and dont hesitate to make them some gear and perhaps give them a little something to get them started. A lot of them burn out around the 200 CP mark, but a few have made it all the way to the cap. Got to plant a lot of seeds if you want something to grow.

Gold is definitely not useless in this game. It is worth less and less each day due to inflation, and if nothing else, this policy is certainly going to increase inflation, but even people with hundreds of millions typically dont just give it away. I am well into the 8 figure territory, and I still shop around if I am looking for anything that costs more than about 5k. There is generally an inverse correlation between accumulating gold and reckless spending. Haha.

Also, if people are mailing out millions of gold, add me to the list!
