Characters as Furnishings - Housing Idea

If this idea were implemented as I envision it, you would be able to use the model for any of your characters as a furnishing in your house (perhaps even in different positions available via emotes). Obviously if you are presently playing the character the furnishing is based on, it would be invisible for you and for everyone else. This would help houses feel more alive and it would be SUPER cool seeing 2+ of your characters at the same time.
-
IDEA LIST:
Put your main on a bed in your house with /sleep so you can see them resting while not playing.
Fresh lvl 3 in starting outfit using /hammerlow on something in your house to imitate a hired worker doing repairs.
Thematically appropriate toons. Guards in Imperial getup for the big Imperial estate, a court jester for the overlook, toons wearing curator/factotum poly for CWC house, toons wearing Xivkyn/Maelstrom poly for the coldharbour house. Argonians doing /sweep in your Dunmer's mushroom. Endless possibilities.

Maybe tack it on to ESO plus to make it profitable?

Businesses are not obligated to casually inform anyone of projects under consideration or already being worked on. For a private company and its subsidiaries, it's more about protecting intellectual property and ensuring that only the most complete information is publicly shared.

Publicly traded companies have additional hurdles depending on the nature of the information shared.

But to say ZOS is always silent ignores their social media and planned community events both online and offline.

As far as the actual idea, aside from the technical issues, there's always going to be somebody complaining that they can't do a group shot with their entire character roster. You want to limit how many of those 'never good enough' projects you work on simultaneously, especially if they're a subset of another 'never good enough' project like housing has turned into.

Not working for Zos I wouldn’t know, but I’ve seen others bring up in threads on the same topic that this would likely be very difficult technically. Imaginably, having customized characters who just /emote loop (or possibly personality loop) would be feasible, if challenging (think what pets/mounts do as furnishings currently). Pathing characters for them to move around at all, interact with objects, etc., would likely be way too intensive for ZoS to consider implementing. Sounds like you’re asking for the former, so could hopefully be implemented as part of a QoL patch. Homestead 2.0?

But if this is feasible in any capacity, I’m all for it. Let my characters be friends, Zos.

Yea just standing still w/ non-mobile emotes. So dancing, sitting, sleeping, etc. but no pathing and no temporary emotes like /wave cause those would be a pita to implement probably.

This would be so awesome! I'd really love my characters to 'meet' eachother.

I would really love to be able to designate a home for each individual character and when not playing them be able to see them in that home.

It would be really awesome to have different sandbox packages, similar to personalities, like having one set to do cooking actions in your kitchen area or another set to take a book off the shelf read, put it back and go sit at the desk and write, that kind of thing. But I imagine it would be too difficult to make such a thing when everyone is decorating their house differently, I'm not sure if it would be able to detect where you'd put your bookshelves or provisioning station or whatever for that sort of thing.

Obviously if you are presently playing the character the furnishing is based on, it would be invisible for you and for everyone else.

I found this idea really interesting; In a sense, yeah this would be totally cool and would definitely add something to housing.

On the other side, I am not personally convinced I would enjoy seeing my own characters doing repetitive things like robot (especially with some bugs as background...); Because, by essential definition, I am the only one supposed to be able to interpret them... Breaking this rule won't make it imo, so I would suggest that your idea applies more generally to lambda NPCS (that you would be free to shape, call and dress as it please you - including as some of your character ofc).
Finally, the funniest part of this new feature would clearly be the design and 'programming' of those NPCs I guess.
This would help houses feel more alive and it would be SUPER cool seeing 2+ of your characters at the same time.

I understand 100% what you mean but don't think this is the way to achieve it ultimately. In fact, fun comics or fan fictions, fan Arts or photoshopped scenes - well, YOUR IMAGINATION basically - will always do the work better, and maybe that's why we like ESO so much (In addition to it's very addictive GamePlay...), because it makes us DREAM :p

I am more interested in 'craftable' npc's. I would also like a Choir of Bards singing Red Diamond in harmony.

As said, i agree. And yes, not even for crafted-npc but in general - a /singRedDiamond emote is missing yet!!

RIFT had something like this. I wound up having a "simulacrum" I guess you could call it of one of the game NPCs in an area I built up for one of my mains, with a self-constructed main house and several outbuildings - small houses etc. It actually creeped me out - so I moved him to a little house elsewhere on the property, and never went there again.

So, I wouldn't want it if it was available, but anyone who does, hope it happens.

Oh.... corollary - I'm not really thrilled with the Augur for the same reason.

I think housing updates are going to be happening in the future, just there is other things that are coming before that, they have stated in the past (think I saw/heard something on eso live a few months/year back) that more housing features are being planned.

The community do raise very good suggestions and this one would be ace and to create a proper base for our characters, we will see :)

I like this idea. I have two pairs of characters who share houses and it would be nice if they could see each other there. I'd be fine with it being like a slightly more customisable version of pets - you place the character, pick an emote and then they stay there doing that emote. I could have my sorcerer sitting at his desk studying books and papers, or my crafter working on something in the 'workshop' or someone cooking....

(Ideally I'd prefer for characters, pets and mounts to be able to move around once placed, but I realise that's much more complicated and therefore unlikely to happen.)
