Crash during character login

The game is crashing when trying to "request character load". As soon as the screen changes from the character screen to the zone splash screen the game crashes. I have made 7 attempts so far and the crash occurs at the same point each time.

I have restarted my computer, and also tried two characters that are in two different zones. I am using windows 7 64-bit. I experienced no issues during my last session about 6 hours ago.

I was out questing and the game crashed. Then I was able to log back in for 5 seconds and it crashed again. Now when I try to play my character it just crashes. Pissing me off now and mind you this is after playing ALL DAY during the pre-release time period with NO ISSUES.

I still have not been able to load a character into the game. I have tried everything except downloading the game again. Likewise, I did not have issues during the pre-release time period. I am currently waiting for their support department to call. My error occurs at the same place during the "requesting character load", as soon as the screen changes from the character screen to the zone splash screen. I am currently downloading and reinstalling the game to see it that fixes the issue. Although I have submitted both separate requests for email and phone support, I have not heard from customer nor technical support regarding this issue.

Just to update, a fresh install has not fixed the issue, and the game still crashes during "requesting character load". I still have not heard from from customer nor technical support. I have put in both an email and phone support request but have not had any response.

Try turning off your Firewall and Anti-Virus. Have you also port forwarded for ZOS Servers?

I do have the ports forwarded on my router. Also, I have attempted to run the game with both my antivirus and firewall disabled. The result is the same. My last attempt with the ports forwarded, firewall and antivirus turned off was just a couple of minutes ago.

The crash occurs at the exact same time regardless of the character or zone. I choose the character, click play; as soon as the screen changes from the character selection screen to the zone splash screen the game stops responding. I submit the crash report every time.

This is very frustrating as I had no issues with the game prior this this occurring about 30 hours ago.

I am having similar problems with crashing. I usually crash whenever I finish a loading screen.

My crash has occurred at the exact point every time now. I have been reading additional threads where others are experiencing crashes. It appears that it may be related to the last patch, but I cannot be certain about that.

Tech support and customer service have not responded. I have submitted an email request as well as a phone request for support but never received an answer. Looking through the various threads I have not seen any response on the forums either, except from other players trying to be as helpful as possible. Zenimax, it appears, has not even acknowledged the issue which is very frustrating.

I did receive a response to one of my support tickets saying that the ticket is being sent to their special team along with the error message.

I found a fix to the crash for my game. I was using the spamfilter addon, after removing the addon my characters can load into the game. I deleted the addon folder "spamfilter" from ...My Documents/Elder Scrolls Online/Live/Addons. Also, I had to delete the spamfilter.lua file from ...My Documents/Elder Scrolls Online/Live/SavedVariables.

It you are using any addons I would check there first. I am still using the Foundry Tactical Combat and have no issues, but the spamfilter did cause my game to cause.

Jason, sorry you had trouble with the SpamFilter addon.

I was doing some work on it today and stumbled across a rather disturbing oddity - sometimes perfectly valid calls to string.find() cause a crash to desktop. Still not sure of the cause, and have reported the issue to ZO.
